Bang & Olufsen Beosound 6 the $800 4GB MP3 Player

I don’t know much about Bang and Olufsen, nor have I had any direct experience with them. From what I am told B&O is a brand of audio gear that is for people that have more money than brains. Please, alleged audiophiles, let me finish…

Enter the Beosound 6… This $800 MP3 player will sport a single capacity of 4GBs of flash memory with a 1.8” 64k color LCD screen to boot. Now here is where the notion of a true upper echelon audiophile grade MP3 player falls apart- file support for MP3 and WMA. No FLAC, no Apple Lossless, no WMA Lossless. Well you do get a pair of $160 M8 earphones and a leather case.

This is not B&O’s first foray into portable audio. Don’t forget about the memoryless and screenless Beosound 2 that retailed for $500.

Bang & Olufsen is a respected Danish brand... It is rumored that the inside electronics is identical with that of a big brand - I don't remember which one - perhaps it's Sony or Philips (not sure!)...
You pay a hell lot of money for the design, but I don't even think it's that pretty.

Phillips, if I recall

B&O and Samsung has become awfully good friends. They are both behind the silly looking Serene phone with even more silly price. So this is basically just a rebranded Samsung in metal case. If the price is anything to go by I should think that the casing is made from Titanium and Rhodium. Mostly their design is quite stunning though....don't know what went so horribly wrong with this one. It's not ugly - it's just so utterly boring. Funny, actually a Meizu is better looking and probably better sounding too and it's a lot cheaper. For the price you can get a Cowon D2 and sweet sounding Shures or Ultimate Ears and still have money left.

Specs would have been perfect at the price say....4-8 years ago? :P

hmm... 800$ why not get a 8gb Iphone and a sansa?

but seriously its an overpriced turd of a player

Who cares for a titanium, rhodium, schmodium? After three years it is going to the dumb anyway. Helloo, Bang and Olufsen, this is not a hi-fi set that is going to sit in my living room for a lifetime!...
But yet again there are so many Paris Hilton wannabees around who think they can prove they're better 'cause they can spend 800 dollars on an mp3 player.

Only things i like from B&O are their CD changers.

Looks suspiciously like a $160 Samsung Z5 with some minor design changes.

But, hey, the overpriced mediocre earphones it comes with make up for it, i guess. *lol*

They just take yp-z5 , give him new case , and they just doom yp-z5 ogg option and give it half of battery ...

heres an idea
buy a creative zen vison M 200$$ at wal mart (very nice!)
and then shure e4c earbuds 200$ or so
that equals around 400$$

which is 400$$ cheaper then that peice of crap

  • Samsung P2
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 has been gaining quite a following lately and rightfully so. If you are looking for something well designed, innovative, and feature packed; you should look into this full touch screen wonder. The Bluetooth feature set is what I find to be the most intriguing, with the ability to tether to your phone to make calls or wirelessly transfer with no restrictions to other P2s. Check out the review or stop by our ever growing P2 forums to get the latest info.

  • Toshiba Gigabeat T400
    toshiba gigabeat t400

The Gigabeat T400 is without a doubt my favorite flash player at the moment. It does have one major setback in that it only comes in a 4GB, shame on you Toshiba. What makes me love this player is it's ultra slick sexy design, very easy- just pick up and use interface, and killer sound quality that would make Cowon users envious. This player is a must buy for anyone who sports a premium set of headphones. Full review to come but you should really just buy one.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

    JAYS q-JAYS

The q-JAYS are great in ear phones. They offer excellent clarity, silky treble, realistic midrange, and a nice bass response. They're comfortable, incredibly tiny, and come with a huge selection of accessories. While they certainly are analytic phones, they're still fun to listen to. The q-JAYS respond well to EQing, and can be tweaked to fit almost anyone's sound preference. Recommended for anyone owning a good sounding player and well encoded audio files. Check out our review.
