The TrekStor Vibez Details

Since there's virtually no information about the TrekStor Vibez here, I decided to create a new topic just for the awesome DAP ;) But now my experiences with this player:

When I first held it in my hands I was surprised how small it actually was. It looks much bigger on the pictures in the net, maybe bc of the huge control wheel. It lies perfectly in my hands, I can use it single handed (except for locking the controls which requires to hold the center of the wheel and pressing the Power-Button). The player looks quite solid and well built. The navigation is quite easy and feels "natural". I had no problems to operate it at all. Despite the menu animations are a bit laggy, I still like the menu.. you don't have to wait for the animations to finish ;)

Pretty sweet is the album art feature, it even recognizes the "folder.jpg" (from WinDOS XP). You can also set a fixed wallpaper.

The Vibez supports playlists (m3u) and folder navigation. It also has it's own database. Adding files is quite fast, after putting them on the device, the database is automatically updated.

The coolest thing about the Vibez is the support of gapless playback. It works perfect with my Ogg Vorbis files (I didn't check FLAC and mp3, I'll do that if there's any interest). The sound quality is pretty decent (at least for me) - I tested it with my Sennheiser HD 590 headphones and my Sennheiser CX 300 earbuds.

I can't say very much about the battery life, the player just arrived. I'll write a follow up next week ;)

If there're any questions, feel free to ask. I'll do my best to answer them ;)

This sounds like a good player. Is it flash based or hd based? Hope you enjoy it! :)

Can you confirm for sure that it is UMS (USB Mass Storage) - no MTP necessary to transfer music files?

This is from the German site:

So yes, it's definitely UMS/MSC - but you can switch it to MTP.

Yes. I tried it with WinDOS XP SP2 (no WMP installed) and Linux

pity it doesnt come with flash memory instead of hdd.. i'd buy it. hate hdd players :p

bRokEnCHaRacTer 12-14-2006 12:10 PM

Well, so far I had no problems with the fact that it's a HDD based player. I am mostly using it in the train or while walking to the university.

dfkt 12-14-2006 12:13 PM

Mmmmh... 12GB flash... :)

bRokEnCHaRacTer 12-14-2006 12:29 PM

Yeah.. and there're already 16GB flash drives .. why doesn't anybody use them? :(

dfkt 12-14-2006 12:37 PM

Cause it's probably $500-1000, still?

We might see a drop in price, due to the announcement of semi-solid state drives for laptops, cause of Vista's crazy system/hardware requirements... hopefully! :)

bRokEnCHaRacTer 12-14-2006 12:38 PM

:D So Vista has a good point..

Does VIbez have any serious disadvantages? I'm wondering if I should get one.

bRokEnCHaRacTer 02-11-2007 05:16 AM

Hm, there're is one thing which annoys me a bit: The precedure to (un)lock the player (center of wheel + power button)... but after some time one gets used to this. I still think that I made the right decission with the Vibez :)

Gio2k 03-23-2007 12:15 PM

I am not an apple fan. I am looking at alternatives to the ipod.
The vibez looks good so far, except for the very nagging fact that it's price in Europe is around 220 Euro for the 12 GB model. In comparison, the 30 (thirty) GB Ipod is priced at 250 Euro.
So yeah,
30GB ipod for 250 Euro or 12GB Vibez for 220 Euro,
that is teh question :(

dfkt 03-23-2007 12:19 PM

Depends solely on what features you want... if you want all, get the Vibez, if you want none, get the iPod. ;)

(The opposite is true for accessories.)

I just got my Vibez this week and I am very happy with it. I've been listening to MP3s on a media player since 2001 and I have finally suceeded in the holy grail of DAP players...I played Dark Side of the Moon flawlessly on mp3s. I have since played various live albums flawlessly as well. I had a bit of trouble with two albums where there was a very slight gap, but that was do to how the mp3s were encoded and not a problem with the Vibez.

I'm still figuring out all the bells and whistles, but I will say the EQ is fantastic and my music has never sounded so good. Hopefully this community grows as the Vibez grows in popularity in North America.
