Samsung YP-K3 Is Official
We all knew it was coming, but today Samsung officially announced their upcoming YP-K3 digital audio player (also known as the watered-down version of the K5).
Pricing and availability are still unknown, but we've at least got a lot more details about the 0.27-inch thin player, most notably that there'll be 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB (!) models to choose from.
The other specs are pretty common fare (and most really only serve to confirm what we already knew), but it's still worth mentioning that the device will feature touchscreen controls to navigate between tunes broadcast on the FM tuner or stored on the internal flash memory in MP3, WMA, and PlaysForSure formats.
The 1.8-inch OLED display should be fine for basic track information, but that's about it. The player will likely have some sort of photo-viewing capabilities as well, but on a screen of this size and this quality, we won't break out the box of tissues if it doesn't.

Yes i know there is a power slide/button on the side.

They need to just release the 8gb already, why even market a 2gb version when your competition already has 8. Waiting just makes people goto another company. Plus not everyone is as easily satisfied as the has an anger problem "me" charactor.

I got a K3 1GB and lost the connection cable. For some reason, Samsung chose a non-standard cable that can hardly be replaced. I tried to order a replacement via Samsung but this would cost me EUR 40. Kind of ridiculous for a EUR100 MP3 player, I would say. What a dissapointment, last Samsung product in my life.

ive seen lots of video reviews on the black one & it doesnt have the samsung logo on the back which the lime green & cherry red has now.. does they have newer blacks with the samsung logo on it?.. im confused which color to buy.. i like black coz i want black earphones.. but i also want the green one so to be unique but it has white earphones which turns me off coz itll get dirty like my ipod's earphones now.. also im kinda thinking if the green one has less fingerprint smudges on it than on the black one.. anyone can help me decide pls.. i will be getting a 4gb version soon.. thank you so much..
unggoy on August 14, 2007 10:09 PM
finally got my black 4gb K3.. its cool.. its beautiful.. its gorgeous.. but i kinda dont like it.. sure it very good-looking but i find it hard to be a non-user-friendly unlike the ipod so im getting a nano as well as it is better IMO..
first, my laptop cant detect the k3.. i have winxp home sp2.. when i first plugged it, it says yp-k3 but had an error about something so i dunno what to do yet as it is still charging at this moment..
mine came with v1.09 firmware but i dont know which newer firmwares to get.. the UK samsung site has v3.05 while the PHIL samsung site (which is my home country but im currently living here in italy) has v4.06.. now which is better?.. i want to be able to change the GUI color.. can it only install one color?.. does it matter where you got the k3 when installing a firmware, as i got mine here in italy but im thinking of installing the one from my home country?.. is it possible to damage the k3 by accidentally installing a wrong (region) firmware?.. can i revert back to lower firmware after installing a higher firmware or if i reset the k3 using the little button/hole at the back of it, will it revert back to the original factory firmware, which is v1.09 for me?..
need help here please..
SL on August 18, 2007 1:26 AM
what are the methods of charging for this K3? On the SAMSUNG site it isn't very clear, apart from a mobile charger...
SoopAfrog on August 25, 2007 8:31 PM
It charges with a usb cable
you can get adapters to charge with wall or car.
I own both and the K3 is much nicer than the nano. Software is easy to use, no problems detecting or syncing.
As far as the above comment... I dont see how its not user friendly. The controls are very simple and is more descriptive than the ipod that used the same buttons to do 10 functions.

july on August 28, 2007 11:34 AM
to soop afrog im sitting here readin ur comment and i wonder... did u sync after charging or at the same time as mines chargin nd it isnt detected... any help
unggoy on August 28, 2007 9:47 PM
install windows media player 10 or the new ver. 11 coz it has a built-in MTP driver (something like that).. that's what i did with mine..
the k3 is very easy to use.. just drag & drop files onto it.. the controls takes a little time to get used to but it will be very easy once you get the hang of it..
the only flaws i found so far is that the screen can be hard to see in direct sunlight but it doesnt matter as i always put it on my pocket & not always looking at the screen.. hehe.. also the photo viewer sucks.. when you put picture files on it using the samsung media studio software it resizes the pictures making it more pathetic-looking on the screen so i just drag & drop the files yourself on the k3 dont use the SMS software.. one more thing that bothered me is the position of the hold button.. i thing it would have been better if it is on the left side of the k3 or at the top, it could have been easier to use the hold button that way..
anyway, the k3 is better than the nano IMO.. but if youre thinking of getting one, i suggest you wait for the new S5 & T10.. i think the infos are on this site as well.. if only i should have known they were gonna release newer mp3 players soon, i should have waited & didnt get a K3.. im definitely going to get a T10 & give my k3 to my younger brother when they release the new products..

Hey unggoy you said a while back that you bought the black one right? I'm thinking of getting one of these myself and I wanted to know if the black version had the "Samsung" logo on the back. Also if anyone knows where I can find 4GB Green version please tell me (I'm in Canada btw). At FutureShop and BestBuy they only have the Red and Green in 2GB versions.
Thanks.

i just stole the yp-k3 last night from work, and i must say it is very stylish with a bold design. its definately worth the money, ;). one thing i dont like though, is the battery is not replaceable. i think that is gay. wish i would of got one that had a replaceable battery, it would of been worth my mon.....oh wait, i didnt pay for it! ;)
devil_666 on September 7, 2007 8:15 PM
why would you want a replaceable battery on an mp3 player that's gonna be obsolete by the time the battery dies?.. i'm sure by the time that happens, newer & better players would be out, so just get another one..

!!!!FOR YOU GUYS THAT THEIR K3'S WONT TURN ON!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought my k3 weeks ago and I have had it sent back twice now, everybody should know the battery for these things are stingy,3 of my other friends all have the k3 and have all had the same battery problem. If you k3 doesnt turn on its the battery. all you need to do is take it back to where you bought it and they will send it down to get fixed and you should have it back within a couple of weeks.

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO DELETE A SONG OFF MY K3
Brent on December 30, 2007 5:33 PM
I bought one for my son yesterday at Best Buy and it's been charging since but obviously defective since it will not charge. Once you take it off the USB cable it lasts about 20 seconds then you get the low battery message. It shows that it's charging on the screen when it's plugged in, but not doing anything!
Anonymous on January 3, 2008 1:09 PM
hey..
people who can't open their k3s jus hold the button for like 5 seconds...if it doesnt open jus flip your mp3 and u'll see a RESTART button...just click on it with pin or smthn..(because its TOO SMALL)...it shud work....workzz everytime for me...
Anonymous on January 3, 2008 1:16 PM
and yeah "STACY B" u can delete a song by goin to ur removable disk thingy in "my computer" and then go to that particular song and jus delete it the normal way...wats so hard abt it??

I bought the Samsung to replace some ipods that were doing their best at driving me insane. In short the YP-K3 is a brilliant little player, fantastic sound quality with my audio-technica ATH-CK5s (nano, shuffle).
The best thing about the K3 is the fact there's no DRM whatsoever, just **make sure to THROW THE INCLUDED CD IN THE BIN** and then simply use Windows Media Player to synchronise your lossless CD rips to the player. As it synchs it'll convert your songs to your chosen bitrate prior to transfer.
Awesome.
