Heading off to CES 2009

I'm headed off to CES 2009, to bring you the scoop on the latest players. I am however a bit thrown off due to an ice storm to hit here in the North East on Wednesday, when i was supposed to fly out, so I had to push my flight up a day to beat the storm. I'm excited to get there early and have that extra day, but I Amazoned some last minute camcorder batteries, a Nintendo DS (Mario Kart FTW!) for the flight, and some other little necessities which will arrive just after i head out the door in the morning. I know, total bummer.

Either way, you can follow my CES adventures by following me on Twitter. I will be updating the main page with my finds thought the week as well as popping in and out of our IRC channel from time to time on my Blackberry Bold.

The abi YouTube channel might get some Hi-def love, so you might want to subscribe there as well.

Anyway, I'm off to pack, see you in Vegas!

Bon Voyage, Mr. Skee...
Keep your eyes peeled for that Sony Touch-screen player and don't trip over any beer-toting robotics. ;)

Dear Grahm Skee,

This message is to inform you that pictures of Samsung YP-P3 must be shot if available. Failure to do so may result in me bawling, migraine, and constipation.

Thank you.

A DS? Aren't you a little old for Nintendo? jk, On occasion use mine also.

Best of luck with the reporting! I have some family living in Vegas, I should give them a heads up on CES. Cheers!

YAY!!!!! Keep us posted!!!!!

P3s and Sony Touches are both awesome, but don't forget about the mysterious "stemcell computing" Zii silicon that Creative is hyping (and that I bet is an SoC with an embedded FPGA or similar). They're claiming it's going to change the world (pretty much literally). A lot of other sites are either dismissing it out of hand or not interested if it's not in a player, so for the sake of civilization AnythingButIpod needs to get the scoop.

Wondering when you're gonna update us on the new stuff

"Really looking forward to your guys coverage. I read Engadget is going to be the official partner of CES, regarding coverage but I'm really looking for someone who is going to do some awesome coverage of the Samsung YP-P3.

Would be great if we'd see some nice pictures and videos of the P3."

Top MP3 Players
abi Editor's Choice
  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely. Check out our review.
