Zen V Plus Gets an Upgrade to 16GB of Flash

zen-v-plus-16gb.jpg

Flash player capacities are nearing hard drive capacities. Is this a sign of the demise of the hard drive? Probably not any time soon, but it is the start. This Zen V Plus 16GB is an official Creative release and will be sold for around $270, but the site also states a sale at the moment for around $200 (converted to USD).

Unfortunately this is now just a Singapore release, but I’m sure the US and A will see them soon. Update: Now available in the US for $250. Three cheers for Creative since, to my knowledge, this is the first 16GB player to hit the market. For those keeping track of their Zen V colors this will be released in a white-on-black color scheme.

If you would like a nice in-depth look at this player please check out the Zen V Plus Review.

omg!.. 16 gb... that's crazy... i'll give HDD players another year or two...

iamtheworld on August 2, 2007 3:12 PM

woohoo now i have an excuse to upgrade from my microphoto and buy a v plus...!

Alex M on August 2, 2007 7:37 PM

but still on a 1.5"display...

skippyg on August 2, 2007 8:30 PM

theres nothing wrong with that, you want a bigger display device go for a Vision:m or zune. or even bigger, a Zen W, or A2. its not made for video mainly for music and very little photo

Utew on August 3, 2007 12:10 AM

Agreed Alex M, and a not so great qulaity 1.5" screen.. at that..

Good for Creative, but the V+ is a poor vehicle for rolling out a high-capacity flash increase.. Give me a 16GB iriver/Cowon/Samsung or for that matter a 16GB re-designed ZVM......

Alex M on August 3, 2007 12:11 AM

i have a zvw(home) and a yp-t8(out and school) but imight actually replaace the yp-t8 with the lower storage zen:v's cuz of size

I think Zen V Plus looks neat, but lacks on the battery capacity compared to Cowon's iAudio 7.

OT
Couldn't flash base player just make them so that users can just insert Compact Flash cards, and high-powered batteries themselves, and swap them out on the fly. This would make it so much easier to transfer etc. Then you could treat CF cards like cassette tape(yes I'm old skool, and still use them...)

The way they're built still seems very restrictive.

skippyg on August 3, 2007 10:42 PM

it wouldnt make sense to do that. and it would add lots of bulk

Jeremybernhardt on August 5, 2007 6:25 PM

OMG!! you actually use cassettes? get a tape deck that connects to the computer and convert to digital! then make playlists of eash cassette!

kkaa on August 6, 2007 2:06 PM

wow im pretty sure that sandisk and apple will release 16 gb models too... interesting stuff

zentrifugal_motion on August 7, 2007 1:43 AM

I'm totally getting one. All I have to say is, when is the U.S. release date??? Does anyone know????

Nodspy on August 7, 2007 11:08 AM

I want one. Just wish my iriver clix was 16gb instead of 4gb. I love my iriver so much but I need the space.

akasan on August 10, 2007 5:11 PM

can't wait until sony or cowon releases 16g flash payers, refuse to buy creative after ZVM. Sound quality not good (To MY ears). Nice screen and gui though.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
