I have updated it to the latest firmware. Having formatted the device it booted up in about 6 seconds. I added about 100 songs just to see if it would adversely affect boot up times but it didn't...

the sennheisers you mentioned first should work with the p2, because it mentions in the article about "unplugging the transmitter with the player, which suggests they come with a plug in for the head...
