Sony Video Walkman Due in March?
When we first reported that Sony had rolled up its sleeves to begin work on a video-enabled Walkman player, additional details were nowhere to be found. Exactly who has been picking up the breadcrumbs since then is unclear, but whoever it is now has enough to almost make up an entire loaf.
Okay, so that's an exaggeration, but the specs are definitely coming together. So far, it looks like the device is aiming to take down the iPod nano. Rumored to be available in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB capacities, the video Walkman will have a thinner (0.26"), less rounded NW-A3000/A1000 look and an 8- to 10-hour battery life for video playback. An exact screen size hasn't been disclosed, but it will almost certainly be bigger than the nano's 1.5 incher. And word on the street is that the black, blue, pink, and violet players will be priced to compete with Apple's $149 to $249 offerings.
Sony is expected to make an announcement early next month, so it won't be long before we find out anything for sure.

But all this means nothing if it still runs on Sonicstage and uses ATRAC.

It sounds pretty sweet. I've been looking for a player like this for a long time. If it has blutooth and radio, im getting it for sure.

saminthehat > sonicstage is shit, i agree but according to me ATRAC is nice format. And if you do not want to use it, you dont have to, you can always chose DO NOT TO CONVERT to atrac. ;-)

Why call it a Video Walkman if it is to compete with the Nano and not 5/5.5G iPod?

if it was hard drive based with at least 30 gig i might buy it

For those who still think Sony's Walkman only supports ATRAC are wrong. In fact, they support mp3, AAC, WMA, PCM, and ATRAC.
Also, it is journalists who called it "Video Walkman" not Sony.
Lastly, this seems to aim for Nano, not Video Ipod.
According to some site, Sony is also planning to release high capacity device to aim for Video Ipod.

I wonder in what other ways besides SonicStage they managed to cripple the player this time... Sony's always good for a laugh when they mess things up.

Sonic Stage is not bad at all ;)

I cant say I mind sonic stage (i only use it for syncin music, i admit that) but all in all its quite simple, and the atrac format is quite nice. Sony thus far has had better sound quality than ipod (im not even going into iTunes-purchased-music of 128kbps). I've had the NW-HD3 for almost 3 years now and altho its way out of date, has a horrible screen compared to ipod's video, i just love my sony. Plus unlike an ipod, you CAN kick it. Ive droped that thing so many times that the top plastic with buttons(if anyone bothers to look at a pic of it) is practically falling off. Once i even got out of my seat, and while swingin around the door of a bus, it droped right on my foot, which ended up in me kicking it out of the bus. No, it was still playing when i picked it up.
Anyway, I really do hope Sony comes up with something new that rivals the ipod, and il probably get it if it has some decent video. Glad to have found this site :P
