I don't think a custom equalizer is necessary at all..

I have Shure SE530 IEM's (that cost $300 dollars) and I can easily say that the sound quality of the Zune HD on it's "Normal" equalizer...

It's pretty.. but unusable since it is just so slow. Every action - clicking a profils, picture, switching tabs, etc - takes 5-10 seconds... sometimes more.. that adds up fast.
