How to tell the difference between real and fake Sennheiser CX300/500
 

I found a very interesting thread over at iAudiophile... might be useful for some of you.

This is just one example of faked CX300's - there are others around that look different.

I've read something similar on AVForums but not in as much detail and no pics.

You can also see a difference in the logo: the real one is a perfect rectangle, the "S" matching the angled lines - while the fake has a bigger "S" that protrudes the rectangle.

this kind of shit irritates the hell outta me!

Yeah, you can tell by the tiny plastic drivers compared to the huge copper drivers of the real ones. :)

Plastic drivers are more easy on the ears. :eek:

Plastic = lighter than metal, so it vibrates faster, thus providing audiophile-grade airy treble with a great soundstage.

Making up audiophile stuff is fun.

Yep, they are more easy on the head as well...............man if you ever get hit by one of those wooden drivers you really know about it:D

Warning to UK Ebayers.

I have just run a search for CX300 on the UK site and have seen pages of fake CX300.

Before you bid, make sure of the following.

1 Full EU retail box
2 Right angled chrome 3.5mm jack plug.

All the fakes that I can see have no box and a gold straight 3.5mm plug

I ordered them from www.newegg.com and they are original. Just order from sites/stores that are big not the small ones.

What does the full EU retail box look like?

They looks like the same pics from an eBay seller who was going on about fake and real ones. I wasn't aware that a lot of sellers there are selling fake Sennheiser CX300's as well. Although I shouldn't be suprised by the amount of other fake stuff I come across on eBay i.e fake Sony pro duo memory sticks

From the photos they look genuine. The pack is the standard EU retail pack and this looks genuine as well. All the fakes that I have seen have not been shipped in a retail pack and have a straight plug as opposed to a right angles plug.

It all depends on what they look like when they arrive.

The CX300 are all made in China

Do they 'pop' when you put them in your ears? I got mine from Amazon.uk(not the marketplace). It feels like an airtight fit...

Yes, they do pop if you get an airtight seal as you push them in. This is normal and is reported by a good proportion of users.
