The entire PT library?! INCONCEIVABLE!! I only have three albums and I love them all. In Absentia blows me away in a different way every time I listen to it. I made the mistake of listening to it last night while doing research on Grado RS1s. BIG mistake.

Totally OT - I can't figure out why my profile pic is jacked.

Mediaogre: What can I say? I gotta have stuff sometimes...lol! And to be honest, my collection has alot of Top 40 stuff too...for me, the thing is the melody and the musicianship. Always been that way - but I can definitely show love for talented pop artists as well. :-)

Profile pic: Maybe too big? I think 80x80 or 20k whichever is biggest is the only option?

Folks, keep posting your recommendations! This is definitely one of the most active social groups on ABi!

Initial reaction to In Absentia - amazing. I am kicking myself for not jumping into Porcupine Tree much much earlier....

I can't believe I didn't think to mention them before. They're definitely marketed as progressive, but don't necessarily fit perfectly into the mold - which is fine by me.

Coheed and Cambria. Some of their stuff has an obivious Rush vibe going on due in part to the singer's fantastic vocals. They alos pay homage to some of the hard rock/metal bands of the 80's - but in a good way. Very smart and well used guitar chops. The bass player and drummer keep things crazy tight. I highly recommend Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 2- No World for Tomorrow. Entire album is just sick. And it's an interesting arrangement. The first half (side A - remember those?) is almost traditional rock with the second half blending into concept.

Dammit Mediaogre! Because of you, Danneq and everyone else here in this group, I now have to go and look for ANOTHER external HDD... LOL

Speaking of Rush, they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. The upcoming Rush documentary won the audience award at Tribeca!

Get the "Apollo Burning" Vol 1 and 2. Two hours of high quality grooving. You'll definitely hear the Lee and Lifeson salutes! And man, do they take their guitar tone seriously.

Go Rush! My wife and I have been going to Rush concerts since 1990 (well past their heyday). Snakes and Arrows rocked. I was astounded at how much power and presence the all still have.
