Cowon D2 User Interface on the O2

Martin and I have been a bit disappointed with our O2’s (check out his O2 review). We have no complaints about the hardware and the sound quality is top notch as always. Cowon has made some minor fixes and improvements with Codec handling in recent firmware updates, but our major gripe is the UI. Equating it to something out of Windows 3.1, we were a bit puzzled as to why Cowon would take a few steps back when they already have something very successful to build upon- the D2.

Putting the D2 UI on the O2 would be a huge improvement and cure our main gripe. How could you argue with an oversized D2 with HD codec support? I have been trading a few emails with one of the O2 firmware programmers and he seems to think it is a good idea and has passed it on to R&D- so this may indeed become a reality.

In the spirit of product development and improvement, Martin has mocked up what the O2 would look like with the D2 interface after the jump.

Note that the D2 theme being used here is “moremono”.

YES PLEASE! I'm all for it if it's done....the O2's Ui is not the best and any improvement has my stamp of approval!

Let us hope it comes true! If it does I'm all over it. The UI has kept me on the sidelines.

Putting the D2 UI on the O2 would make it one of the best PMP's on the market!!!! The SQ is fantastic as is, this would just bring it over the edge!!!!

Actually when I bought the O2 I was really hoping for it to be just a big D2 with higher resolution codecs. The D2 has been a genius player. The O2 is nice enough, but with the D2 interface it would be a good deal better.

oh please be so... I really am a little (or a lot) disappointed with the operating system of my o2. play list support would be nice too!

The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice.     Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
