Sensa Fuze+ or Fiio M3?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy either the SanDisk Sansa Fuze+ or the Fiio M3.

The SanDisk Fuze+ is an older model which I've seen New on Amazon UK for 34.99 , it can be Rockboxed and it can take a 128gb card.

The Fiio M3 is obviously newer but can only take a 64gb card, and cannot be Rockboxed. Cost 45.

Should go for the tried and tested Fuze+ or the newer M3?

Or has anybody got any other suggestions?

My budget is around 50.

The M3 doesn't rise to anything I'd ever recommend. The only thing it has going for it is that it's somewhat louder than most DAPs. That's only until you activate the equalizer. Then there's a volume cut to help prevent distortion.

The UI and screen are miserable IMO. You can use dozens of clicks to get your music going. Once you do it's likely to be in some order other than one you prefer. Files and folder are listed in the order they are added. Albums that have more than 10 files are listed 09, 11, 10. Takes a drive sorting utility and having files with double leading zeroes to deal with those issues.

The screen washes completely out in sunlight. You need to start your music indoors or find a shaded spot to makes changes to whats playing. A hand to shade the screen usually isn't enough as it takes very little side light to make the screen unusable.

There's more but I'd spend quite a bit of time listing all the reasons I recommend against one. Easier to say I have an M3 but it's been in a drawer for over a year now. I consider it an experiment in early adopting that failed.

Better battery life, a much better screen and a working Rockbox port makes the Fuze+ my recommendation. It may be older but it's very usable once Rockboxed.

I do have the Sansa Clip+ but it's physically too small. Great mp3 player but too small. Pity there's no option to put it on a lanyard.
