The SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB Flash Player is “Official”

sansa-e280-back.jpg

A week or so ago we reported on the launch of an 8GB Sansa e200. This info was backed by leaked photos and IP address records in our forums. Even though SanDisk has not announced the e280 yet, they now have a photo of it on their website in an interactive 360 degree demo.

Making room for this new addition SanDisk has dropped the price on the other e200s and added a free case with purchase (psst.. you can get even cheaper from other online retailers). The e280 is predicted to debut at an MSRP of $280 just like the e270 a few months ago. However, there is no word on the official official launch.

Update: The e280 is now officially out.

in my opinion, sandisk should stop improving there flashplayers with more capacity and maybe have improve the sound on the videoplayback,or a mechanical wheel that doesnt make noise.

Lacene on July 11, 2006 9:39 AM

/\|ex, there may be an issue with the video(s) you're refering to. The .mov's of music video's and cartoons (ren & stimpy, south park) I have on my e260 are outstanding, in a few cases louder than some 192kbps tracks I have on it. The cartoons in particular are very loud.

This is just outstanding....I've only had my e260 (4GB) since the first of May, and I want to trade it in for an e280, which has twice the capacity for only about $50 more....

DLF on July 11, 2006 11:07 AM

Uh, I don't get it Lacene. What's being "louder than some 192kbps tracks" got to do with "improving the sound on video playback"? I would think the two qualities would be totally unrelated....

608zz on July 11, 2006 2:58 PM

Maybe this will make Samsung update the Z5F to 8GB. Gotta be able to play the better-sounding, smaller files of OGG.

Well, when you SanDisk lovers have had your device fail - well, maybe after the second or third time - you might be singing a different tune. I was an early SanDisk adopter - I'm now on my third player (two warranty replacements) and now the headphones on the most recent replacement (Jan 2006) just failed. Sigh. Good thing that I have a couple of spares!

juanito on July 11, 2006 4:00 PM

giorgitd are you talking about the newer E200 series players or the older sandisk players which had problems? because i have heard nothing but positive stuff about the e200 series no matter where i have looked.

giomtfwad on July 11, 2006 4:34 PM

Good company, but probably worse than an iPod. Seriously, they need to rework their players. Lancecn: Volume and Bit Rate are completely unrelated.

Lacene on July 11, 2006 5:22 PM

DLF & giomthfgue, I meant to say "louder and clearer" than some 192kbps tracks......ie. my point: the audio quality of the video conversions were outstanding. I guess I should've asked what /\|ex meant when he/she said "improve the [sound] on the videoplayback", as usually I interpret improving sound to be improving the volume, but it could also mean improving the overall quality of the audio. But my point still remains.

@giorgitd: "Well, when you SanDisk lovers have had your device fail - well, maybe after the second or third time - you might be singing a different tune." Who's the SanDisk lover?? I don't know if I'd have the patience to try a player three times. There's no option for a refund??

Sandisk needs to really make their players more reliable if they expect people to buy this and keep it. Many of the comments posted on this site under the Sansa e200 series review talked of many issues that people had with this player. Also, they all seemed to have their own individual issues with the player. I know someone whose player was downloading "viruses" off of the internet automatically, and mine had a memory issue a week into owning it. Sorry Sandisk, but my devotion now rests with iriver. (The clix is incredible).

slaughterMYdaughter on July 16, 2006 10:48 PM

i know for sure that /\le)( isnt talking about it being loud but the video sound is somewhat muffled.this is the the ONLY downside i have with my player.other then that its almost perfect.

Today i discover a masiv price-reduction of the 2GB-Version at amazon.de. May be, this is a hint, the 8-GB-Version is near at all.

gabe on August 14, 2006 11:42 AM

i farted.
i bought a e250 for my friend. she loves it, and has no problem using it. I wanted to give her something expandable, because in 3 years adding a 2gig mem card will be like gold.

Liam on August 21, 2006 4:43 PM

If it plays .aac, I'll buy it. 70% of the mp3 player-buying public uses an iPod, and they won't want to convert thier entire library to buy this. Looks wonderful but for that.

Tom on August 22, 2006 12:00 PM

I've got the e260. I LOVE it. I wish you could play "all songs" sorted by artist, but other than that it's the best deal out there with all the features you get.
I would recomment upgrading the earbuds though. Nothing fancy, I got a $50 pair of Sony's and am perfectly happy. No issues to date and have had this for 4 months.

From reading all the reviews about the Sandisk sansa e200 series mp3 players I only have one question. If you do not have a usb connector for the sansa e200 series can you use the usb connector for the Ipod with a sandisk sansa 260?

e280 OK w/Me on March 2, 2007 11:11 AM

Brad,
Try to disconnect and hook the player up again. It may have been plugged in early.

kristy on March 5, 2007 8:08 PM

I loved my Sansa e200 that I bought on Boxing Day until it crashed a few weeks later.. My computer wouldn't detect it, and would go into a blue fuzzy screen shortly after I would turn it on when it was in the 'updating data' process. So I took it back, they replaced it, and now this one is doing it, too. I suspect I have downloaded a song with some sort of virus in it. Is that possible? Anyone know if this is fixable? I'm so sad. I really want it to work. :(

Tessa on March 8, 2007 6:59 PM

mine just did that too!! I pluged it in and it kept getting disconnected somehow and then it went blue and fuzzy and i don't know how to make it stop!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Im so MAD!

kim on March 12, 2007 8:13 PM

ok there is a number you can call they are really nice and walk you through everything.you can find it on the sansa website under contact us!

Dude- My Video Just Keeps Fizzing out and whenever I try to delete the foriegn files that spontaneously show up, The Goddamn thing shuts down or freezes!!!!!!!!!!

Eric on April 30, 2007 7:23 AM

Have mine for 3 days, if I change the songs too quickly, it craches and reboots. Arghhhhhhhhh!

Drewopolis on May 8, 2007 6:47 PM

yeah mine freezes constantly...and its frustrating that there's no driver anywhere for older operating systems

Lynette on September 27, 2007 5:18 PM

I love and hate the thing.
It always freezes, and
won't play any videos all the way through. (it starts them for a split second, then cuts it off. It makes some songs not play, and put it within 3 feet of a magnetic applaince and it screws up.

saira on January 12, 2008 1:31 PM

    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 has been gaining quite a following lately and rightfully so. If you are looking for something well designed, innovative, and feature packed; you should look into this full touch screen wonder. The Bluetooth feature set is what I find to be the most intriguing, with the ability to tether to your phone to make calls or wirelessly transfer with no restrictions to other P2s. Check out the review or stop by our ever growing P2 forums to get the latest info.

  • Toshiba Gigabeat T400
    toshiba gigabeat t400

The Gigabeat T400 is without a doubt my favorite flash player at the moment. It does have one major setback in that it only comes in a 4GB, shame on you Toshiba. What makes me love this player is it's ultra slick sexy design, very easy- just pick up and use interface, and killer sound quality that would make Cowon users envious. This player is a must buy for anyone who sports a premium set of headphones. Full review to come but you should really just buy one.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • JAYS q-JAYS
    JAYS q-JAYS

The q-JAYS are great in ear phones. They offer excellent clarity, silky treble, realistic midrange, and a nice bass response. They're comfortable, incredibly tiny, and come with a huge selection of accessories. While they certainly are analytic phones, they're still fun to listen to. The q-JAYS respond well to EQing, and can be tweaked to fit almost anyone's sound preference. Recommended for anyone owning a good sounding player and well encoded audio files.
