For me, $120usd is a considerable amount of money, but a lot of people think these rival earphones at much higher price points... Make no mistake, these are pretty serious earphones. Blew my SuperFi 3s well out of the water... and yeah, I'd probably skip the amp. Some like the Fiio E5 / Phonak combo (grab an E5 on dealX or Focalprice for like $24 or something) but personally I didn't notice a huge improvement. You could always get adventurous with a soldering iron and put together a Cmoy amp! The P3s amp is more then enough to power these puppies, you can just get some subtle improvements with an external amp.

Heya, I can certainly vouch for the quality of the PFEs, they do sound great. Sound is quite balanced with slightly peaky treble. They are also very comfy IMO. They are worn looped over ear, I must admit I prefer straight in ears. They don't spit out a lot of bass but they sound great with the P3s (or any Samsung DSNe 3.0) bass boost, and the bass goes deep and is well defined... you just have to 'boost' it. Many say they benefit from an external amp, I admit the detail and soundstage do improve (even with my humble DIY cmoy amp) but the whole amp thing is a bit overblown - they sound great plugged straight into a P3 etc. TBH I can't really fault them, but YMMV of course. Some have said the sound can be a bit 'thin'- its definitely not a 'huge' sound, more of a delicate sound...
Funnily enough I was looking some up for a friend and found them at soundearphones.com for $120USD with cheap int'l shipping. I paid a fair bit more & they seemed good value even then.

I'll agree w/that. The P3 is a fantastic player. If I had gotten 1 (in 32gb) I'd never have bought the S9 or Q2. The SQ is excellent.

Try a Sony player (not the X1000 series of course) & I can guarantee you'll love it. The SQ, plus the tactile controls, and the library navigation & battery life: sheer joy. I really NEVER should have sold my S639!!!!

Buddy, the SQ on the Q2 is fantastic. The controls and library navigation are HORRIBLE. Those things I've always said as a fact. It's just so hard to get threw my music catalog on the player at times. Couple this w/the fact that if your a mm off on the touch pad you bring up another function or change a song. I like to use it while drifting off to sleep & it's a pita if I do a boo-boo. Really, I wish I still had the S639. If you ever get to try 1, you'll know why I cry for it.
