Are you going to use an outboard USB-DAC/USB audio interface, or are you going to plug them into the green output on your motherboard?

Green output on my motherboard.

Nothing that really stands out of the bunch.

Lots of 2.1 systems are decent, nothing I'd use for critical listening but nothing I'd complain about if I was on a budget.

Just get a set that looks sturdy, avoid anything on cheap looking stands. A 70€ set of logitech 2.1 speakers I bought in 2003 or so are still working fine and being used.

Gigaworks T20? They sound mighty fine for what they are. Behringer's MS16 also sound OK.

If you don't mind doing a bit of online research, you could get one of these cables and look up a decent stereo amp and decent pair of book self speakers on kijiji or any other used local sight. The extra bit of research looking up speaker reviews etc would result in considerably better sound quality at that price.

Get the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 system. Its the best value now, and has been for years. Unless you are using it strictly for games/movies, then the Logitech 2.1 system might be slightly better. But the Logitech is bloated for music and it sounds like poop.

I personally feel that 2.1 systems sound worse than similarly-priced 2.0 systems. That bass box (no, it's not a "subwoofer") can't be trimmed.

Then again, I've never heard the systems you suggested. So this is another YMMV moment.

I currently own a 2.1 Logitech Z4 and Love it, they are great sounding but I have not seen any for sale save for on ebay. I have heard the klipsch promedia set and they have lots of power but I feel they a re not as clear as logitech. I suppose what set you should get would depend on what you plan on using them for- if you want bass, you are more than likely going to need a 2.1 set up.

I've recently bought the Theater Solutions TS217 2.1 from Newegg for $35. At $35, I had nothing to lose. For the price, they are really good value. They can get very loud. They list the total RMS at around 300W. Although I don't believe it can reach anywhere near that claim, they are louder than most 2.1 systems I have heard although I haven't heard the Promedia. Soundwise, they are quite good especially for the price.
