Compare MP3 Players

Microsoft Zune 2 Photo Gallery

zune-photo-gallery.jpg

Here are a few photos of the second generation Zunes, 4 / 8 & 80; along with comparison photos to the rejuvenated first gen and other MP3 players in its class. Aside from the design addition touch interface the Zune 80 and the Zune 30 have an identical feel to them in terms of inter face thanks to the updated firmware. So those of you who have and “old school” Zune 30 you are not missing much.

Overall, I am pretty impressed with the new Zune line up. The design is on point, the interface is very smooth, and the new software is a beautiful thing. I think the Zunes tend to be a bit oversimplified at times and lacks features that will keep the hardcore audience clenching their Creatives, Cowons, Sansas, and Samsungs. But in time, we may see that change with future Zune firmware updates.

Without further delay, here are the pics…

I wanted a 1st generation zune, played with it several times at best buy. What kept me from buying it? No custom eq. I hate presets. I figured they would rectify this with zune 2, i really wanted the 80 gig. But now I find that not only do they not have a custom eq, there is no eq at all. No eq? NO EQ? Yeah I know that there are audiophiles who prefer a flat eq just as there are people who prefer no seasoning on their food or their coffee black with no sugar. I am not one of them. Where's my darned eq? I have $250 for you microsoft if you can somehow manage that. Don't care about wifi. Don't really care about the fancy glass screen. Just want my music to sound the way I want it to sound.

Does anyone know these things about Zune 80:

Can you hook it up to a d-slr and copy files over?

Use it as a mass storage (via drag and drop)?

Thanks!

I agree with you Akasan. I am really disappointed that MS opted not to include an EQ in the new Zune. I'm no hardcore audiophile either, but one sound does not suit all imo. I like the EQ to suit the sound to my liking, since not all CD's are mastered equally, some worse than others. Frankly, I don't care how the artist intended it to sound since they were probably using thousands of dollars worth of equipment during the recording sessions, it will sound different on my various headphones. Hopefully MS can implement an software solution for the EQ, since I have read the first gen Zune had the EQ built into the hardware.

Rant over.

No EQ. No balance control. No equalization processing for headphones. Add them before xmas and the 80 gig model is in my stocking!

when does the 80 come out in canada?

The New Zune 80 is perhaps the most beautifully simple DAP ever.
It's so pretty!

Has anyone else had problems witht he new zune software? I had the original zune, and when I updated it the new zune software doesn't recognize the ID3 tags correctly. It displays album/artist/track info, but it is mess, none of it matches anything in the zune software, or subsiquently on the zune itself once sync'ed?

  • Samsung P2
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 has been gaining quite a following lately and rightfully so. If you are looking for something well designed, innovative, and feature packed; you should look into this full touch screen wonder. The Bluetooth feature set is what I find to be the most intriguing, with the ability to tether to your phone to make calls or wirelessly transfer with no restrictions to other P2s. Check out the review or stop by our ever growing P2 forums to get the latest info.

  • Toshiba Gigabeat T400
    toshiba gigabeat t400

The Gigabeat T400 is without a doubt my favorite flash player at the moment. It does have one major setback in that it only comes in a 4GB, shame on you Toshiba. What makes me love this player is it's ultra slick sexy design, very easy- just pick up and use interface, and killer sound quality that would make Cowon users envious. This player is a must buy for anyone who sports a premium set of headphones. Full review to come but you should really just buy one.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • JAYS q-JAYS
    JAYS q-JAYS

The q-JAYS are great in ear phones. They offer excellent clarity, silky treble, realistic midrange, and a nice bass response. They're comfortable, incredibly tiny, and come with a huge selection of accessories. While they certainly are analytic phones, they're still fun to listen to. The q-JAYS respond well to EQing, and can be tweaked to fit almost anyone's sound preference. Recommended for anyone owning a good sounding player and well encoded audio files. Check out our review.
