4GB iriver clix Coming Next Week?

iriver-clix-4gb.jpg

Update: Now available at Amazon

So, a guy walks into a bar Best Buy. He is looking for the iriver clix and asks one of those blue shirt helper guys where they are. The man points but deals a bit of other helpful information. He continues to tell the clix seeking man that they will be getting in the 4GB clix next week for $250 MSRP. Nano who?

The clix is a very cool device and the 4 gigs sweetens the deal, even though we have a fingers crossed for 6 and 8GB, but let’s not get greedy. I encourage everyone to check it out if they are in the market for a flash player. You may also want to check out the clix review I did not too long ago.

This first person account of this Best Buy incident account was passed on to us by forum member mincho. Thanks!

Slick... just what it needs to compete.. bump it to 8 GB flash or make it a micro-drive and this little jewel would make some in-roads...

asdf on July 26, 2006 3:22 AM

This and the E10 are iRiver's best devices. This is the one that iRiver should be concentrating on to beat the iSheep. Not those tiny tiny ones, nor the rumoured ones.

sideshowtob on July 26, 2006 4:56 AM

Fingers crossed for a European release date also! :)

Michael on July 26, 2006 5:18 AM

It won't be released anywhere but America. Also, it might be my OCD, but you spelled Coming wrong and it's bothering me :P

sideshowtob on July 26, 2006 5:33 AM

Do you have link that backs the non-release outside of America claim? I just want some concrete proof before I try and get one imported into the UK. Thanks!

osirus35 on July 26, 2006 12:43 PM

I only wished that the clix had a 30fps video playback instead of 15. other then that this player rocks

Louis on July 26, 2006 3:44 PM

Same price, same storage, bigger heavier device... The only advantage I can see is the ability to play video at 15fps?

Is that why we are championing the Clix? Because it plays video poorly on it's 2.2" display?

Jay Fisher on July 26, 2006 4:45 PM

This must be the most secret release ever (but a Best Buy minimum wage lackey is privvy to a corporate secret??). No SKU for best buy, no press release or product showing in any trade show, no links or manuals on the manufacturer website... Plus Samsung charges other manufacturers twice for flash RAM the deal they gave to Apple. I'm not holding my breath...

Jay Fisher on July 26, 2006 4:46 PM

30 day return policy...

mincho on July 26, 2006 5:48 PM

Yeah...I'm the one that got the news, I'm famous lol.
But I'm not sure, and I got the clix and a 30 giftcard for free when i bought so just 30 more $ and I get the 4GB I hope.

Contro on July 26, 2006 6:42 PM

i bought a clix on 7/9/06 just got my accessory protection kit for the clix the clix i have acquired smudges already was gonna return it today but... gonna return it before 8/8/06 and if what this article says is true then i am gonna pick up the 4GB one instead
WOOT! This site rocks

osirus35 on July 26, 2006 8:24 PM

another thing. the players msrp is 250 dollars. Compared to other players with the same memory this is pretty high. To top it off you can pay 50 dollars more for a vision m with a 30gb hard drive. Dont get me wrong, the player is great but its a little pricey.

dix on July 26, 2006 9:23 PM

osirus35 apple sells the nano for $250 MSRP lol 15fps is FINE The people that say that have never even tried it, there is NO LAG.

Chris on July 27, 2006 12:46 AM

I'm waiting to see if its true, and if they will bundle it with the dock for a better price. Otherwise I might just get a Vision M.

pipo on July 27, 2006 3:16 AM

Guess what guys all said... how does this beat the Meizu? It plays at 18fps, isn't bulky, costs less and is very much value for your money...

So guess what just buy a Meizu

Ever consider why a DAP is called a DAP? It's called a DAP because it's made to play audio first.

The Clix is widely considered to have superior sound quality (silky smooth, crystal clear) compared to those "other" flash players, and sports a very impressive and beautiful GUI to boot. There's reasons why it was considered a great 2GB DAP to begin with. A 4GB capacity makes it a no-brainer over other DAPs. Sound quality and navigation are simply superior, 'nuff said.

ed-dot on July 27, 2006 5:27 PM

crap, i just bought a meizu to replace my U10. not fair.

WTF the clix isn't bulky, at first beafore I got it I thought it was kinda big not that big even when i got the box it came in i thought it was still ganna be like 1/2 the size of the PSP, then when I opened it holy crap!!!
I was like WOW its so small and sexy it fits in your palm of your hand.
the only thing that I kinda got pissed of about is that there was no way to conver youir viodeos out of the box :|, but Iriviter is great for convertig so no big problem but damn its so sexy and the case reimnds me of my PSP :P, glad it also came with the litle cleaning on the case, u can take it of BTW but i wouldn't cuz ill just lose it :P
HOPING THE 4GB Comes out :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Dave McLauchlan (MSFT) on July 28, 2006 2:56 AM

Sorry guys - this report is inaccurate. There is no imminent release planned of a 4GB iriver Clix. While a hotly desired feature (4GB instead of 2GB), there is no plan to release such a product next week.

Cheers, Dave.

Just looked at the IRiverAmerica eStore at:

https://secure5.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=iriver&BusType=BtoC&Count1=132503688&Count2=49644112

They just posted the 4GB for Pre-Order sales with a ship date of November 21.

Amplificator on December 2, 2006 8:46 PM

Skobbolop: It will, and some stores already have it.

I got contacted by HiFi-Klubben last week that they just recieved both the Clix 2GB and 4GB and they will be sending me a Clix 4GB which I'll recieve on monday.

The prices are not posted on their website (neither is the product) and isn't in the stores yet, but the price for the 2GB will be 1590 kr. and the 4GB will be 1990 kr.

Check www.hifiklubben.dk for updates - it will probably be on their site by next week.

I like everything about this player except that the battery life isn't what I expected. 25 hours doesn't seem realistic as so much battery power is taken by the screen (superb quality). Since I like to scroll a lot and jump songs the screen is activated a lot of the time which reduces my batterylife. Combine that with a little video en it lasts just 2 days (without constantly playing), not such a big deal really but my former Iriver lasted 40 hours (about a week without charging) so I have to adjust.
Besides that this player rocks and I don't believe that the ipod lasts longer playing video and music.

    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
