Grundig Steps Up with the MPixx 2000

grundig_mpixx.png

The introduction of two new digital audio players from Grundig, the 1GB MPixx 2001 FM and 2GB MPixx 2002 FM, appears to be an indication that the company wants a more serious role in the low-capacity market.

As well as an extensive set of features, the MPixx carries a price to match. Both models have a 21-hour battery life for audio and come with a 1.8-inch TFT LCD with 65,000 colors; FM radio with 20-station memory; stereo sound and recording capabilities; voice recorder; support for MP3, WMA (DRM), WAV, and SMV audio formats; support for MPEG with transcoding software for WMV, Real Player, Quick Time, DVD, and MP4 video formats; and a picture viewer for JPEG and BMP files. All of this is available in 1GB for 79€ and 2GB for 89€.

Doesn't look bad at all....very simple...and the interface looks really neat. The earbuds don't really look too great. I'm being patient and waiting for something new from Microsoft, Samsung or Toshiba with a higher capacity.

Yeah, I agree that does look very nice. Sleek and easy on the eyes. The screen and interface looks really nice. Price and battery life is good too, sounds like a decent competitor if they market it well.

Beautiful gadget... the design is classy and clean -- very nice. I've always heard good things about Grundig (high hopes in the SQ department). Too bad they only make it 1GB or 2GB. These capacities won't impress a lot of people, unless it has a slot for SD or SDHC cards.

Looks good, sounds good and the specs indicate that it's USB 2.0. But when trying to copy a large file (~700 MB) on there, it takes about 15 mins, while on my cheapo USB stick with USB 2.0 it only takes a little over a minute. It seems like it works like USB 1.1. Anyone else had this problem?

Very Good player for the price. But buy another headphones. Try some AKG or Philips. The quality sound is great, and the fm radio works very good with powerfull stereo reception. Grundig is a great brand and when i had problems puttimg my videos inside,i just phoned grundig and they explained me , how to convert avi. It works perfect now.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
