Sony Walkman Touch
Sick of all the Zune Touch rumors? Here is another touch based player, though this time it’s not rumor. Sonyinsider reports on this player with some mock up product shots showing a device like the Cowon S9 or the Samsung P2 (or the upcoming P3). This PMP will be unveiled during this CES 2009 with capacities of 16GB and 32GB. It will also have Wi-Fi and a high contrast OLED, likely to be 480x278.
The player will have resemble past Sony UIs and will allow you to click on an artist and watch Youtube videos by them over the Wi-Fi connection. It will also have podcast downloads and access to Crackle (Sony’s video site) video feeds. Additionally, a search function is there so you can download and purchase music from Amazon directly.
The one thing that caught my attention was the “S-Master digital amplifier”, this could only bring good news to us more-expensive-than-the-player headphone toting audio junkies.
We will be front and center to give you the low down on this touch Walkman at CES 2009.

Wow nice man. I'm happy for you. On topic, it looks very good, I'm excited to see how it fairs against the S9, and P2/P3.

I hope it's in the advanced stages of design and all and there will be a working prototype.
I am interested in this one, though I am not crazy about the walkman UI and interface and stuff...
was looking out for the s9 which is finally coming out (though not in N.A.) and I knew about the P3 (but it did not excite me) but the this Walkman touch seems like a worthy S9/itouch competitor and has the OLED screen and new audio technology.... I might've just changed my mind about the S9 to finally get a Walkman (lost faith in walkman after my W810 cellphone SUCKED for music)

Be sure to tell us if sony still thinks having a DRM-loader like WMP is the way to go for their devices. I'll start to consider sony products when they'll learn how to do UMS.
ascariss on December 14, 2008 10:50 PM
You do not need to use WMP to transfer files over to any new walkman.

I bet by the time they actually release this people will be wanting a 64 GB version.

I just so happened to be that "more-expensive-than-the-player headphone" audio junky.
Very excited about the "S-Master digital amplifier."

I hope Sony finally jumps on the bandwagon to allow memory upgrades using either micro SD or micro MS. That is one of their biggest weaknesses in the MP3 player market, IMHO.

Cant wait to buy one of those..
