Best Samsung DAP ever
In your opinion, what is the best Samsung DAP ever and why?
I made a preselection with 16 models from 2005 (previous ones were objectively bad) and I did not put some models like the S2, S3, Q1 and CP3 that cannot be considered as the best Samsung ever^^ For me it could be the R0, the P2 or the YH-J70 but finally I chose the YH-J70 because it was a Cowon X5 Killer with better design. Good sound quality and big HDD 20 or 30Gb! I still love it :p |
The T10 because it was small, aluminium, supported A2DP and sounded great - animated dogs notwithstanding.
|
M1 , because the technology is up to date
|
But the firmware is not up to date
So the M1 cannot be the best Samsung ever :D The T10 has a bad touch pad And I don't understand how somebody could have voted for the R1, there are too many cons. Hey guys, the question is not "what Samsung DAP do you own?", the question is "what is the best Samsung DAP ever?" !!!lol |
lebellium, do you have any insider information for the next Samsung flagship player??
i mean Cowon already released J3, Iriver already released K1, so when is samsung?? |
M1?
Ah no, already released  I'm not allowed to tell you more but for the moment I only have bad news about the future of Samsung DAP ;) But the M1 could compete with the J3 and the K1 if the firmware was better. Hardware is it good enough, I don't understand why you would like a new flagship player?! The M1 is only released in some countries and is still overpriced! Sales figures are bad. That would be crazy to release a M2. |

In the Q2 category but with tactile buttons there is the R0 that could be the best Samsung ever if there were not so many buggy firmwares! |
I've only owned a Q2 and my P3, and both sound amazing. I love my P3, but I can't say what's "best" either.

great survey by gmp3, but where is Iriver??? i think it is korean company too? |
iRiver is dead in France ;)
They still sell the P7 and the E100 or E150 but it's as if they were not here. A bit like Creative in fact. If you see the gmp3 stats, this phenomenon is clear: GMP3 forum evolution (posts number evolution between April 2005 and November 2009) Archos: 7 529 > 17016 = +126% Apple: 7 247 > 18313 = +153% Creative: 13 788 > 28255 = +105% Cowon: 6 393 > 34086 = +433% iRiver: 20 951 > 28219 = +35% Philips: 2 096 > 3435 = +64% Samsung: 338 > 21273 = +6194% Sony: 3 528 > 18037 = +411% I only put the 2 brands that are still successful in France (or at least on gmp3) And I put a poll here too to see the difference in Samsung votes :) |
Either the K3 or the P3. K3 for it's near perfect sound quality, P3 for it's near perfect sound quality, file compatability, build quality, and almost everything else.
|
what is the difference between S5 and K5?? they look similar
|
The S5 is more recent, thiner, has bluetooth, a line-in, supports AAC and FLAC (first Samsung DAP to support FLAC).
|
i just register at gmp for voting , a member who doesnt understand the language but still want register :D
it`s out of my expectation that Cowon X5 can surpass D2/D2+ actually what happen? |
That J70 looks interesting. Was it available around the time of the H300 or X5? They just don't build 'em anymore like they used to...

If the X5 had not exist, no doubt that Cowon wouldn't have such a good reputation today. So not surprising for me ;) Quote:
They have almost the same spec: 1,8" color display, UMS, basic photo and video features, USB-Host, etc. Some differences though: -The X5 has a metal case whereas it is (good) plastic on the J70 -The X5 supports FLAC whereas the J70 supports WAV -The J70 does not need a subpack for USB-Host -The J70 was available in 20 or 30Gb (dock with line-out and silicon case included in the 30Gb packaging) whereas the X5 was also available in 60Gb version -The J70 has a HDD protection system that turn off the HDD when a fall is detected. -The J70 has SRS WOW HD sound effects whereas the X5 has BBE effects. Well Samsung was not famous for its DAP at the time, there was no advertising, so the J70 is pretty unknown compared to the X5 but that's a great pity. It's still a fabulous player with a very good sound quality, the 3.5mm output is totally clean. Now the battery is almost dead so I can't use it everyday as I was used to. It's also the last HDD DAP made by Samsung so as a result, it remained the Samsung DAP with the biggest capacity until they released the P3 32Go 4 years later... |
I got to represent for P2. It was the first higher end player I've ever bought. :)
|
I primarly use a P3 nowdays because of it's capacity (32GB) but my personal favorite is the T9JBCB. Great sound and it started the Bluetooth enabled player trend for Samsung. I had to get my T9B from Germany because Samsung lacked the vision to bring the 8GB Bluetooth version to the states. No dead touch screens (has real buttons) and survived my journeys around the corner and around the world. Unlike the P2 & T10, you can have your BT and DNSe at the same time (similar to the P3). It's not advisible but you can even stream the FM radio over BT and use the usb cable as the FM antenna. The video capabilities were not even close to what the P3 offers but video is secondary to me. Long live the T9!
It's hard to say what my number 2 would be. The P2 had headphone jack issues (I never personally experience it) but was otherwise a reliable device. The P3 marked the return of DNSe over BT and added greater video codec support. The touch screens seem to be junk (mine seems fine thus far). As said before, the T10 had both touch button and power switch issues but a very compact size. The Z5 lacked video and a FM radio in the states but otherwise a nice player. Another Samsung flip off to the USA. Mine still works as does all my old Samsung players. Since my P3 hasn't failed yet, I'd have to go with it but if it had/does fail, that would no longer be the case. |
