Firmware 1.17 for R0 (UCI support)

My Italian friends from hwupgrade.it have been faster than me this time :D

New firmware 1.17 (faster download link coming)

Official improvements:
- UCI support
- Pay-fonts support
- Fix DNSe noise
- System Stabilization

According to first feedbacks, the bugs of the 1.14 version have been fixed!

And UCIs come soon!

I'm pleased they listened to my bugs reports in Korea! :)

Original Download Link (slower)

edit: I'm fed up with the R&D...
They are still some bugs not fixed:
-When playing the last file (whatever the format: mp3, flac, acc, ogg) of a folder/album, the R0 crashes at the end of the file with display OFF only (if the display is on, it comes back to the music list menu and then auto-turn off 5 minutes later) and when you turn it on again, you get "system checking".
-FLAC playback issues with some files

So, instead of upgrading to 1.10, it's safe to say that I can upgrade directly to 1.17 without any issues?

Or should I still stay on 1.10?

Does it only crash when you're playing songs in albums/artists/playlists? Because I just keep it on shuffle in the "songs" folder.

lebellium 03-27-2010 06:16 AM

Normaly there are no problem of library update anymore so it should be safe to upgrade to 1.17 from the 1.10!

I don't know how the shuffle mode works exactly.
The R0 only crashes at the end of the last song of a folder so it depends on what the R0 does once it played random all songs in your folder? Does it stop or play a song again?
Anyway, if you have hundred or thousand of songs, there is little chance you listen to all of them in one go.

Try the fw 1.17 and if you're not satisfied, you still can downgrade to 1.10 ;)

Alright, sounds good

I'm still waiting for it to come lol, shipping takes about 7-20 days, and it's only been two days

@Lebellium I don't know what you mean by pay-fonts but every improvement is welcome :).
@Kaoss 1.10 has issues with the radio presets; 1.13 has this bug fixed and AFAIK no important bugs

You can download new fonts on the Samsung website but that's not free. You have to pay for.

Are you sure you followed discussions?
The 1.13/1.14 fw is the worst Samsung firmware ever.

:D Well 1.13 works fine for me. I thought it was 1.14 the one that was full of horrible bugs. Anyway, it seems they don't test new firmwares very well

lebellium 03-28-2010 04:17 PM

The 1.13 and 1.14 are the same, same bugs reported by many users.
Those firmwares might brick your player and then you'll have to send them back to the after sales service.
So I recommend you to downgrade to 1.10 or upgrade to 1.17.
There is a potential danger.

edit:
The 2 bugs have been found by the R&D and will be fixed in the next firmware!! :)

Thanks. I didn't know that. So far I been lucky but I'm gonna change version anyway.

Hello. I'm new in this forum, but I've followed your discussions for a while.
So, I have the little R0, starting from the 1.10 firmware, updated to the 1.14 and now to the 1.17. Many bugs were fixed, but I have discovered a very unpleasing defect: a sort of automatic "reverse stereo" effect... It only happens to the mp3 and only on the ones on the additional microsd: after some seconds of normal playing, the right and left channels are inverted... I'm pretty sure of that, because after some test to define the strange listening effect, I tried with an mp3 of a violin sonata where the violin is on the left channel and the piano on the right. After some second the image is inverted with the piano in the left and the violin on the right. Inverting the headphone will show the correct stereo image.
I'm very bored of this bug and all of its brothers... Why Samsung putted on the market a very beautiful mp3/mp4 player with so much bugs? They can't pretend this kind of hunt for the right firmware.
Thank you.

Could you send me a good mp3 sample where we can hear this bug please ;)
(I need it if you want this bug to be fixed)

Thank you, lebellium. Unfortunately it happens with any of the mp3 played from the microsd... The same file copied into the fixed memory plays well.
I can send you the file with the violin and the piano, just because with only two instruments the bug is very clear to listen.
Just for completeness, I've tried another identical player, I've tried another microsd card, I've tried older versions of firmware (even the 1.06), and it's always the same. The files play fine on the fixed memory and in reverse stereo after a while if stored on the card. And only with mp3s.
Funny but sad...

lebellium 04-01-2010 04:38 PM

I confirm the bug! Has never been reported because nobody noticed it I guess. But with your mp3 sample, that's clear!

I'll report it to the R&D ;)

cianciafrullo 04-01-2010 04:44 PM

Thank you lebellium. It is a very creative bug, isn't it?
Bye

lebellium 04-01-2010 04:57 PM

I do not even understand how it is possible to make such a bug

I guess the R0 is the most bugged Samsung DAP ever! And that's a pity because it's also one of the best ever if you don't take the bugs into account! :(

Very hard to do... :(
Certainly the reverse stereo effect wins the award for the most wonderful and incomprehensible bug ever founded.
Waiting for Samsung to release again a new firmware (will be the ultimate one?).
Bye and thank you again.

lebellium 04-02-2010 05:16 AM

It's maybe too late for this bug to be fixed in the next firmware because I already reported the other bugs some days ago and they are probably testing the new firmware before the public release. You should have reported it before ;)
But that's just what I think. We'll see ;) So probably that won't be the last firmware because of your bug^^

cianciafrullo 04-02-2010 07:19 AM

The world will thank me for that. :D

The same world that has never noticed this bug since the release of the R0 in september 2009? Well I doubt it. Looks like this world doesn't care on the stereo and microSD card :D

cianciafrullo 04-02-2010 09:33 AM

I'm one of the little minority that really listen what they hear. And it is supposed that a music player is made to listen to the music... Or not? Actually, I listen almost to classical music (including opera), and generally I pay attention to the music in my ears... So, I'm fighting for minority rights. ;)
