Samsung YP-T9 (Bluetooth Optional)
The last time we talked about the Samsung YP-T9 was when it made its debut on the FCC filings website. Fast forward a few months and the T9 and its Bluetooth-enabled T9B brother, in all their phone-looking glory, have officially been released in China.
Since the FCC is such a spoiler site, there aren't any real suprises in the specs department. The 4GB players feature a 1.8-inch display, support MP3/WMA/OGG audio and MPEG-4/WMV/AVI/ASF video files, and include a handful of preinstalled, unnamed flash games. Samsung is sticking to its FCC claim that the nonremovable li-ion packs enough juice for 30 hours of music playback and has modified its video playback time to 6 hours. Impressive indeed.
Even though our Chinese pals already have their hands on the YP-T9(B), we still can't find any info on pricing or whether/when we'll see the players in the U.S.

This is a damn polished looking player.. and halted my plans to pick up a K5... hope this little beauty comes out stateside... very sexy.... specs look very nice indeed.
The DAP/PMP landscape has been changing fast, the last week or so.....
Fooms on September 18, 2006 5:29 PM
Now if only they'd enable video playback on the Z5..
Jenn on September 18, 2006 6:03 PM
I agree, Utew. Samsung is coming out with some pretty sleek looking stuff. This one does look sweet, but I like the K5 better. I thought the K5 was supposed to ship earlier this month, but Amazon is only taking preorders right now.
Utew on September 18, 2006 8:50 PM
Jenn, The K5 is available in store.. at Best Buy.. it came out amazingly fast. The K5 with video and a slightly better price would push me over the edge.. as it is, I may still pick one up. But this new T9 is gorgeous and has my attention now.... fickle human am I... ;-)
Almoxil on September 19, 2006 3:30 PM
Yeah... as Utew said, it's a damn sexy player. I've been looking for buying a Z5 sometime near Christmas, but now I'm considering waiting for this little baby.
Utew on September 19, 2006 7:56 PM
Well.... I picked up a Z5 4gb today.. couldn't help myself. All I did was touch it and the money just popped out of my wallet.
Damn neat little player, very nice sound.. no custom EQ and no album art. Much smaller than I expected and the speakers sound ok.. no bass, but that's to be expected.. pretty cool overall.. But I might just snag a T9 too, if it becomes available. Samsung is learning this game very fast....
Utew on September 19, 2006 7:58 PM
Oops, make that a K5.. not a Z5... I must have Z5 on the brain....
Jenn on September 20, 2006 7:59 PM
Congrats, Utew! I would've replied sooner but I had to deal with the green monster first :) I think I'm going to have to go the Amazon route because last I checked, Best Buy in Hawaii didn't carry the K5. And free shipping and no tax are hard to beat, even if it means I have to wait months.
I'm really impressed with Samsung. I didn't really give them a second thought before, but now I think they're becoming quite the contender.
Skewy on October 8, 2006 4:10 AM
They still can't come out with a player with a standard AA battery and elaspsed time in HH:MM:SS. Actually they had one bvut discontinued it.
k on October 9, 2006 8:01 PM
bestbuy has t9 now but without bluetooth i think. 149 for 2gb and 199 for 4gb. i would get this over an ipod. i don't know if i should get a 2 gb yp-u2 or a 2 gb yp-t9..
kim on October 10, 2006 1:22 PM
what do you have bluetooth to??
k on October 16, 2006 10:57 PM
ok i just ordered a 2gb t9 but i haven't recieved yet. I wish it ccame with bluetooth (asian version has bluetooth!) so you can listen to music w/o annoying wires. I heard you can also answer your phone with the mp3 player(not now but later in the future w/ firmware upgrades).
LD on November 14, 2006 6:23 PM
Just bought the T9 2gb and am very impressed - the voice recorder has 4 bitrate options and picks up with great clarity (I used it for a chorus rehearsal)
Easy and fast to upload music - video instantly converts to svi format. Not a fan of earbuds which come standard. charges directly from usb connection from PC or laptop.
Was disappointed that the US doesn't have the Bluetooth option yet (we are always behind the times...)
Wojy on November 20, 2006 4:45 PM
Not a bad price, it's under $200 from buy.com
If it had Bluetooth then i'll be sold compleatly. I might just go ahead and buy this media player as the first one in 3 years.
JS on November 21, 2006 10:48 PM
Trying to decide between a YP-T9 and Sansa e200R series to replace my Cowon iAudio 5 player (what a disappointment). Any thoughts between the two? The Samsung feels better in the hand but the Sansa seems more complete.
CabrOn on November 23, 2006 4:08 PM
I don't Understand, are all of them bluetooth Enabled?
I want this player, but i want the bluetooth version!
!!!!!where can it be purchased!!?!
CABRON on November 23, 2006 4:10 PM

Martin on November 27, 2006 2:57 PM
The bluetooth one is the YP-T9B, and don't seems available in America right now. It also not clear if its bluethooth is just for BT headsets or if you can transfert files over it...
Ridoe on November 30, 2006 12:11 PM
The bluetooth one is available in Europe so far as I know. Does anyone know if this bluetooth version supports A2DP profile? I can't find it anywhere?
yiorgos on December 4, 2006 3:28 AM
I 've bought it although I live in Greece and not in China.
Pros(+)
beautiful
a2dp profile
folder browsing
smaller than it looks
album art
videos
Cons(-)
didn't include any bluetooth headset so I had to buy an extra pair
the battery does NOT long for 30 hours play (20-25 max)
the bluetooth headset is not supported for radio and video operation
the supporting software is problematic
But i am happy i sold my ipod for it
Kai on December 6, 2006 12:09 PM
dude where did you buy one with bluetooth from? if you don't live in china.
please help me as i really want one.
Mike on December 21, 2006 1:18 AM
how do i know which one model has the bluetooth feature?
Aditya on December 24, 2006 10:35 AM
hey i got the t9 (without bluetooth) last week. Its awesome. The transfer rate is good. It has an amazing display...playing video clips is more fun now!! BUT, its started acting up. Today, suddenly without any warning or any other sign, the t9 just went dead ( it was fully charged!!) . It refused to start. When i hooked it up to my pc, in hope that it would start charging and show some sign of life, but nothing. A couple of hours later i just reset it manually, and the t9 sprung to life again. I feel something's wrong with it...HELP!!
Pete on December 30, 2006 2:13 AM
Quick question. Do any MP3 players pick up AM radio stations? I just got T9, but I haven't taken it out of the box yet. One of the main reasons I got it over a Nano is that it has the FM tuner on it, but I just realized that the main station I listen to (to/from work) is an AM station.
Hmm....please let me know.
BquamB on January 8, 2007 10:53 PM
ust a quicky, What type of warrante dose it have, Dose this puppy sound good, and how easy is it 2 put music on / video / photos onto the player?
Rachele on February 1, 2007 9:37 AM
I just got the T9, was wondering if anyone knows how to add/delete games on this thing?? It comes with 2 games already, but I'd like to add Texas Hold'Em if I can.
Paul on February 28, 2007 12:41 AM
Rachele, I don't think that extra games are addable, despite advertising :\ I read somewhere that Adobe/Macromedia's sites go over the fact that the t9's games are "embedded" or some such . Correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway... does anybody have some suggestions for earbuds that are fairly low-priced yet improved the sound quality? I want to bring out the most in the player without absolutely killing my wallet. I'm a pretty casual listener but I have a sharp ear for cymbals, and the included earbuds just aren't cutting it.
Marc on May 27, 2007 1:28 PM
Same question over here.
Chad on June 3, 2007 1:54 PM
^so you can you or cant you add games onto it?
i think im going to buy one of these
Matty on June 9, 2007 2:19 AM
I got my Samsung YP-T9 off of Amazon mines a 4GB i got it for £100 and it has bluetooth in it. i'm well impressed, its sooo easy to get around on it.
Buy it off of amazon as it is £20 cheaper than buying a 2GB version from Currys.
And i Think you can put games on it but im not sure.
2 bad things, 1) it doesnt come with any bluetooth headphones so i had to buy them for £60.
2) The bluetooth function only works on bluetooth speakers and headphones, i was annoyed when i couldnt send things off my phone using bluetooth to it.
Steve on June 9, 2007 2:25 AM
I know what you mean thats a bit annoying
i looked the prices up and
Currys price Amazon Price
2GB £120 4GB £100
4GB £150
Lisa W on June 19, 2007 3:58 PM
What is the REAL playtime/battery life on the 4gb T9 (not bluetooth). The first one I bought only lasted 5 1/2 hours and the second one is lasting 13 hours. The manual states 30 hours play time....but what is the real truth?
nate on June 24, 2007 3:15 PM

Re Nate, Kev:
As of 7/2/07, neither the Futureshop.ca or Bestbuy.ca websites say they the 8GB bersion of the YP-T9 -- with or without bluetooth.
Has someone seen this player (the 8GB version) in any of the stores in Ontario? How much are they selling it for?
John S. on July 8, 2007 7:09 PM
Yeah, same question. Where's the 8GB? Only thing holding me back from buying. As far as I'm concerned, it'd be the perfect player with that. (Well, more memory the better, but it should be at least as much as the competition.) Any sign of 8GB anywhere in North America?

joseph on July 15, 2007 2:36 PM
Ive talked to someone at Samsung. They don't plan on releasing the bluetooth version of the t9. Gave me a very lousy excuse that it would not be marketable.....
dan on July 29, 2007 10:33 PM
k guys i just got the t9 and what a friken blast. i got it at future shop for $203.00 canadian and a $30 case. its best to get it at future shop.

sofie on August 3, 2007 8:23 PM
Well, I live in Australia and bought a bluetooth version online for $170 including postage, and it WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT! it says you have to have a pin for the bluetooth and haven't quite worked that one out, but it works! This mp3 player is THE BEST! I've been thrilled with it since I opened the box! Everything is just perfect. Waayyyy better than Ipod, Ipods are so overrated!

Does any one know how to add lyrics to T9 ? I saw a demo on some website where there was "Lyrics" option below DNSe menu.
amk on September 2, 2007 3:24 AM
How to get this Lyrics menu shown in this video ?
http://www.brightcove.com/title.jsp?title=1130045001&channel=1119176984
I tried a number of shops but no one had this model with lyrics menu.
