Cant install Rockbox on new Clip+
Hello :)

I cant install Rockbox on my new Clip+. :(

Here is the reference :

The problem is the following : it dont detect rockboxed firmware when I unplug USB. I copy the files in the correct USB mode, I unplug... nothing happen, it refresh the library and it go to the original menu.

I have already one Clip+ (I bought it 2-3 days after the launch). Rockbox works well.

Thanks in advance for your help

most likely you missed to install the bootloader.

download the RockboxUtility (if you haven't already) and follow the instructions for installing the bootloader.

I tried the following things :
- the rockbox utility
- manual install (with cmd)
- automatic install (with rockboxed version from the forum)
- upgrade / downgrade original firmware

It never detect the modified firmware... with the original its okay, with the modified no!

I believe Sansa have changed their product. The one I received is a bit different from the previous : plastic is not polished and central pad is less smooth than my previous Clip+.

I really need help, if you have any ideas, you're welcome!

No, as far as I am aware, SanDisk has not changed the Clip+ design.

What you might want to do is, wipe everything out and start again from a perfectly clean Clip+. And then use RockboxUtility or be sure to follow the manual carefully, step-by-step.

You can also help by testing a mkamsboot build from SVN.

I only have a 'new design' Fuzev2, not a Clip+ so I can't test myself

All right.

How I build a mkamsboot? Would be nice if you could gimme sources or links :-)

Here's a link to the manual installation part of the clip + manual which has all the links you need.

funman 07-18-2010 02:44 PM

The manual links to the last release of mkamsboot which is not recent enough,

How to get the source is described on http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/UsingSVN

Once you have it it's as simple as:
cd rbutil/mkamsboot; make

If you need help with this you can come on rockbox irc channel

I get all sources from SVN.

I succeed to go to rockbox/rbutil/mkamsboot, but i dunno what to do after. Im connected to rockbox IRC chan, same nick.

Yakuza666, I've been able to make rockbox work on your clip+. It turned out that it needed both a change in the way SD cards are accessed (same as some fuze v2 players) and also a change to set the display brightness properly.

Our subversion archive now contains fixes for both of these issues. For the SD card fix a new bootloader is required, but I don't know yet when we will release new bootloaders again.

I'm having the same issue. If I get the latest build for clip+, the 1.02.09 OF, and the bootloader, I can create the patched firmware but when I load it onto my Clip+ and disconnect, I just get the "refreshing media" screen - no firmware install.

Bertrik - are you saying there is a new bootloader that has not yet been released that I need to use to patch it?

funman 07-30-2010 07:25 AM

It was released yesterday,

Download the bootloader and mkamsboot again and it should work

Or simply download the patched firmware here
