Maybe this is something that only works on the J3 and not the S9, as I cannot get this to work. I read somewhere that Handbrake does not support h.264 baseline at all, so shouldn't work on these...

If you're up for recoding your videos then the best bet is definitely to look at the Sticky threads. Decent h264 encoding can be done very easily using RibBot 264, just check the guide in the sticky...

I've always found the easiest solution is to simply recode the video and hardcode the appropriate subtitles into it. I found it can be a real pain at times using .srt files or whatever.
