A Call to Arms for Charitable Giving: Toys For Tots

I got a ping yesterday from anythingbutipod’s ad manager, Netshelter, asking us to donate some of our unsold inventory for a charitable campaign run by TheTechLounge. The campaign benefits needy children of the U.S. Marine Corps.

“Today we are launching a raffle benefiting the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help needy children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation's most valuable natural resources - our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.”

If you take a look at the donation page, they are very very short of their $25,000 goal. While we could easily share some of our ad impressions for this campaign, I just don’t think it’s quite the push needed to reach this $25,000 goal. So we are calling out to our community here at abi as well as the Netshelter family of tech bloggers.

For our readers: We would love for each of you to donate $5. Skip the $5 Strabucks latte just for one day or skip that $5 extra value meal and make yourself a sandwich at home, just for one day. It’s really not that much money and as a bonus you could win some really nice prizes since each $5 you donate enters you to win one of 50 or so prizes. Abi readers would be most interested in the several pairs of UltimateEars and Etymotic IEMS.

For the Netshlter family of bloggers: I know you guys are making some extra coin this holiday, we are after all one of the largest tech vertical on the net- now larger than CNet. Anythingbutipod is putting its money where its mouth is and donating $250, 1% of the $25,000 goal- we would love to see similarly large donations from you. There are well over 100 of us, so this goal may not be too far off if we all throw in a little holiday cheer.

  • MobilitySite is the first one to chime in with a $250 donation.

I was always taught that the more you give the more you get back and though out my life I have found this to be true. So please help now and that good vibe, karma, or whatever greater good you believe in will come back to you in the future. Go to the donation page.

A small donation of $5.00 and I feel a little better. Remember people, there are so many others less fortunate than us, the least we can do is give to someone else.

Give a donation, and post your thoughts, we'd love to hear from you all.

And remember, NO Grinching!!!

Top MP3 Players
abi Editor's Choice
  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely. Check out our review.
