SanDisk Announces the Sansa Clip

sansa-clip-main.jpg

SanDisk has answered back to the Creative’s Zen Stone with the Sansa Clip. Around the same size as a matchbook, the player features an OLED screen (the same one found on the Express) and flexes 15 hours of battery life. The player will feature all the usual features such as FM radio/recorder, voice recorder, and support for WMA and MP3. It will also feature playback for subscription content as well as Audible content.

The Sansa Clip will be available in 1GB and 2GB capacities and sell for $40 and $60 respectively. Unfortunately there is not microSD expansion slot on this one so you are limited to the two capacities. You will be able to purchase the Clip sometime at the end of September in black, red, pink, and blue.

Aww its cute. I love the pink one. I'd totally get it.

ShyAnne on August 25, 2007 7:51 PM

Cute player. At 15 hours it's got much better battery life than the Zen Stone Plus, which is also a nice player but only rated for 9.5 hours.

Suspect having the screen and especially the clip is more aimed at competing with the Shuffle than the Stone though.

Interesting, but I am waiting to see what Sandisk has in store next for their next generation of the E200 series and eventually their Sansa View/PMP device that they delayed to change up a bit. Sandisk has a good taste for design and specifications, amazing prices, and include some great features that should be in most all DAP's (mainly removable battery and memory card slots, but I guess you just can't have it all lol).

the Express is still better

So where is this mythical press release?

eFFeeMMe on August 27, 2007 3:51 AM

Huh, it looks pretty big to me judging by the USB port.

Dave on August 27, 2007 10:51 AM

Any ideas as to whether it'll be MTP or UMS? I'd like to be able to put music on this thing without any music manager software.

Sean on August 27, 2007 2:03 PM

I wish you could use removable memory

No details yet, but if it's anything like other Sansa's, you can set it to both USB modes depending on what you like best.

dfkt on August 29, 2007 6:11 PM

New Sansa don't let you choose between MTP and MSC anymore. They default to MTP on XP/Vista, and MSC on other OSes.

ZATZAi on September 1, 2007 4:16 AM

Like the new look of the site, but you need a SanDisk category on the top left along side Creative and others.

I've been Googling; looks like the latest Sansa models are MTP on Windows, and UMS on Linux. Not selectable. Supposedly on Windows you can use the Device Manager to make the Sansa Express a UMS device, I wonder if the same thing can be done with the Sansa Clip.

I just got my Clip, $34.99 @ Best Buy today.
It's great, I had a new Ipod classic 80 gb, I sent back, Itunes software was a waste of time.
The clip is so easy to learn how to use. I found I had to use the mini USB cable that came with the clip, My other mini USB cable would not let the clip install correctly.
In my area the radio works great, Even indoors. Custom 5 band EQ is nice also.
The clip has great sound and volume.
The Clip is the perfect MP3 player for me, I'm glad Sansa made this one.

My husband and I both picked up one at Best Buy yesterday for $34.99 - (thought hey looks good, it's got the features that we need, small enough and with a clip for the gym, running, or biking). Glad that we did cuz it's easy to use with Windows Media Player AND it comes with FM radio with presets and a voice recorder. Nice small player with 2G for a good value.

I just bought myself and my girlfriend a 2G Sansa Clip and it is by far the easiest system to work with that I have come across yet. It is a great little product that fits in my pocket and if it wasn't for the constant playing of music in my ear, I would forget that I have it. The voice recorder ,the AM/Fm tuner and let not forget the unbelievable 15 hours of battery life are also an added bonus, especially for the price, I mean $34.99 (Best Buy). Rock on. Two down falls though, no known accessories (i.e. car/wall charger, carrying case) and expandable memory would have been nice (i.e. removable sd card). But for the price and other great features I give this product 5 out of 5 stars.

My wife and I just bought 2 of these on Black Friday for $34.99(Best Buy). Great product and very simple to use. Being that I rip all of my cds in WMA format to my computer it was very easy and quick to load music. I had just purchased an Ipod Classic(which I love) a month before but don't like taking it to work as I work in a manufacturing environment. This Sansa clip will be easy to use and can hold plenty of songs to make the work week go by. My wife purchased hers mainly for working out, which it is PERFECT for. 2gb is plenty to go to the gym and rock out. Great product for everyone especially those who don't like to use computer programs. All you need to know how to do is use Windows Explorer and drag files to player-VERY SIMPLE.
Thanks Sandisk for the simplicity. 91/2 of 10

Jon on December 3, 2007 9:12 PM

anybody know if it has a DRP on it or not? stopping songs from like, limewire being uploaded onto it

James on December 7, 2007 2:13 PM

Wall and car charger from my motorola krzr flipphone seem to work fine with the clip, makes it really convenient.

azizul on December 25, 2007 12:55 AM

i love this....i have the pink 2 gb...i got it for 35 on black friday....its perfect except it would be better if it had time and date on it....but other than that its better than ipod

Anonymousish on April 20, 2008 8:52 PM

thanks for the review. Just got an 80GB iPod classic and I am very happy. But there's just one thing. How do you wear it while running? I wouldn't want to take my classic running with its hard drive. I really don't mind cutting my library down. I don't listen to some of the stuff in the corners of my library anyway. I'm glad to be transferring my music over to Windows Media Player for it. Windows Media Player is way less slow than iTunes. All they need is to update their colors so they don't all look bad (No offense Windows but Windows Media Player colors aren't very nice and they sure don't go with my background). I have some cutting down to do!!The only thing I'm worried about is the quality of the Sansa Clip. Is it going to fall apart on me? I don't know. I guess I'll just have to buy the 2GB to see. By the way, Future Shop isn't selling the 4GB version. Can anyone tell me why? Thanks.

    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 has been gaining quite a following lately and rightfully so. If you are looking for something well designed, innovative, and feature packed; you should look into this full touch screen wonder. The Bluetooth feature set is what I find to be the most intriguing, with the ability to tether to your phone to make calls or wirelessly transfer with no restrictions to other P2s. Check out the review or stop by our ever growing P2 forums to get the latest info.

  • Toshiba Gigabeat T400
    toshiba gigabeat t400

The Gigabeat T400 is without a doubt my favorite flash player at the moment. It does have one major setback in that it only comes in a 4GB, shame on you Toshiba. What makes me love this player is it's ultra slick sexy design, very easy- just pick up and use interface, and killer sound quality that would make Cowon users envious. This player is a must buy for anyone who sports a premium set of headphones. Full review to come but you should really just buy one.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • JAYS q-JAYS
    JAYS q-JAYS

The q-JAYS are great in ear phones. They offer excellent clarity, silky treble, realistic midrange, and a nice bass response. They're comfortable, incredibly tiny, and come with a huge selection of accessories. While they certainly are analytic phones, they're still fun to listen to. The q-JAYS respond well to EQing, and can be tweaked to fit almost anyone's sound preference. Recommended for anyone owning a good sounding player and well encoded audio files. Check out our review.
