Speedo makes swim suits. iriver makes MP3 players. Together they apparently make waterproof MP3 players. The Speedo Aquabeat is a Speedo branded iriver made MP3 player with 1GB of memory, up to 9 hours of battery life and a weight of only 35 grams.

What's so special about it is that both player and earphones are waterproof down to 3 meters and on top of that they float. The idea has been done before but frankly this is the best attempt at it so far. With the summer just starting this might be the thing to keep you company underwater, but the price tag of a whopping $145 might make you think twice. Out now from stores that carry Speedo.

Since its appeal certainly does not lie in its appearance, storage capacity, or battery life, this PMP from Chinavasion probably won’t be your first choice for typical use, but if you require a digital video player which won’t disapprove to being completely submerged, it’s the most appropriate choice.

The first waterproof PMP has a 1.8-inch, 128 x 128 pixel color screen, and can store 1GB of video converted from MPEG and WMV, MP3, WMA, WAV, and JPEG. An included arm band, neck strap, and watertight earphones will make the player easier to use when in the water. While you won’t have to look too far to find another player which can exceed three hours of video and six hours of audio playback, watching a video up to 9 feet underwater is a rare quality.

If the goggles didn’t make you look ridiculous enough, you can strap on this MP3 player to the side of your head. The small canister-shaped waterproof MP3 player is designed specifically for swimmers. Dubbed, the Dolphin, the player comes in 1GB and 2GB sizes. The press release states the 2GB version to be selling for 19,800 Yen or around $160 USD starting in July. The Dolphin comes with a few different water tight earplugs and various lengths of cable to be used along with the armband, for the less ridiculous look.

I wouldn’t expect this to come to the stats so you will have to look to your favorite Japanese importer to get a hold of one. You could swim to Japan and get one yourself but you would only have tunes for the voyage back.

Designed with the budget-conscious consumer in mind, the Hydra is a UMS device whose only bell and whistle is the inclusion of an LCD screen. The player supports MP3, WAV, WMA, and (oddly enough) ACT files and used to be available in both 1GB ($40) and 2GB ($70) varieties from the company's website. It's not listed on the site anymore for some reason, and no one else seems to sell it either.

But if you do manage to get one, please don't take the title of this post literally!

Powered by a 9-volt battery, the hard-shell case features a rubber gasket seal that allows your player to float unharmed while connected to a built-in speaker via the headphone jack.

If you're in need of a diving buddy, however, you'd better look elsewhere. The iFloat can withstand just about any weather condition, but it isn't designed for extended aquatic use and it can't be submerged (hence its name).
