Adobe Flash on the Zii.
That's right. It looks like Creative and Adobe are partnering up to make sure the Zii supports FLASH. Press Release.

Flash is a big deal for the consumer. Everyone wants their youtube and flash games.... Also, I haven't had one hand held device pull it off right. Even netbooks have trouble with youtube HD.
|
yay! flash ads crippling both the battery life and browsing experience!
joking aside, i think this is great news, because there are plenty of nice flash webapps besides games and youtube. |
The processor in the Z has plenty of power. It should be able to handle just about anything a web page could throw at it. No clues yet what sort of battery life it'll eventually end up with, but it's got a huge battery compared to, say, the Zune HD.

Flash doesn't even work that well on my Wolfdale E8400 with 4GB DDR2 (yeah, it's a bit of an exaggeration), it's just one of the most inefficient high-level languages ever contrived, next to Java. I wish something less crappy than Flash would have made it to be the defining eyecandy of the Internets as we know them. Even Silverlight seems better suited for many things.
