New Flash Players from MPIO

Though a great deal of interest is being directed towards several of the leading electronics companies at the IFA electronics show this week, it is MPIO who has presented an assortment of new players.

Succeeding the MG100 is the appropriately named MG200 and it will have much the same specs, the exceptions being an extension in audio playback to 25 hours and the added video playback of MP4 and AVI files.

The MG300 also bears the dual circle controls and format support of the MG200, but carries the form of a PMP. Its screen measures 2.4-inches, has an FM tuner, recording capabilities, and possess 4GB of internal memory, which may not be anything to write home about, but SDHC expansion is also included. Very similar features and identical formats of the MG300 are offered in both the 2GB OG21 with 1.8-inch screen, and 8GB OG23 with 2.4-inch screen and SDHC expansion.

Lastly, in very similar style to the MG100 is the MD100; however it uses a monochrome screen is and will only tackle your audio needs. As well as supporting MP3, WMA (DRM), and OGG, the MD can receive DAB and record FM radio.

I bought the MG300... DON'T EVER BUY IT!!! It is beyond deception. It doesn't support SDHC cards, only SD (maximum 2Gb), the firmware is full of bugs (navigate trough the files is really ackward and slow, the files are not in alphabetical order, the equalizer in the player screen doesn't work well and makes the screen to take 5 seconds to come back from the power save), and, finally, the battery barely lasts 2 or 3 hours, even with all the power save features set to maximum. And I only tried the mp3 function of the MG300!!! I hope the video function is not as bad as the music one, but with this battery, I guess you can't watch a video for more than 15 minutes.

    The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it.     The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice.     JAYS q-JAYS

    The q-JAYS are great in ear phones. They offer excellent clarity, silky treble, realistic midrange, and a nice bass response. They're comfortable, incredibly tiny, and come with a huge selection of accessories. While they certainly are analytic phones, they're still fun to listen to. The q-JAYS respond well to EQing, and can be tweaked to fit almost anyone's sound preference. Recommended for anyone owning a good sounding player and well encoded audio files. Check out our review.
