Creative Zen Vision M Firmware Cracked
hey just want to let you know that someone found out how to hack it.
http://www.epizenter.net/e107_plugin....php?69697.480 Comic Sans MS font is used rockbox should be on it around a couple of months. all thanks to zook and mcuelenaere great work. |
ive beeing waiting for this like ages they have done great job
keep it up rockbox |
:D this makes me happy. I can't wait for them to come out with a new firmware, and I know that is still a ways away, but it is not a big step forward.

I'm actually really surprised that no one has really displayed any excitement over this topic.
They (RockBox) have managed to put non-Creative firmware on the ZVM. When I say non-Creative, I mean that they have changed the font in the Creative firmware and then put that firmware onto the ZVM. The trick has been to get the ZVM to accept the firmware. This is what the people on RockBox have recently sorted out, the finally figured out what creative does with the nk.bin to make it uploadable. The thread that mitch linked to in post #1 has a few different firmwares with different fonts (Comic Sans MS is one of them). Someone also put on a different font that supported song titles in Hebrew if I'm not mistaken. ps. Could a mod make the title of this thread a little more descriptive? Maybe: Firmware Cracked? |
I don't quite get how to put it on my MP3. maybe because i am running XP?
|
im running XP and it installed fine, make sure to install the microsoft MTP thingy. and follow the instructions (After page 32)
im running Comic Sans MS and it looks fabulous. i tried the trashco font which looks cool but its majorly slow, the disney font is also nice. (he uploaded an Ariel version) i think its pretty awesome! |
I've only downloaded everything to install the new firmware, just haven't had time to actually do the transfer.
|
Will this allow us to load on more files than the firmware limit now that custom firmware is available?
|
well even with rockbox ,you cant kill hardware limitations
putting on more songs than the cpu/ram can handle wil make your player slow but who knows how much the hardware can handle? |
The problem isn't necessarily hardware, assuming the player is using 32-bit addressing for the hard drive. Such a limitation would be the database or filesystem. It stands to reason that if the player's firmware has been cracked to this point, then developing and deploying a more robust filesystem is certainly doable.

If you go here:http://www.epizenter.net/e107_plugin....php?69697.630
There is a post by bobbaluba about 2/3 the way down, which has 2 files you can download. These two files will allow you to drag n drop any ttf font you wish (as long as it is not too complicated) and then update your firmware with it. Truly amazing work by the folks!! |
Yeah, I've been messing around a bunch tonight I've changed my font a couple times think I'm going to go with a Arial type font. I *think* I might set up some simple web page and store a bunch of different firmwares with different fonts.
Depending on the need/quantity of this I'll do it. If it is really easy for people to change the font then I won't it'll save a lot more time for people if all they have to do is download the TTF file update the font then transfer it over.. ~4 steps. |
So I've been messing around with fonts a bunch tonight - some more. Got 5 of my own fonts working, 3 are good, 1 doesn't look to good and is small and the other one is a tiny bit slower. Let me know if you want me to throw some online?
|
putting some online would be very nice!
i dont really know how to change fonts etc:D |
|
Does it restore everything to it's default settings or does it just load up with that font?
|
the original firmware is included with the link if you want to restore install it on your zvm. all the rest are tools to change the font

and how do you actually transfer it, Drag and drop??? |

When I put the new font on my Zen, will my settings remain intact? |

I'm going to throw something together and put it online, give me a few minutes. |
