Samsung R0 Disassembly Guide
1 Attachment(s)
Hello guys,
For the need of the Rockbox port, I disassembled my R0. That's the occasion to provide a guide for those interested in disassembling their device or interested in watching the hardware inside hehe Click on a picture to view it in high resolution (5 megapixels) The R0 is quite easy to disassemble compared to other players. It's well built and the risk of breaking something is rather weak. http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020598bis.jpg All you need is a small screwdriver and a thin object. http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020597bis.jpg Remove the 2 screw covers with the thin object http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020595bis.jpg Remove the 2 screws and don't forget where you put them, they are very small and can be easily lost. http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020603bis.jpg Then you can remove the connectors cap http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020592bis.jpg That's my most beloved step! :D Indeed, usually on DAPs it's very hard to open the case as it's clipsed. Here you just have to slide up the screen! Magical! http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020591bis.jpg Remove the clipsed PCB cover with the thin object http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020600bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020601bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020602bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020580bis.jpg Here you are! :D http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020589bis.jpg Remove the only screw on the PCB http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020587bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020585bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020583bis.jpg That's the most dangerous step. Carefully lift the small black part with the thin object then remove the buttons and screen connectors. http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020562bis.jpg Use the thin object to remove the PCB. Be careful of the soldered battery! http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020564bis.jpg At first, I tried to remove only the battery but as you can see, there's a lot of glue so I thought that would not be a good idea finally :D It's better to remove the whole part: screen + battery together. http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020570bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020565bis.jpg The soldered 600mAh battery. Looks like a "no-name" one. Should be possible to replace it if you have some soldering knowledges but first you have to find a similar battery. Good luck... edit: dfkt just told me it's not a "no-name" battery at all but a amperex technology limited one http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020567bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020568bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020569bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020575bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020579bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020576bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020578bis.jpg http://media.generationmp3.com/lebel...1020577bis.jpg |
Nice guide lebellium :)
|
Thanks :)
Not sure it's really useful for many people but it's always nice to see the inside of a device! |
Thanks; now I know how to disassemble my R0 to remove an annoying dust particle that's between the display and the cover of my R0 (no clue how it came there)...

Pretty cool tutorial!!
I wanted to disassemble my Q3 as well, but can't see screws or screw covers anywhere^^;; |
I hesitated but finally did not dare to disassemble my Q3 either^^
Looks like the Q3 is not screwed but clipsed and that way there are more risks to break something while disassembling it. |

Nice tutorial. Very interesting. thx |
top notch info!
thx lebellium |
Hi all!
Somebody knows the model N. - or at least the dimensions - of the battery? Or even where to buy it? My one last for about 7hs and I'm a bit afraid about the Samsung assistance costs. thx, i |
If I remember well I did not find the exact model on the amperex technology limited website at the time.
Dimensions are about 43 x 43 x 04 mm. Generally you can only find replacement parts on http://www.samsungparts.com but for the R0 there is nothing. I guess the easiest solution is to buy a new R0 ;) |
thx lebellium!
after the buy of YPR0 I've promised myself to not buy any Samsung anymore :| - but I can still ask the service about the "repair" battery cost. I'll try do it by myself, but I don't know if 43 x 43 x 04 600mAh is easy to find.. ps interesting the decrease of battery life vs firmware rev you've reported on http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=64069 Do you know what cause it? |

Yes, I really luve Lorenzo's work... But I'm a heavy FM listener - still waiting for the official RBwFM release and then.. I've had bad issues (non depending on Lorenzo's FW) with my YP (shut-downs, sys checkings & re-checkings, charger disconnect not recognised) which has forced me to disable the auto RB start up a go back to the std player As you can see.. I'm still a kind of a unsatisf ssung consumer :( |
