Samsung R1 In Beta

They guys at Journal Du Geek have been beta testing the Samsung R1 for a bit and have posted a few photos of it comparing it to that Cowon S9. As you can see it’s quite a bit smaller than the S9 and in turn smaller (3.4” x 1.8” x .35”) than the Samsung P3 but seems to have a lot of the same features including the same UI.

The 2.6” screen comes in 400x240 pixels and will playback all the same video formats at the P3 natively without conversion: Xvid, divx, H.264, and WMV. On the audio side all the good formats are supported: WMA, OGG, WAV, AAC, and FLAC. Bluetooth will also be a feature like the P3. The firmware is still a bit rough, so once that gets ironed out we will see an official announcement soon. The 32GB version will be priced at 270 Euros- so perhaps we will see it here in the states for around $300.

For people who cant be bothered checking the link, this players "special feature" is the Beat DJ app/toy/silly thing from the Samsung M7600.

What I need to know is, does it have wifi? That was the deal breaker for me when it came to going with either the P3, Zune HD or the Sony X-1000.

Being able watch / listen to music on youtube while sitting comfortable on my couch is a top priority.

I'd rather go with a Samsung product since they're price point is around what I'm willing to pay and their sound quality got great reviews. Come on Samsung, don't force me to buy a Sony.

@Jason: I don't think you tested wifi on the Sony.
Sony is badly implemented on every mp3 player except the Touch.
Samsung is the king of bluetooth. Don't need wifi

@lebellium:When I mentioned Sony in regards to my needs for wifi, along with an mp3 player that has great sound, it was based off several reviews the sony x-1000 has received. You're right in assuming I haven't tested the wifi on the Sony. Simply going off of some reviews it's received.

I know sony using netfront, which is awful. The reality is though, asides from youtube, checking email and reading a few forums. I have no need for an excellent browser, as long it doesn't crash due to memory limitations.

Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. Phonak Audéo PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
