Cowon i9+
edit: Looks like my thread got merged with Marvin's one (wherever he posted it?), so I've removed duplicate information. :)
--------------------------- [...] Looks like Cowon is missing the good old days - after the revival of the Cowon D2 now follows the revival of the Cowon i9. What are the particular differences? (i9 vs i9+) - Memory: up to 16gb vs up to 32gb - jetEffect: v3.0 vs v5.0 - Speaker: The i9+'s speaker is larger Please note that I didn't list the battery life because it isn't mentioned for both the i9 and i9+. My opinion? Instead of enlarging the speaker, Cowon should have added a (micro)SD slot. Also, I would like to know if Cowon has increased the battery life. Product page |
Rehashed it might be but I'd get one if the 32 GB isn't more than ~$150. Now that I've become accustomed to the UI of my 8 GB model I like it well enough that it's one of the very few DAPs I'd consider replacing with the same thing. Not having that much capacity in a reasonably priced model is what's taken Sony off my list of possibles.
It's easy to bang Cowon for not innovating but being realistic it's doubtful the market is there that would justify the expense of bringing something out that required much in the way of new hardware R&D and acquisition. Easier and less expensive to essentially recycle what's worked and change a feature or two. I'd guess there's also considerable savings not having to write new firmware from the ground up. |
I agree, bring the price down and the 32gb model is a prime candidate for purchase. The UI isn't bad, and the controls actually work quite well. I only wish the single click control to change tracks would work on it,...

Only way that I would consider this is if they added an expansion slot and that's not the case AFAIK. That said, I might be selling my i9 soon if someone in our household doesn't start using it, it never gets use anymore :/

What an original name.
Any guesses as to which player will be refreshed next? (J3+?) |

J3+ would be the bee's knees, even if all they did was give it 64GB internal memory. |

The question would be if there would be enough of a market to make it financially viable for Cowon to gear up to make another run of the J3. A few dozen or even hundreds wouldn't seem to be enough to justify the purchase of the needed screens and other parts. When I read what other small market DAP makers say of minimum orders, it seems you need to order tens of thousands of items like LED screens to get taken seriously by the parts makers. That would be a stack of money to lay out in a portable audio market that's being taken over by smart phones. A decent smartphone could possibly play audio every bit as well and have the advantage of appealing to a much wider customer base. |

And I'm hoping for a J3+ as well. I'd skip the D20 for it,... |

Wait a second, Apple products aren't exactly inexpensive. But we all get the point. Still, parade-raining notwithstanding, I WANT A J3+ DAMMIT. |
The i9+ is already available at Export Privé:
- 4gb: 88 USD / 69 EUR - 8gb: 110 USD / 85 EUR - 16gb: 141 USD / 109 EUR - 32gb: 186 USD / 144 EUR |
The pricing isn't that bad actually,...
