How to view CHINESE fonts on your e200
1 Attachment(s)

Took me forever to figure out how to properly view my Chinese fonts in my e200 so I thought I would make a tutorial for others.

How to view Chinese in Sansa OF.

You need to change the firmware to the Asian version. Then you can choose the language to Trad/ Simp Chinese or Japanese. In this way you can see Chinese w/ Sansa original firmware.

There is a perfect tutorial here. I will just link to it b/c I cannot add any more info to it.

About Language Support:
Only following languages are supported: English, French, Spanish, Swedish, Portugal, Danish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Japanese

After you install the Asian OF, install rockbox.

Don't use the automatic installation program. I recommend installing cpchan's rockbox (extract the file to the root) and use rockboxutility to install the sansa boot loader.

Then you can still view Chinese in OF and in rockbox.

How to view Chinese in Rockbox!

This is really simple. Depending on your build, you just need to change the font to "Unifont"

"settings" -> "theme settings" -> "browse fonts" -> "unifont"

This is a great general font, but it is also really large. It wouldn't look right with most themes.

Luckily there are other fonts to use. These fonts are much smaller and will look better in themes. Just try your luck and enjoy! BIG THANKS to the person who made the fonts, I appreciate it!

I think these are general fonts and can possibly work w/ other languages.

Thanks very much for the smaller fonts! They will come in very useful, as I have to always use a large-font supporting theme for Unifont.

Just out of curiosity, does the Database work for you when you have any of the Asian-font supported fonts loaded? For me, the Database never works, but if I switch back to a normal font, bingo it does...

I think the database errors are with the Sazanami-Mincho fonts.

I'm currently using the "silver" theme. And I tried it with the nimbus 14 +uming and the firefly fonts. The database loads fine with those.

I also use cabbie v2 with unicode and the database works fine with that as well.

You should try those fonts and see if it works. Good luck!
