The Cowon J3 is discontinued
 

Cowon officials told the French blog Journaldugeek they now stopped producing the J3 2 years after its release.

The various webshops will probably sell the remaining stocks cut price so if you don't have one yet, it's time to make a good deal :)

No successor has been announced yet and I'm not even sure there will ever be any. Indeed it seems that like most other brands Cowon is willing to focuse on the Android-based products... *sigh*

Wow that’s sad news …

I'm surprised they don't listen to users and just release similar with larger onboard flash and update card slot for newer SDXC standard or even go with 2 card readers and minor onboard memory ...

Well, considering that the Z2 is still stuck at 32Gb, and that you have to give up AMOLED and the thin form-factor to reach 64Gb (Cowon A5), they definitely don't listen to users...
I'm not sure everyone will see Android as a major plus when everything else is just the same as 2 years ago...

and a j3 (with slightly better hardware) and larger storage would be awesome

Not surprised since the Android OS will eventually become the standard for portable media devices,not all but majority eventually at least. Though this is for good or bad,not everything should have Android,but alot of companies are jumping on the Android ship.

Bummer. :( I'm not particularly interested in an android based anything. Cowon's had some seriously clunky players before, and this was finally the one where everything kind of lined up for me.

I guess I gotta make a decision quickly then,...

I've been thinking the same thing but your dammed if you do and dammed if you don't, the price could soar or drop and become more reasonable ...

I still have an S9, wanted to upgrade to the Z2 but given its average battery life, I may get a cheap J3 instead.

Although, on the French site JDG, they said stores will be cutting its price soon. I guess I'll just have to wait.

I caught this a little late but it seems bad news. I wanted to get the J3 later this year to replace my JXD 990 PMP but seems I'd have to act fast. There's a CowonIndia website which sells the 4 GB version of the J3 for 215 USD.

I wonder how long they'd have it in stock. Hope they have it at least till next month since I'm low on cash at the moment for the J3.

I just ordered the 32 GB version for $239.00CDN.

4 GB J3 for 215 USD in India and 32 GB J3 for 239 CDN ... wow makes me wish I was in the U.S. or Canada!
