SanDisk Sansa c200 Series
Next month, SanDisk will start selling its new c200 series of flash-based digital audio players. The 1GB c240 ($80) and 2GB c250 ($100) both sport a 1.4" 64K-color LCD for viewing album art and photos, digital FM tuner with 20 preset stations, FM and voice recorder, removable battery, and microSD expansion card slot. Like its predecessor, the c200s support MP3, WAV, WMA, and WMA-DRM files. Nothing too thrilling, but we'd probably still stand in line to get one.

"Rechargeable & Removeable Battery"
so this means no more AAA battery, like with the c100 series??
will this also mean the c200 series will therefore be slimmer - maybe to the e200 series' 0.5" thickness, and not the c100 series' 1.0" thickness???

Sandisk is one of the leading producers of cheap convenient, removeable memory cards (aka standard size SD cards). So can someone tell me why they no longer make devices that use them? Why use the expensive, hard-to-find mini-SDs?
Silver R. Wolfe on September 4, 2006 8:38 AM
So they can have smaller devices of course. SD cards are not the tiniest things in the world.
njm on September 7, 2006 11:18 AM
"So they can have smaller devices of course. SD cards are not the tiniest things in the world"
That's ridiculous. Every product I've seen that takes mini / micro SD cards could EASILY have been made with a full-size SD card slot (if the manufacturers had tried).
More likely companies like SanDisk want to create a new market for their memory cards!

I'm struggeling to find the major differences between the c200 and e200 series. e200 seems to have a larger screen and larger flash capacities.. is that about it?
Solo on September 26, 2006 1:46 PM
e200 you can do video. larger more colorful screen. unit is larger, too.
I am reading at New Egg trhat there are drag ansd drop probs out of internet explorer. using windows media player works better apparently.

Hi, people. I just recently found this website, and I was looking for an mp3 player. I've had my eye on the c200 for about a month now...anyone own one? Or know whether or not it's any good? I don't want to get it and then have it turn out to be a piece of crap like the c100 series were...
Could anyone help me out?
Thanks

Got c250 at Best Buy. Good for music. Drag n Drop worked, WinMedia10 sync worked, but had to restart on one real large sync, no biggie.
I would not hate on this unit. Music sounds good, included ear phones don't suck, it's got EQ including a custom one. Dude, the FM tuner is pretty strong. It's hard to get stations around here, the Sansa pulls them in. Look, for a simple small music player it does the job and does not suck.
As my first (modern) mp3 player, for $110 it gets me started. Maybe next time I get something that plays DVDs and stuff. For now this is cool. I'm a noob on features, but the music sounds decent. (Oh yea, it's got Lithium Ion battery, not the AAAs, some one asked about that.)
Lauren J on October 24, 2006 6:47 PM
Thanks...i don't know if you were writing this above comment ^ simply for my benefit, but thanks regardless. I was looking for something w/ FM radio...IT HAD TO HAVE GREAT RADIO. it was very nice of you to include this important bit of info.
now that i know it's good for music, radio, AND attention, i think we have a winner!
Pam on October 25, 2006 8:05 PM
I got a c250 to replace my dead 100 series MP3. How do I recharge the battery? There's nothing in the instruction manual about battery recharging. I am being stupid?
HeloMonster on November 14, 2006 6:29 PM
Dude to charge the battery just connect the c250 to your computer USB port, it charges while it is connected. Looks like this site started a forum for this unit, click on the forum link above. Not much action on the c200 Series board compared to the e200 board (I guess more people have the e).
The FM radio sounds good, but has anyone noticed that after recording some FM radio, playing it back later does not sound as good as listening to the FM radio? Is it just me?
Does anyone use the microSD expansion card slot? Is it worth the cost of memory?
Lauren J on November 26, 2006 6:00 PM
I have a new sansa 250, and I love it. It makes me very happy. But the reviews were right about one thing--the pictures do look like crap. Regardless, I wanted the player for music, so that really isn't a huge deal to me. File transferring is really fast, and I like the iinterface. I do have an issue with the screen's lighting, though--why does it darken completely after the backlight goes off? You have to push the buttons again just to see the screen after the backlight goes off...it's irritating. Is there a fix for that...?
Overall, I think that this player is great. The buttons on mine are a little uneven or something, and that bugs me, but I'm kind of OCD anyways. In my opinion, CNET.com was terribly hard on the poor thing! I mean, with a screen this tiny, it stands to reason that the pics wouldn't be that great. And that review just bashes the whole thing. It's also senseless and hopelessly contradictory to itself, at times.
For one, there IS album art support...just press the center silver button and it'll show you a picture of the damn album! Two, the "dull blue background" is not that effing bad. Would they rather it be bright pink with orange and green stripes? And last, they said the music sounded bad. I think it's sounds pretty great--not everybody is a freaking audiophile, trying to get Bose-like sound from a tiny little mp3 player!
(To see the actual review, go here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/SanDisk_Sansa_c250_2GB/4505-6490_7-32078916.html?tag=pdtl-list)
So, basically, I really like this thing. It's small, sleek, and very neat. Of course, I do have a issue with how easily fingerprints and such get on it, but I think it's a great little player and I'd recommend it to most anybody who was looking for a simple, high-quality player to start out with.

How to safely remove the Sansa C240 from Computer?? unlike other USB based things this one does not show any symbol on the Taskbar of my Computer......please suggest some solution!!
Lauren on November 28, 2006 6:56 PM
REMOVING SANSA C200 FROM COMPUTER SAFELY:
I, too, experienced the problem you are experiencing. My computer made a noise signaling that it was "aware" of the sansa being plugged in, but you're right--there is no icon.
But while downloading firmware, the little illustration suggested that you simply do this:
1) PULL OUT THE USB CONNECTION TO THE COMPUTER FIRST
and then
2) Disconnect your sansa from its end of the connector.
Hope this helps. I've been doing this, and nothing has gone wrong.

I purchased my Sansa C240 MP3 Player at Best Buy a couple of days b4 Thanksgiving. I like the Sansa C240 because it is nice and compact and I play my music everywhere. One person posted that it is annoying when the screen turns off and then u have 2 press the Menu button 4 the player 2 light up agian(i hate that 2). Anyway, I got a question. Is it just me or do some of you have problems trying to delete songs when you r transferring music from the computer to the player. What do u do 2 delete songs? If u know how, please tell me?
Bill on December 23, 2006 10:15 AM
Sansa C240
Maybe I'm the one that got the reject, but mine doesn't work worth crap, and I'm taking it back to Best Buy today. Here's why: I loaded 385 mB of songs (VBR mp3s) into the unit. It will play a song or two, then stutter, then grind to a halt. The song still shows on the display, but the progress bar shows the song stopped playing. I can't advance, reverse, jump, nothing. I turn it off, and it reboots to the exact same place and problem. As I type, I'm watching the screen turn off and on by itself, while it is attempting to move beyond the 0:59 mark of a song. You want to turn it off? Press and hold the "menu/on/off" button for 10 seconds. It takes approximately 15 seconds to reboot. In my opinion, I think they have crappy firmware.
I can sometimes advance in the song, but not jump to the next. Then, without warning, it starts back a the beginning. No audio. I'm not the type to trash a product- that is why I visit these reviews so that I can buy something that is generally pretty good. But this player is so bad, I feel like I have to warn SOMEONE.
I downloaded their SansaUpdater software to my computer, and updated the firmware. I allowed the battery to charge overnight. Even so, it is unbearably flaky. I'll take a chance with another product.
It seems to be very sensitive about how you plug it into your USB port. Make sure you plug in the big side, then the small side. Earlier this morning, I was getting "no music" msgs, even though I had 99 songs loaded.
Incidentally, the "documents" suck. Notice how there are several posts about "how do I charge the battery?" Here's what the instructions say about batteries:
1. The C200 is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery.
2. Press to remove the cover...on the back of the player.
3. Orient and insert the battery...for proper installation.
That is it! At least it is written in grammar-correct English. However, the instructions have plenty of words, but no real information.
I got an RCA unit that has a sandisk expansion slot a couple years ago and love it still. I bought my 13 year old a Creative Nomad Zen unit last year, and he has had no troubles so far. I bought the Sansa for my 11 year old, but I wouldn't give something this flaky to a kid. It would just frustrate them. It isn't like I'm unfamiliar with these players. The Sansa C240 that I bought is junk and will be returned and not replaced. I know they all aren't like that, but I am particularly interested in MINE! Here's my warning: save your receipt.

Ok, I got my son a c240 for Xmas. We downloaded songs from media player. They chowed up as well as many that were already in the mp3 under "Genre". I could playt he ones under "Genre" but when we tried to play the ones we downloaded from my computer it said that it has to synchronize I can't find any helpful info in the user's guide, it talks about synchronizing software????
Can anyone help? My son is flying out tomorrow and would like to use his MP3 on the plane. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Paulo on December 25, 2006 1:59 PM
From C200 manual:
Transfer Music
3. In MTP mode as long as the files are WMA or MP3, they can be dragged into the Media folder.
Otherwise, they can be dragged into the Data folder (these files will not appear on the player).
4. In MSC mode, files/folders can be dragged/copied to the device.
My question: How do you pick MTP or MSC mode on this thing? One of the reasons I ask is that the Sansa Updater states:
"Please make sure your Sansa player is in MSC mode before plugging it in. "

How long do these players usually take to recharge?
JWH on December 25, 2006 10:22 PM
Ok...I never respond to these dialogues, but since there's a bunch of folks who just bought this thing (which I bought for more son), I think I can figure our the answer to a bunch of these questions. It appears there is a cultural technology gap here. Are there a bunch of users out there who don't use computers a lot?
JWH on December 25, 2006 10:43 PM
...BTW, Merry Christmas. I just bought the Sansa for my 9 y.o. son (I might have to borrow it for the gym) and it's pretty slick (also didn't cost as much as the IPOD). Hell, you're just going to play music anyway. Right!
...OK, here goes:
- You can change the amount of time the backlighting stays on if you go to "Settings" >"Display">"Brightness" or "Backlighting" through the menu (you can also adjust the brightness of the screen);
- Battery charges through the USB port (no I couldnt open the back of the d*&n thing);
- Yes, the accompanying documentation bites;
- You can change from MTP to MSC by going to "Settings" > "USB" > "Autoplay" or "MSC" (choose "MSC"); I'm guessing "Autoplay" interfaces w/whatever software you use to organize your files in that way (i.e. establishes the heirarchical relationships between file folders and files, like album title to band title to song name...you can view this through the computer in windows explorer). MSC mode allows you to skip this and you can still choose your songs by band, album, or song (however, I uploaded a Gorillaz song and it will list the band and song name, but lists the album as "Unknown"...don't know why...may not have the title listed properly in the file itself).
- You're not supposed to store more than 250 MB of MP3s (though you can sotre more WMA files). This may give you some choking.
- You probably delete songs and pictures by deleting them the computer when the things hooked up...it's the only way you can manipulate files, so I'm assuming this to be the case.
Merry Christmas y'all

OB on December 25, 2006 11:34 PM
Darren-
In MPT mode (select Settings...USB...Autoplay to put the device in MPT mode) you can simply drag and drop a jpg image from your computer to the Sansa PHOTOS folder.
I know that JPG files work, and I suspect that JPG is only acceptable format.
In MSC mode, use the Sansa Media Converter (install it from the CD that came with the gadget). That program will tell you whether or not it "likes" your image format.
Disconnect the device from your computer. Look under the Photos menu on the device. They should be there, and they should look awful. (Hey, its an mp3 player not a camera.)
Good luck, and don't forget to wear a helmet when attempting these procedures.
David on December 26, 2006 1:08 AM
I just got a c240 for christmas, and I uploaded about 40 songs, through the computer with Windows Media Player, because the media converter doesn't work out with pics, and I didn't need to convert music. Anyways, after I take the cord from the unit, the songs and pictures are there, and everything is good. When I turn it off and then back on, the unit recognizes that memory is used, but says there are 0 songs, where before it said 40. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, I'd appreciate an answer, and I'm probably going to call the helpline in the morning. Also - the instructions are useless...

I too just got the c240 for Christmas. There was nothing in the instructions about how to charge the battery, but I figured it out by defalt when I hooked up the usb to my computer.
I loaded several songs and was playing it for a while, when I tried to turn it off it locked up on me. Now I can do nothing. it is stuck with "goodbye" on the screen and lit up. I cant even figure out how to open the battery door to remove the battery so I guess I will ahve to let it die before I can see if this is going to be a recurring problem. If so it will go back.
How frustrating...and I agree the documentation on this sucks!

Darren- Same thing happened to me, so I called the helpline today. The guy told me to try a diffgerent computer, because it doesn't work right on my desktop. I then did exactly the same process of downloading the same songs, after i formatted the unit, on another computer. It works for me. The pictures are whats giving me problems, they don't show up under Pictures, they do appear when I hit View Slideshow though... I can't figure that out.

That problem also happened 2 me as well. Sometimes my screen will get stuck on "Goodbye" when I want 2 shut the player down or it gets stuck on another screen like when the backlight is on. Anyway, this is what worked for me ACJ(hopefully it will work 4 u). The screen will stay in its stuck screen position for a couple of hours but after a while it will disappear. When you start up your player again, it will then show u the low battery indicator(battery with the color red). When it shows u that, just recharge your player via the computer and everything should be working again(As I said, this is what worked 4 me, hopefully it will work 4 u)

How do I access or remove the battery?
Hold the Sansa face down between the thumb and forefinger of your right hand (I'm right handed so this is easiest for me) with the large connector away from you. You should be able to read "SanDisk" printed on the back. Position your right thumb so it is over the small, rectangular indentation on the back. Place your left hand so your left thumb is positioned ahead of your right thumb. You should now be holding the unit with both thumbs on the back and both forefingers on the front. Pinch the unit between your thumbs and forefingers while pushing the back cover away from you. Give it a firm push and the cover will slide toward the end with the large connector.
To replace the cover position, position it over the back about 1/8" open. It will lay flat without having to pop down if positioned correctly. Slide the door shut by pushing with your thumb at the large connector end. Clear enough?

MTP mode is one of the modes you can use to transfer files to your player. To access it, turn the sansa on. Then, go to SETTINGS on the main menut and move down to USB. Click it--two options will appear, Auto Detect (MTP) and MSC. Make your choice.

HI I have been reading this fourm and I am trying to understand my sansa 240 mp3 player... it came with a gold colored battery that I thought was not a rechargable (an AAA)but in reading here I guess it is rechargable via the usb cable it came with? The instructions that it came with say nothing about wether it can be recharged or how to do it.. and printed on the battery it says GP Alkaline 24A LR03 Size AAA 1.5 V
WARNING may explode or leak if recharged.. So.... do I buy more AAA batteries when this one dies or what?? SO far mine works very well! I have had no problems with it ... other then the blue light shuts off to fast.. but I read above in previous posts that the backlight can be extended in time. But forgive me if I am still unclear about the rechargeing situation... this is my very first mp3 player and I consider myself brave to own one as I don't even have a cell phone, and I'm not very "tech oriented" Clarificaton please? Kitty
Pyrofyr on December 29, 2006 8:57 AM
Alkaline batteries are normal non-rechargable batteries. It would be a very bad idea to try and recharge it, especially inside of your mp3 player.
To extend Backlight time
Settings->Display->Backlight
I'm fairly certain it's not rechargable if it came with one of those, very awkward though. Did you get it straight out of the pack or did you purchase it used or what? You might even want to look into getting a battery that recharges, Lithium Ion.
Upon consultation of the Sandisk website, it seems that c240 doesn't come with a Lithium Ion battery, however it does have the capacity to recharge batteries.
SK on December 29, 2006 11:51 AM
To JWH: There may be a cultural gap here as you state; however, I will go out on a limb here and say that the documentation and accompanying software that came with this thing SUCKS..... and maybe that's why there are so many posts here!? My Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra was/is wonderful in that it came with great printed instructions, great software to create playlists and manage MP3's loaded, and even a carrying case! The C240 was a great buy though and does appear to be a good player for my son as I feel that the Ipods are a bit pricey....but if SanDisk wants to compete in this market, they have got to do a better job with its documentation. I do think that most of these people that posted a question here would of and could of easily figured out their own answers if the documentation was a tad bit clearer... and come on SanDisk, include a cover/case with the thing to help protect (that may have set you back a few extra pennies to include)! Thats my two cents worth!
No one has answered my non-technical question....how do you remove the cover without destroying the thing??? I've tried pressing in and trying to push it back at the same time but about ripped my fingernail off!
SK on December 29, 2006 12:21 PM
TO JWH: I forgot to mention in my post.....thanks for your post in helping to explain a few things (since many don't appreciate the help given from others!).
TO CRAIG: I read your post re: how to remove the back cover and still, no go. I am determined to get this thing off, tried to slide it off but I think this da?n cover is put on with super glue or something....maybe my propone mini torch might help!
OK, well my fingers could not do it so I got out my mini screwdiver set and stuck the smallest flathead screwdriver in the gap and slightly twisted it and the cover slid back (it appears as though the battery cover was raised and putting pressure on the cover and prevented it from sliding back).
Also, to answer a few posts re: the battery now that I got the cover off :-) .....
It is a Li-Polymer battery which are lithium ion polymer (lithium polymer) rechargeable batteries which have technologically evolved from lithium ion batteries.

Almost forgot to add, I did get the back casing off just recently. The battery comes out fine a Li-Polymer (Lithium Ion Polymer) battery, just as previously stated, (I use a c250 2gb) so it's safe to say they both use a Li-Polymer battery. [Apparantely made/bundled in Korea as there is Hangul under the english]
It works much like most standard PC does, with the 2 grates to hold it in place, so it won't just fall off, it seems to fit almost too snug though.

Pyrofyr: Thanks so much for the reply... come to find out I am actually posting in the wrong area as my Sansa is the m240 not the c240,,, well I admitted I was not to bright with technical stuff. (red face) Anyway it does use regular old triple A batteries... Now, my question.. can I use Rechargable AAA s in it? I allready have a 4 pack of triple A,s and a Recharger... most everything that uses regular batteries can use rechargables ... is that correct? Thanks :)

hey i just got the c250...its been pretty nice with its options...ive had the whole reboot thing happen to me too...um...the only prob im really concerned with is...
...the cd that came with it had sandisk's Sansa Media Converter...this..well...i found was useless...but it says in the manual to use it to transfer ur photo's...so...as the manual states...this is what i did...well...i plug it in the comp...comes up...i have no prob with the drag and drop of music into it...but wen i look all over for it in the file folders on the device...i cant find the photos i uploaded onto it wen going thru this program...where are my pics?? and how do i delete them??
...i can see them perfectly fine from the screen of the mp3 player...but to plug it into my comp and look thru ALL the folders...i cant find them...where did they get hidden to?
please write back...thanks
...P.S: to put photos on...just drag and drop as you would with music...this way you CAN delete them... lol i found that part out...DONT USE THE PROGRAM THAT IT COMES WITH ON THE DISK ITS USELESS lol...just thought that might be of some help...

HELP!!!!!How can you delete photos off of a Sandisk Sansa Mp3 c250 player???
Slayer on December 31, 2006 5:44 PM
Just to tell people the battery cover does come off with alot of force it did
"press to remove didn't help at all" but using extreme force did.
One question how can you tell if the battery is fullly charged?!?!?!?
The green battery light just keeps going up and down...
Chris on December 31, 2006 6:19 PM
Your right about the bad documentation! I think the player I got is defective and I'm on day 2 with tech support emails. When I turn the player on, I don't get a main menu. The player goes straight to the music screen. I've tried removing and reinstalling the battery and formating it on the computer and tried it out on more than one computer and nothing works. If anyone has suggestions I would appreciate it.
Chris on December 31, 2006 6:23 PM
btw... when the battery stops going up and down and stays fully lit, the battery is charged.

well Happy New Year Everyone! :) ...another year down...another one to go...hopefully we can get this thing figured out sooner eh :P
...well...the docs the thing comes with are horrible...they dont help at all...the manual says just delete the files as you normally would like say if you were in your documents...thats the way they explain to delete it...well...i do just as said...but the files arent appearing...it seems alot of people are having this same problem...
...the program it came with...called the media converter...for transfering photos works but...when you go to look for your photos to delete them when connected on the computer they do not appear...
...they do appear on the player screen and everything as normal...just not when i have the device connected to the computer and try to delete the files...
...other than that i have no complaints and no troubles...
HAPPY NEW YEARS :)
lets get this one figured out for everyone :)

well i got the c200 for christmas and i cant find my software. anyone know where i can just download it? thanx
Mac on January 2, 2007 7:53 PM
well i found out the prob...ok heres what you do to view EVERYTHING lol...turn on ur mp3 player...click format...ok this will delete EVERYTHING...so if you want the names of the sample songs and stuff...make sure you write em down cuz it will all be cleared and write down any FM presets and w.e you may want...now go to settings, click format...this will clear everything...then go into ur settings again and click USB and then say Auto Detect...then...unplug...restart ur comp....plug it back in...and wait a few mins for it to load...go into My Computer then it should show up and well...everything is fixed...and to put music on or off...drag and drop...to put photos on use the software it came with...just try this a few times...it should work...ive got mine to work...and to delete the photos...go into the mp3 player like u would ur music...and push delete...hope this all helps...
P.S: does anyone have the song samples that came on the mp3 player still on there...if you could give me the names and artists on all that would be greatly appreciated
:) thanks
if you have any P's or Q's just post and ill reply asap
Mac on January 2, 2007 9:10 PM

Mac,
Just got my c200 for christmas. Still working on getting songs on this thing. The five songs that came with the unit are as follows:
1, Cobblestoned Waltz
2, Return of the champion
3, Wax Museum
3, Angel
5, Babylon of the Orient
Hope this helps

For now, just send to this more or less computer-illiterite person the instructions on how to CHARGE the battery. Be as specific as you can be. Assume I know nothing - e. g. assume I don't know the handle strap for the device from the computer-connecting line. Thanks.

Have the Sansa c250 MP3 player, I plugged everything in as supposed too and theres a padlock on menu screen that doesnt go away, any ideas? Thnks, liz
Mac on January 6, 2007 5:22 PM
hey dave thanks a bunch :) lol
well liz to help with the padlock thinger...look on the side of the mp3 player...see if you can see a button it says HOLD.. push it the opposite way so that the orange dissappears...this is the hold button so you dont go pushin buttons makin it screw up or w.e lol...hope this helps you...
Don - to charge the battery simply attatch it to the computer...thats it...it begins charging even wen its off...hope this helps :)
P.S: Dave...to transfer songs...you just drag and drop...simply go to where your music is located on the computer...then click and hold...dragging it into the open folder of the mp3 player...or you can just say copy and then go to where your mp3 player is located...just go into My Computer and if it doesent come up Sansa then its usually the removeable disk E...depends how its setup lol...dont ask how i dont know...but all i know is theres where it is and thats whatchya do lol...hope these help you guys :)

Ok, I feel a bit dumb for asking this, but maybe someone can give me a tip.
Being stupid I threw out the CD that came with my c200 and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make a playlist. If anyone could give me a hand it would be great. Thanks a lot.

I just can't figure out how to get songs onto the MP3 player...I'm new to this kind of thing. I have the USB set up and it's all powered up but every time i try to drag and drop I can't find the songs anywhere to transfer them.
Mac on January 7, 2007 7:18 PM
well W...maybe try to copy and then paste...
Tanis...the cd was just for the transfering of photos...i honestly dont know how to make a playlist yet...im working on that one myself too lol...but if your not transfering photos onto your mp3 player its fine...all you haev to do is drag and drop...the program that came on the cd...personally i find useless lol...hope this could be of some help...
kelvin...i think you should be covered underwarranty...i dont see why you wouldnt be...usually it comes with at least 6 months to a year doesent it?...id take it back just the same...and you should be allowed to go back and get another...i dont see why they wouldnt let you...
P.S: there is this protective film you can order and it works quite well and you can get it for multiple things like cellphones and ipods mp3 players ect...or go out and get a case...this way you wont have to worry so much about damaging your screen :)
hope i could be of some help...
P.S: Dave...i could only get downloaded babylon of the orient and partial of return of the champion...ive got one more favour to ask of...if i cant recieve them from you by transfering them off your mp3 player and send in an email or something...um...do you know the artists of each of the songs...thanks a bunch :)

You add songs using Windows Media Player. Click "rip" in WMP to rip the songs off your CD into the "library", and then click "Sync" to synchronize the songs onto the Sansa. Drag the songs you want to sync into the sync list and then start.

Thanks anyway! Now I'll try to hook up this lanyard with the one loose end!

Ok to make a playlist (or go list in this case), go to play all and then to add the songs you want you need to hold down the large silver button. I think you can only make one list at a time though, which kinda sucks. Oh well. Hope this helps some.

To Omer (Jan22,07) Re: Unit won't turn off
Press the on button and hold for a few seconds it should shut down, my player did the same thing but froze in the middle of switching songs (low battery I thinK). I guess it's like a reset.
To Mac (Jan 7,07) Re: Original Sansa Songs
I could see if I could copy them from my player to the computer and e-mail the original songs to you. I am not sure if the size of the files would be to big. I will also take a look at who the artist are...that might help to know.

I got one of these for christmas. I loved using it for all of 3 days, at which point music simply stopped playing out of the left ear piece (no, it wasn't my headphones, i tried it with 4 different pairs, all of which worked fine in other situations). So, i went down to BestBuy and returned it and got a new one, which also worked for about 3 days, until it simply refused to start up. It would show that stupid little monster thing that it shows in the beggining. I tried removing the battery, charging it, all that jazz, but nothing works. I also found that it was impossible to delete the !@#$ty songs that came with the player entirely (as in they still appeared under artist/songs/album however they wouldn't play, instead said "bad track").
All in all, i'd give this player a 1/10.
P.S. the picture quality is laughable. You can't see anything on it.
Honestly, at this point i'm thinking the only decent mp3 player out there is an Ipod, after trying so many alternatives that simply break after one or two months.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME.
I'm trying to update the firmware on my c240. I have downloaded the updater from their site and I followed the directions and when it said it was going to automatically update my player after I pressed Finished, it didn't. I am still running on the 1.00.03A firmware and I want the 1.00.06A. I have reinstalled the updater many times and have repaired it many times. When I went to the file in which I installed the updater in to open it up directly, it pops up an error saying, "Sansa Updater can only be open with Sansa Server!"
shadowulf on January 29, 2007 3:37 PM
It's the instruction booklet's fault it's so hard to open the battery cover. To open, just push the indention on the bottom (where the separation between the cover and the rest of the player is) and, while holding down hard, push towards the USB connector. It should slide right off.
I had to do this when my battery was somehow knocked off a bit and my Sansa had trouble turning or staying on. If anyone else has this problem (although it's unlikely) just remove the battery and put it back in.

Eddie, did that. In fact, I got it to work after calling the technical help and waiting for about 10 minutes for a guy who can't speak English very well to find out what my exact problem was.
I downloaded the Hebrew language pack and installed it. Turns out that it turns your Sansa into a Hebrew product. It deletes all the languages but 4. :\
Thanks for your help... but I returned my Sansa and got a Samsung that is a lot less frustrating and that is compatible with nearly every language.

Is it at all possible to make another playlist besides the Go-List If anyone knows please let me know.
Greg on February 3, 2007 1:44 AM
Wow. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I bought two of these for my parents for Christmas. They were wanting to listen to music while the excersized and thier tastes were quite different. They had such fun with them, that I bought one for myself for late nights or weekends at work. Other than having the photo issues. (but I did buy it for music and not photos) I have truely enjoyed this product. The instructions are a bit incomplete for a "beginner" mp3 player. and the battery removal is alot harder than the instructions make it out to be. But I have fun with my c250.
Oh. And I did the stupid thing with the lanyard. I removed the string, untied it, slipped it through, reinserted it and retied it. After, I did all this I had my Homer "DOH!" moment. *sighs*

PatR on February 6, 2007 1:00 PM
Wedge and others...
To get a playlist on the C240 you need to create it in WMP (or other player) first then drag the playlist to the Synch list. As the files are being synchronized you should see the playlist name listed as one of the columns. When done the playlist should be in the player.
If you want the song to be in multiple lists, synchronize a second list with the song in it. The song should show "already on device" and the new playlist will be added to the player.
Just did this and it worked great.

Here's my note: if any are having trouble uploading songs into their Sansa c250... change the USB mode from Auto to Manual.
Another thing, the battery is a hell to take off... my Sansa froze and thus far I have used every nail I posses on both hands so, I guess I should let the battery die? and then recharge it and all will be back in about 12 hours?
Seriously, I feel like paying someone to remove this battery cover thingy... any new tricks?
tck on February 11, 2007 1:57 AM
just got a c250 on sale, and spent an afternoon googling for answers (thank god I found this forum)!
I found that:
to remove the battery cover, you really have to PUSH HARD, and the cover WILL slide off (and you really need to use both thumbs, like earlier poster suggested), I scratched the cover trying to pry it off with a screwdriver;
I'm using the c250 strictly in usb mode- need to go from main menu to settings to usb and then choose (check) the MSC option...
when you attach the c250 to the computer, it'll be recognized as a usb device,
I do a lot of audio books, and found that the device will only read to 1 folder deep correctly, ie if I use sub-folders, it will only read the 1st nested sub-folder and ignore the rest;
my old rio was better...

Rachel on February 27, 2007 9:59 PM
There's a question that someone's asked here that I don't think has been answered yet. If anyone knows the answer please could they reply in good old plain english to non-computer expert.
"Whenever i transfer songs onto the device in Windows Media Player and I then go to the Music Menu onto the MP3 player to see my songs, it shows as empty, although the memory capacity has changed/gone down. They must be on there somewhere - the transfer came up as complete - so where are they?"
I can transfer photos ok using Sansa Media Converter.
PS. There is no Media File or Data File that I can see with my Sansa c240.
I have been trying to get music on this thing for 4 whole days now and am about to chuck the thing out the window!!!!

P-fresh on March 1, 2007 1:02 AM
To open the battery you've got slide the back cover off. This sounds easy but to do it is an absolute pain. There's really no need to take the battery out though, unless you want to replace it. You can find the specs online and you can charge it through the usb port (or a AC - USB adaptor/charger which you can get from electronics stores or online). But if you need to go ahead and take it off then good luck; you're in for some fun.
P-Fresh on March 1, 2007 1:17 AM
For those out there considering buying the sansa C series: I've had my Sansa c250 for about 2 weeks now and I'm pretty happy with it. Good user interface, fast file transfer rate (well, compared to my mobile phone anyway) & good sound quality. Drag and drop function is sweet. I also wanted to avoid i-pod's annoying i-tunes copy protection software (because I like to share files), and Sansa works for that. Its also sweet using a flash drive instead of a fragile hard drive - I wanted something quick/easy I could bash around when exercising or whatever, so this is perfect. Only annoyance is it doesn't come with AC-charger (uses USB) but you can buy this seperately anyway. The user interface also does take some getting used to. There are similar accessories to the i-pod so it is fairly convenient if you want to set up car audio/charging too (there's a few articles about it on this site). Overall, for the lower range, it seems to do the trick nicely.

Hi I just bought sansa c 250 and this is my first time to recharge it. I just want to know how long will it take time to recharge as it's been more than 8 hours but it's still running. Thanks

Has anyone tried listening to music while connected to a USB port? I'd like to listen to the tunes on my c250 while the battery charges...
ExRio on March 11, 2007 8:58 AM
Hi Steve
I wanted to do the same thing until I realized since the laptop was open I could just plug the headphones in there....DUH! Couldn't believe I didn't think of it sooner....just passing on my thought process.

My daughter let her friend plug in a chip from her chocolate phone and now the sansa has all the songs from the phone and it took up all of the memory not allowing them to be played. How do we delete these since the computer won't recognize anything? Please Help!
Stephanie on March 13, 2007 8:53 PM
Goodness... all these questions. I just got my Sansa c250... and I like it, I just wish taking songs off was as easy as putting them on.. The Big question here is the one that hasn't been answered...
How do you take songs off this thing? It only showed the open space on it.. not the space already taken up.

I'm on my second Sansa C200 and the thing is awesome except for one problem as juggleinggenius stated his Left earphone wouldn't work. I've foud the problem, the earphone jack is POORLY DESIGNED and if you use headphones with a different style plug and/ or you it too violently the jack will brake and you should be able to get sound out of the left ear only if you wiggle the plug untill you find the spot that it works at and hold it there. As I was useing mine today I have a set of 1972 Pioneer SE-405 headphones that needs a plug size reducer to work with the sansa and it accedentally dropped on the floor and now my second Sansas earphone jack is done for (i hope its still under warrenty) and before i both of my Sansa C200 I had an M200 which was awesome although it was a base model it was reliable. The 2 (princesses)~exagerateing in that they are spoiled brats~ that I get on the bus in the morning with ganged up against me and one of them through my M200 on the ground and it blew open yet when i put it back together and turned it on it played just fine. as for the C200 even dropping it on the ground breaks them
As for some of you:
Landyards are EASY to put on (a Kindergardener can do it).
and the battery packs areeasy to remove just use more force
after the first time off they come off easier

I have my SanDisk Sansa c200 for about 3 months now and it was a gift my girlfriend gave me because I been wanted a mp3 player. It sucks because I can't see the screen when I turn it on but I can listen to my music and when I turn it off the screen seems like it's on. I hear that if you leave in the cold the screen light cracks. This sucks big time because I have it for 3 months now and the screen doesnt want to come on only if you have very light sunshine on it you can barely see the menu screen. I need help.

Gis Bun on March 21, 2007 4:45 PM
First. People. Instead of b?tching here about the bad documention and a lack of a decent FAQ on the site - COMPLAIN! I did. If 100 people complain, they I hope will take notice.
I've officially had the C240 for about 2 hours now and I figured a few things without the manual.
Charging requires you hooking the player to the PC via the USB port. The two must be on. Unfortunately, it doesn't say for how long a full charge requires. The battery is suppost to be good for 15 hours. I hope it doesn't take 15 hours to charge!
Depending on your mode MSC or MTP will depend on what you are to hear and see. If you thought you had 40 songs but now nothing, you switched modes. Stick with one mode. I'm using MSC.
To delete songs in Windows, click on the the drive in My Computer for the internal flash drive. Click on the Music folder and your music should be there. You can copy MP3s and delete them as if you were using your hard disk.
It seems that if you don't use the playlist and you dump all your songs in one folder, it sequences by the title of the song as stated in the MP3 ID tags. I could still be wrong here. :-)
If you are using it in MSC mode, your MP3 player will act like a USB key/drive. In MTP mode, you get a different view - but this view also tells you [in Windows] the battery life.
My only comment so far is that if you are listening to a song and you see the ID tags, how do you stop it from playing? Only thing I can see is pressing the menu button until the whole thing shuts off.

For any complaints about the documentation, send them to retailsales@sandisk.com - but be nice. This ain't a tech support address!

Hi, can anyone help me!?
My Sansa c200 froze on me! I put it in my pocket and forgot to put the hold....so I guess too many buttons made it freeze? I dunno. But would removing the battery and putting it back work? How do I do that by the way? The user guide is very generic on how to remove the battery, and I don't want to ruin the player.

I got so pissed off after trying to use this thing I returned it. Why?
1) No documentation
2) Proprietary USB cable
3) Proprietary battery
4) Crappy support
5) Other weird stuff.
Two days later I bought an RCA Lyra. Documentation on the CD or the web site. An auto update that works. Standard USB mini-A to B cable [I use the same cable for my webcam as the Lyra and my Harmony remote]. A single AAA battery. Most are expandable (I didn't get that one as I didn't need it).
As well, it came with a belt clip (and depending on the model, an arm band). You can play music by genre, title, artist, etc.
In MSC mode, it's as sinle as dragging and dropping the pictures or songs into their respective media.
On my 512 MB I dumped on over 8 hours of music at near CD quality. How? Lyras are one of the few that will play mp3Pro MP3s. They're all at 96 kbps and sound as good or better than 192 kbps of a normal MP3 song.
Mine even has ear bud headphones with clips so they stay on. First time ever that I don't need pads.

Can someone tell me what software is used for the sansa 200 to add song to it?
Pat on March 26, 2007 11:46 PM
I just got my Sansa c240 today and I can't access the menu.
The Welcome window comes on, then "Musique" (French,eh? lol) screen... and no matter where I touch, it only shows the options for the five preloaded songs and goes ahead and plays them.
When I connect it to the computer, it is only visible in Media Player. It is listed in the Device Manager but does not show up in My Computer.
I was able to add songs without any problem from Media Player. Rather a waste of time though, since I cannot access them! or change the language, mode, etc.. the only thing it will do is show the french "Musique" title then play the five songs. I went into media player and deleted those..my songs are still listed as being on the player but I cannot get to them even after deleting the preloads.
I guess I will take a trip to Future Shop in the morning. Oh, I was also able to add a photo. Can't get to it, but it is there apparently..lol.
Nice little device though, and I am excited to get a working one.
I did try removing the battery, and other little tricks but to no avail.
Oh, about removing the battery. If you flip it over and use both thumbs..one on the top of the panel, one at the bottom..and press down with the top thumb (not even that hard)....then push the whole panel towards the bottom using both thumbs, it just slides right off..

ok, today I recieved a c250 but it is not for me since I already have a m250
anyway... I managed to open the battery using a screwdriver and carefully pushing and running it around the line from where it should open and after that , it was very easy. if u dont do this, you will have problems in opening the cap... mine was glued I think (X
// I used a 1.4 m/m precision screwdriver
in order to erase pics and mp3-s, u have to connect it to the computer and do that from there
transfering is very easy, although i did not managed to use the playlist option, wich i think its the best, still working on it...
btw, u charge the battery via USB
I dont think u should experience problems if it is not already broken from the fabric
I hope it is not as fragile as people say
it happened to freeze but if you remove the battery and put it back, it's ok
you can change the language and the time before light out and the brightness from settings
HOPE THIS HELPS, and if you find out more, do not hesitate to let me know :D,,, sorry for my bad english
tee on April 20, 2007 11:41 PM
how do you change the language?? I've somehow got German on here and I can't see how to change?? help!!
