Accessories Are No Longer Just for iPods

made-for-sansa.jpg

SanDisk has signed deals with 40 companies to produce accessories for the Sansa line of MP3 players, according to their press release. These companies will join SanDisk’s “Made for Sansa” licensing program much like the “Made for iPod” program. The third party accessory manufacturers are already showing an impressive line up of goods found on their Made for Sansa landing pages: Macally, Altec Lansing, Griffin, and DLO to name a few. These products include a vast majority of the same types of accessories iPod owners have been enjoying for years, including several different kinds of speaker docks, chargers, FM tuners, cases, cables, headphones with built-in docks, and the list goes on.

SanDisk is moving forward in building an ecosystem for their players. I hope that other manufacturers will very soon follow suit.

thanks sannet

The logo and name is just too much like the "Made for iPod" Couldn't they have worded it differently? I actually thought this was a photoshopped logo made by ABI until I saw it was on Sandisks page.

Something like "Designed for Sansa" or something like that would have been better in my opinion.

From one non-ipod-owner to another, I have not once complained that there weren't enough accessories for non-ipods. The fact that my iAudio had everything built-in was one reason I chose it over an ipod.

Actually I kind of like the idea of a "Sansa Ecosystem" logo program.. has a nice eco-friendly ring to it.. might bring in an entire new audience.. ;-)

"Made for Sansa" = ExactlyLikeipod

And I'm not talking about just a catchphrase.

As someone once said "It's deja vu, all over again!"

SanDisk is a joke. The Sansas really do define "iPod Clone." They do so little to differentiate themselves from the iPod as it is, this "ecosystem" program makes it even worse. All SanDisk is doing is trying to make a quick buck from parents who don't want to spend money to buy one of dem newfangled iPods for their kids and from "rebellious" users who want to be "different." And here I thought Creative was bad.

And for the record, I am not an iPod owner.

Dave, Either you got up on the wrong side of bed OR you haven't realized yet, that there are only so many *practical* designs that can be made with the materials at hand. PDA's are similar and before that hand-held calculators.. all in a vertical, rectangular design.

And people buying non-iPods, could... just be looking for the best player available....

What is it, that brings out the venom when something is similar to an iPod? You'd think that nothing had ever been invented before it came along....

Anyone know when these accesories will be avaiable? I own one of these players and the links to the "Made for Sansa" pages say coming soon.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
