Free (and legal) MP3s
I just wanted to point out to everyone a great place for high quality music that is completely free for personal use:

Jamendo - A large collection of CC licensed songs

If you know of others, post them here.

The music on this site might not be everyone's cup of tea, but like Jamendo, it is completely free and legal.

Mininova.org is now 100% legal content distribution only. Anything on there is freely licensed

I used a song from Jamendo as a soundtrack for a video I made for a contest because it needed to have an open license. I sampled a lot of music and some was interesting, even though it was not what I wanted for my video.

Here is a shameless plug for my video:D

100% free and legal. Mostly indie/alternative. Likely stuff you've never heard of, but I've discovered some pretty cool bands here.

Plus the artists get paid for every download out of the site's ad revenue.

Trent Reznor still has his Nine Inch Nails album available free for download.

Allmusic rates it 4 Stars

From the NIN website: "
we encourage you to
remix it
share it with your friends,
post it on your blog,
play it on your podcast,
give it to strangers,

2008 NIN"

Go to the following URL for a download token:

Practically every format is available. MP3 VBR0 is available in a zipped direct download. Lossless formats are available via torrent. Practically every format is there for the taking.

FLAC in Redbook CD or Hi-Rez 24bit/96kHz.
Lossless m4a for your iPod friends.
Uncompressed Wave files for the transcode to anything else.

Reminder the lossless files are bittorrent downloaded. So have some courtesy and seed the files at least to a 1.000 ratio.

I'll come clean up front: I'm straight up stealing most of these links from another forum (mp3s are legal though!). So don't thank me too hard. Actual quality of musical talent is unsubstantiated unless noted and may vary.

- dunno, looks like indie rock, maybe?

http://freemetalalbums.wordpress.com...owse-by-genre/ - literally thousands of metal albums \m/

http://defianceohio.terrorware.com/audio/ - Okay, I can vouch for this one. A great folk-punk band that has their whole discography up for download.

http://indytorrents.org/index.html?f...usic+and+audio - Found this one from the last site. It's hooked up with Indymedia, which is sort of a anarchist news... uhh... thing. Anyway, you could also get Defiance, Ohio's stuff there, and there are a few other bands there as well. Quality of other bands unknown. And I know torrent stuff looks suspicious, but trust me, it's legit.

- this seems to be another free record label, with stuff from the Netherlands? Dunno.

http://www.xlr8r.com/mp3 - uhh... dance, techno, and... grime? Is that a genre? Word of warning: this site felt like it was gonna crash Firefox, but keep in mind I'm on a laptop with 512 megs of RAM and the worst on-board graphics card ever made. There's a lot of built-in song players and big photos, or something. But lots of downloads as well.

http://rcrdlbl.com/ - "The hottest free music downloads. Served daily." That is a quote.

That one was a mouthful, it goes to a amazon.com page - Sorry, lots of numbers at the end of that link. But there's like 127 free albums (many of them samplers) for free at Amazon.

I think that's all I got, for now.
