Zune HD Originals are Arriving

zune-original-main.jpg

FedEx is starting to drop off the long awaited (read: delayed) customized Zune Originals direct from Microsoft's factories in China. Those who ordered a Zune Original as an express order got a little treat for their patience in putting up with the delay- $15 credit to be spent in the Zune Marketplace.

Below are a few photos of what is inside the box (you're welcome for not boring you with an 8 min video of watching me take stuff out of a box, unboxing videos are the gadget world's equivalent to Ambien). There is not much different from the regular store bought version other than a different design on the box and of course the custom color and etched back design. I chose not to get a design and just wanted a blue 32GB Zune. The blue and I imagine the other colors to be of the same tone colors, is an understated modern pastel. It is an attractive and not obnoxious color tone fitting in well with the entire Zune design scheme.

OMG!!! The only reason I hadn't bought one from amazon.com was the fact that I wanted a green Zune HD... and I'm really glad someone finally got some pictures of the how it looks, in the orginals colors. Thanks for the awesome post!!!!!

jjrosaria on September 29, 2009 6:26 PM

Wow nice set of pics Enzo

PS: that Hello from Seatle made me laugh.. Can't believe they still haven't taken that off

MarvintheMartian on September 29, 2009 7:22 PM

That is a nice , understated color....a beautiful looking device. If only it had DNSe 3.0, or Clear Bass and a custom EQ....

SansaRulez83 on September 29, 2009 7:31 PM

^ er...how bout BBE+, the best sound enhancements on the market? (eh...ok, I suppose that's subjective but still arguably the best SQ enhancements on the market)

I too thought the "Hello from Seattle" thing was awesome. Especially since this product was made in China.

I like the fact that you can have it your way! How very Burger King of you Microsoft!

JC_Agga on September 29, 2009 8:13 PM

The only i bought Samsung p3 over Zune HD just a week ago, was because Zune HD sounded like iPod touch(according to Cnet, and my bro had ipod touch and sound was not bad, but i prefer the DNSE 3.0). So there ya go. Zune lost a customer/Money b/c of those small things. Plus no bluetooth for over 200 bucks device?

MarvintheMartian on September 29, 2009 10:15 PM

@SansaRulez83....I haven't had the chance to try out the BBE+ yet...maybe next year. ;o)

this box is a huugee disappoint to me compare to the big complete white Originals box I got from gen2 with this smallbox inside and wrapped with nice bag, poster, welcome card, ... (oh wait, how can they send you a completely blank poster ?!?)

No premium IEM either ^^"

@JC_Agga: do you read those comments under CNET review, all of them think they're bias, and I think so too after reading some line.

Robert on September 30, 2009 1:52 AM

@JC_Agga: Really only listened to one tech review?? Almost EVERY other review said that it sounded better than an iPod. This is a problem that I've been trying to fix when people trust reviewers who are biased, but still, you really listened to one single review? Poor choice, your loss.

Bluecold on September 30, 2009 4:19 AM

...and a Cnet review at that.
Damn. There are a gazillion ZuneHD reviews out there, and yet you only read the one from the guys with the worst review track record.

LunarFlame17 on September 30, 2009 12:28 PM

Part of me is disappointed that the packaging is so lackluster compared to the old Zune Originals packaging, and part of me is glad the new packaging isn't so ridiculously over the top. Either way I bought my Zune HD at Best Buy so it doesn't really matter. That blue is a very nice color but I definitely prefer the platinum.

I hope microsoft decides to say hello to us here in New Zealand as well since these devices are really awesome, I mean its really unfriendly of microsoft not even letting me look at their website about the zune originals. It just says that I don't live inside the US so I can't look at it??

boula on October 3, 2009 2:19 PM

I'm glad knowing that i can import this device... The USA sucks as a dangerous country omg.

I can not wait for it anymore !

did someone say the Zune will not have bluetooth...If that is so..I am not interested...I did not want to buy an iPod....but at least they now have bluetooth, unless i can find another product that would make me happy...i really do not want to give apple any business. ( but i am not going to deprive myself of enjoying a product if they end up on top of the list) thank you

ashiiya on October 5, 2009 9:26 AM

Wow they made some nice packaging xDDD very colorful ^^ and that's a nice blue :DD not too bright and still looks great. And it's cute how they put their greeting on the side like that xD

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
