Thanks for the info. Regarding the Sansa View, I'm sure my embedded art is larger than 32kb. I painstakingly embedded hi-res art into my entire collection. There's no going back.

Based on my testing it appears that the Sansa View ignores all ID3 art if you transfer using MSC mode. It's a real shame. I don't think the e280 had this problem.
