Samsung P3 Noreve Case Review

p3-noreve-main.jpg

We have lately been taking a look at many of the new Noreve cases for some of the recent MP3 players. For those unfamiliar, Noreve makes high end leather cases for many electronic gadgets. The selection is quite extensive covering nearly all of the MP3 players featured on this site. Additionally, the product line extends to gaming devices, cameras, and even some netbooks.

The cases get pricey and fall in at the high end of the scale, but from the several Noreve cases I personally own, I feel that the price is warranted. The absence of brand price inflation is subsisted for good materials and quality craftsmanship.

A case can have great material and great craftsmanship, but fails to intelligently design the product to fit all the ports and buttons of a device. This can affect the overall functionality of a player, for instance if the transfer port is blocked you may be forced to take the player out of the case to charge it. This was the case (pun intended) for the Cowon S9. It’s the best case I have seen for the S9, but the design of the player didn’t allow for access to the transfer/charging cable.

With the Samsung P3 case (also see P3 player review), Noreve was able to engineer it so that you would never have to remove the player- all ports and buttons are available. The case lacks a kick stand for viewing video, but I found that the case will stay comfortable propped up with a slight twist of the back cover. This is sturdy enough for watching at your desk, but may fall over if you were in a car or on an airplane or on a boat.

This case is another solid case from Noreve, not surprisingly since we have given a thumbs up to all the others. However, I’ll give it an extra thumbs up to this case for making all ports available at the same time keeping the player securely in place.

This case comes in no less than 16 different combination of colors and styles ranging from $51 to $64. You can pick them up directly from NorveUSA or their global site Noreve.com.

Why bother with cases anymore? If you essentially can't scratch the screen (according to experiments performed by a certain anti-ipod website) and can get a covering (http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/index.php) to go over the rest of the player that is paper-thin, clear, costs half as much as the case in this review, and as tough as the screen already is, I don't see the point.

The screen might be wicked tough but it might not survive a fall. This case will protect it from drops.

Invisibleshild is one of the ugliest products to grace electronic devices IMO. Invisible at first but once dust and dirt piles up around the edges it look horrible. $25 for NON-reusable thin sheet of plastic is highway robbery.

Grahm: I have been using BSE's (Same material as IS) on all my devices for years, and none of them have picked up dirt under the skin.

Even if my player had a glass screen (My phone does), i would still use one, as it gives the screen a better texture to touch.

Also, i have seen ipod touch screens that are scratched to hell, so i doubt that glass screens are scratch proof. The biggest issue is though, if you drop it, the glass cracks. I would pick hard plastic over glass any day. (Off topic to this review i know).

By the way, nice review.

I hate these cases. I own two similar ones and thought my player was fully protected. Well I accidentally dropped my player but I fell right on it's edge and was damaged. Now, for whatever idiotic reasons there is no leather (as in pic 13) on 3 edges of my cases so 3 edges of your player are not protected! Putting a little leather here would considerably decrease the shock when the player falls on a hard surface. But no they don't do it. N_o_r_e_v_e is just an incredibly stupid company so don't rely on these cases for good protection. Also, manufacturing quality (crooked seams, opening for controls not fitting) of the case does not justify the high price.

    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
