Sony Walkman with Video Coming Soon

sony-walkman-logo.jpg

Sony announced today that it has begun development of a new Walkman with video capabilities. In classically vague fashion, Senior VP Hiroshi Yoshioka divulged that the upcoming device will "handle images" but pleaded the fifth when asked to reveal specific details. He also alluded to doubling Walkman's share in the global DAP market (from its currently measly 10 percent to a more respectable 20 percent) but again declined to elaborate.

Not much to go on here, but at least Sony will abandon, if only temporarily, its love of the monochrome and OLED display.

All I can say is 'monkey see monkey do'. Seems like everyone is hooping on the Ipod bandwagon. Microsoft followed and now its Sony. I wonder who else will be next.

You do you know that ipod wasn't the first portable video player, right? ipod was also one of the players to hop onto the bandwagon.

"You do you know that ipod wasn't the first portable video player, right? "

Right you are. We Windows people were playing mp3s on our Rio PMP300e in 1998, while it took Apple until Oct 23, 2001 to even announce the first IPOD. Same with portable video players. I bought an Archos Gmini 400 photo/audio/video player in 2004 after my MSI portable audio video player crapped out in 2003. Now that viral video is the new big thing, there will be hundreds of new Portable Digital Audio Video devices which will take a sizeable chunk out of all Apple sales.

I was thinking of buying a MP3 player for a VERY good friend of mine, but with all of the choices the cons seems to out weigh the Pros. What is a good cheap MP3 player?

How about a Walkman PSP that plays videos and can make cell phone calls? When I first saw the PSP I was a little disappointed that it wasn't a cell phone as well.

Henry Ford didn't invent the Car but he made it available and convient for EVERYONE. I bought a Sony/Ericsson w800i about 2-3 months before the iPhone was announced by Apple. After some reading and research, I want to throw my w800 in the garbage.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
