New Walkman Announced at IFA 2013

4 Attachment(s)
It looks like Sony announced 2 new walkmans at IFA 2013. The first one is the NWZ-F886 and the second one might be a successor to the Z series.
In the last picture you can see the two new walkmans but they didn't go into detail about the new walkmans. The one on the left looks like it could have a 4.7-5 inch screen with a aluminum frame. The one on the right is the successor to the F series and is slightly smaller with a 4 inch screen. The event was focused mostly on the Xperia Z1.

Here are the specs for the NWZ-F886
32GB media player with 10.2cm LCD touchscreen (4 inch)
・Hi-Resolution Audio playback
WAV(192KHz/24bit), AIFF(192KHz/24bit), FLAC(192KHz/24bit), Apple lossless(192KHz/24bit)
・S-Master HX digital amplifier
・DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine)
・ClearAudio+
・Digital Noise cancelling
・One-touch listening via NFC and Bluetooth® connectivity
・Up to 35 hours playback with MP3
・Up to 26 hours playback with Hi-Res audio (96kHz/24bit)
・Android PF Ver4.1
・Powered by Android: access apps at Google Play™
・Triluminos™ display for mobile

Interesting, very interesting. There needs to be a 64GB and 128GB for these (or a slot would do fine), going to wait for further information/confirmation. Awaiting input from fellow Sony users on their expectations.

I'm intrigued by the other Walkman as well!

Thank you for posting the news!

edit:

Priced at £249.00 the NWZ-F866 Seems like it's getting a 4" WQVGA(854 x 480 Pixels) Screen and sadly no card slot. Japan might get a 64GB as always. I doubt they'll make a 128GB though. One more thing, I don't have much idea about bluetooth versions, but it says it has A2DP, is that a good or bad thing? iirc that seems a bit outdated? Physical buttons on the side are thoughtful touches though.

Here's the other Walkman, no specs released though.

It might be called the Walkman "ZX", from a comment I just saw on Ascariss' blog.

Rumour : The "other" Walkman (pictured above) seems to be a prototype of a 35th anniversary Walkman, named NWZ-ZX1 (Prolly a successor to both Z and X series Walkmen). Possible release Feb 2014. Still not sure about specs but it does seem to be a high-end flagship F series.

Gotta love that gorgeous machined body and those external tactile controls :D

If it maxes @64gb and is released with an option to use an English menu I might pop for it.

Totally agree. If 64gb or more, it's mine

Apparently. I would say I would sell my J3 to fund this potential purchase but you've heard all that before.

I've grubbed so much from you I can't afford the J3,... ;)

64Gb or 128 is never going to be enough...

How about 1Tb or 5? Or just use the cloud.

Not sure if you're being facetious...
No, 64GB is enough. Anything less for me is kind of a headache though since I'll have to switch out things more often.

32-64 GB is plenty for my usage. And as most of us in the USA have said before, the data plans here are different. The cloud isn't a viable option.

Not to mention if the cloud ever goes down... so does your music.

I wouldn't advocate solely using the cloud.

I've got 12,000 of my own tracks both in the cloud and stored on my PC and an external hard-drive.

But I like the option of listening to those or any of Google's 18 million tracks (and downloading to my phone if I choose for offline use) at 320kbps MP3.

Bad news the F886 is only available in 32Gb in the UK Sony Shop (http://www.sony.co.uk/product/nws-f-...specifications) so I assume Europe/US will be the same.

Looks like Sony have shot themselves in the foot again, if the new Walkman is aimed at 24bit audio users then with albums taking up about 600Mb-1Gb plus of space you are not going to get much music on it, not to mention the space video and photos will take up.

At the very least they should start at 32Gb with a microSD slot, though 64Gb plus microSD would be more realistic. Until they do that I don't think I will be spending £259 on one.

Hopefully someone from Sony will read this (and probibally ignore it) as Sony never seem to canvas user opinions, then I think the small capacities will be here for a while

The DarkSide 09-24-2013 08:48 AM

No one from Sony reads this forum,...they really don't give a shit about what we want. Not when they've shifted towards cell phones. The Sony phones take micro SD cards up to 64gb. These players are just test vehicles for the phones. IMO,...YMMV.

MSG 09-25-2013 08:00 AM

I agree, but a company that ignores its customers is taking a risk with its future.

Sony manufacture 64Gb Walkmans for Japan, so I don't see the problem with them supplying these elsewhere, it's not as if they have to add language support (my x-series has Japanese in its language selection). Seems strange that you can't place a special order at a Sony store.

In the UK the PSP-3000 has expandable memory so the concept is not unknown to them.

If Sony advertise 24/192 file support then they should give a capacity that allows a decent number of albums to be stored. With 32Gb you would be lucky to get 20 24/192 albums on it, so what about space for videos/photos/apps etc. It's not a usable size.

Just to piss everyone off a bit more, Just noticed Sony Japan Debuts new ZX-Series Walkman (http://thewalkmanblog.blogspot.co.uk...-walkmans.html) 128Gb and new F-Series (http://thewalkmanblog.blogspot.co.uk...-f-series.html) in 16, 32 and 64GB versions.

128Gb would be the answer to all my storage dreams, but I don't think this will be coming to the UK.
