Creative Goes Officially Crazy With Zen Moo

zen-moo.jpg

I've seen a lot of weird MP3 players. There was this thing and the upgrade to iriver's already weird mplayer - the mplayer eyes. Now it's Creative's turn to make me facepalm myself with the introduction of their cow shaped mp3 player, the Zen Moo.

Apparently the Moo is China only which honestly is just as well. There are two versions, Moo and Moo Plus, where the Plus has a screen (same concept as with the Stone). Apparently the Plus will also have a Tamagotchi like game where you can train the cow. Both players will have a speaker and come in 2GB capacity and the Moo Plus will also have an FM radio and voice recorder. Basically the Moo is the exact same player as the Stone and Stone plus except for deign and the game.

To make it even more...interesting....they also announced a pair of portable Cow speakers to match the Moo. Hit the jump for more pictures - i dare you!

I see a law suit by Cow-on coming up... :p

Binks on November 21, 2008 5:49 AM

1st Post!!!! Haha, funny players, but poor Creative; how has it come to this?

nywytboy68 on November 21, 2008 6:34 AM

Well, I guess they're officially admitting to kicking the bucket w/this entry, as this is surely a last ditch effort for the Asian market. I will say that the girls are HOTT though!!!

samokhov on November 21, 2008 6:47 AM

For all we know, there might be quite a large market for those kinda things. I don't think a single player can please everyone. iPod is not one for those seeking the best sound and Toshiba Gigabeat (how's that review coming up, btw?) is not for those looking for something cute.
Besides, weird things like those make for good viral. So even if everyone doesn't end buying Moo, they are still left aware of the Creative brand.

sim on November 21, 2008 8:53 AM

Creative has lost it...

Maybe small children will go for it.

Mooze on November 21, 2008 9:32 AM

It's been relesed to celebrate the year of the bull in China.
That's why its a spesial China only edition.

Mike on November 21, 2008 10:26 AM

Not for me, but: congrats to Creative for adding whimsy and playfulness to its line! I think that kids, expecially, would like these.

Now if a company would only remember the audiophile adults and come out with a flash high capacity audiophile player--the time is ripe (and, actually, overdue), with 64 gb flash drives now on the market.

Relyt on November 21, 2008 11:13 AM

On Engadget they say that it's a tribute to the Chinese New Year - this year it will be Year of The Cow. Still strange, though.

H30 on November 21, 2008 11:21 AM

Need it so badly... Gimme, gimme, gimme

Utew on November 21, 2008 12:20 PM

Udder silliness. Cud this one be methane powered? .bov support?

Justin rosaria (jjrosaria) on November 21, 2008 12:31 PM

If this has a creative sound quality I'll buy one.. Its the perfect DAC cute + good SQ

:-D

Justin rosaria (jjrosaria) on November 21, 2008 12:35 PM

sorry I forgot to write this on my first post.. how do u control the player? is it like in the nose or something? Also in my first post I meant DAP not DAC.. lol

e.s.t on November 21, 2008 1:58 PM

No but seriously, this is awful looking player, even as in "for kids" category. With all the respect, but in my opinion, kids in Europe would vomit on it just by looking.

John on November 21, 2008 2:03 PM

Brings new meaning to DAP... Digital Animal Player.

Shinigami on November 21, 2008 3:58 PM

Looks like a cow version of iPod shuffle.

MarvintheMartian on November 21, 2008 4:20 PM

Isn't it a little early for April Fool's? hehe

Zoodar on November 21, 2008 7:23 PM

OMG... Speechless

swild on November 21, 2008 8:02 PM

Is it any wonder why apple dominates the dap market?

SansaRulez83 on November 21, 2008 9:33 PM

I think the one on the right in the main pic looks likes a dog which I think is a lot cooler. Can't wait for the review CaptnO! :)

M J on November 22, 2008 12:37 AM

It would sell like hotcakes in Japan, Hong Kong, China & other Asian countries. It has a "Hello-Kitty" feel to it. I think it's cute and playful, and it is the year of the ox next year.

Many young, cashed-up girls in non-Asian countries are starting to be interested in "girly" stuff too.

Ron on November 22, 2008 5:08 PM

wht mooze said was correct... i almost did lose it whn creative came out wit this but itz only for china and because of the bull year.... WHeeww..plz creative, be serious!!

freeway8989 on November 22, 2008 5:57 PM

Lol, the title should read "Creative officially goes crazy with Zen Moo".

imfallen_angel on November 25, 2008 3:09 PM

Sorry but I find these to be fun, cute and I wouldn't hesitate to get one (if I needed to get a small portable player).

I've got many Zen players and the kids love theirs. So if these Moos are made with the same quality, I think that they would make great gifts for kids and women, and heck, I wouldn't mind a b/w one myself.

I hope that they push these out to the rest of the world before someone else does it (animal shaped mp3 players) if it's not already done.

Gabe on December 1, 2008 5:59 PM

Wow really wierd, btw I really like the Internet on my iPod touch.

Brandon on February 25, 2009 1:46 AM

Not bad, I'm a 23 year old straight dude, I'd buy one, anyway, I don't think there are too many media players for young kids, I think this is a relatively untapped market....

Ceres on March 6, 2009 9:02 PM

This is the CUTEST mp3/player I have ever seen. Although it might not be what we're used to seeing, I think it's pretty creative and unique for diverging from the typical rectangular styled media player even if it is on the silly side. I think it's precious. Then again, I am Chinese and the fact that it's exclusive to China may make it seem like the general clientele it was aiming toward would be of that culture and lifestyle.

Jon on March 29, 2009 3:48 AM

My wife has a thing for cows. She wears a cow necklace, and has cow-shaped salt and pepper shakers. If Creative sold this thing in the US I'd buy one for my her.

Bingzhong on April 2, 2009 4:21 PM

Creative's new CEO, a 8 year old kid named Will Milk.

ashiiya on October 22, 2009 12:30 PM

Haha not a lot of people are gonna buy this, but if I need it for emergency purposes, I would definitely go for this XDD not something I'd use all the time

Creative's not a bad company so I won't question the audio quality or anything like that, but it's just so cute and also fun to look at XD when I first saw this I started laughing. It strangely made my day ^^

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
