I'd like to find a cheaply priced set of sport headphones

Most of the headphones that do have such things are made specifically for ipods.

I agree with you up to around 99% that their focus is ipod. But some are designed to work with android as well, while others even come packed with 4 conductor TRRS converters allowing some features to be used on non-apple devices. That said if your device is not wired for TRRS, no remote will work from the HP jack ...

Edit: another thing to think about is how you wear sport IEMs. To eliminate most microphonics I wear mine over the ear and down my back along the inside of t-shirt. The in-line remotes I’ve seen would be impossible to use like this, thus you’d have to wear them upfront and suffer cable microphonics unless it was a wireless remote :/

Ok, before anyone makes any other comments, exactly what player are you planning on using the headphones with? As mentioned before, you now know an inline remote only works with some devices.

An in-line remote will not work on a Clip Zip.
