Zen Vision: M Premium Leather Case By Vaja

vaja-leather-zen-vision-m.jpg

A leather case for your MP3 player is a very good investment, considering that you are protecting a $300+ piece of hardware. Sure, there are plenty of leather cases available but they never seem to fit the player correctly and just feel cheap.

If you like nice things and are looking for a quality case for your Zen Vision:M, then the Vaja i-Volution Surya case is for you. This case is hand crafted out of high quality leather, and is totally customizable with your choice of 33 different colors or 1,089 color combinations of leather.

I know this intro sounds like an advertisement, but the truth is, I cannot be more pleased with this case. Read on for more pics and thoughts on the Vaja case.

Build Quality

For quality comparison, I would hold it to the same standards as premium leather brands like Coach. It fits snuggly on the player, giving it more of a solid feel.

Options Options Options

Since the cases are hand made to order, you can choose one of 33 different colors and several different customization options. In the case of the Zen Vision:M leather case you can choose two different colors, one for the top and one for the bottom. The other customization options include three different clip options, custom lettering, and custom graphics.

Rivet Clip System

The Rivet Clip provides many mounting options for the ZVM. This clip system is composed of three different parts: The pin (attached to the case), the quick release Rivet Clip, and several options of mounting plates. These options include a belt clip, a dash plate- for mounting in your car, a fabric plate- for mounting in your backpack, and a hook plate. All of these plates can easily be interchanged by squeezing the release mechanism on the side. This will release the Rivet Clip from the plate.

Clipping your ZVM to the Rivet Clip is done by simply sliding it into the top. It is very secure but can easily be unattached by pressing the bottom button, releasing the player.

Pricing

The price starts at $70 and is an additional $20 for the Rivet clip system.

Conclusion

If you care about keeping your player in good condition, and if you like well made products, then you should consider this case. $70 may seem like a lot of money, but it is worth every penny. With this Vaja case you are not paying for a brand name, you are paying for a high quality, hand crafted leather accessory for your Zen Vision:M

[Vaja - Select from popular 24 color combinations]
[Vaja Choice - Totally customizable with up to 1,089 color combinations]

Vaja Classic Leather Case

If you dont like the style of the i-Volution Surya leather case, Vaja will be releasing thier "classic" leather case for the Zen Vision:M next month. I am sure you can expect the same quality from the classic version as well.

70 dollars, the player isn't even fully protected????

cornelius.m on June 18, 2006 11:09 AM

yeah that's what i was thinking.. it'd feel more complete if it at least also covered the tactile buttons somehow (transparent film? i dunno.. speaking of which I can see bottom half InvisibleShield/bestskinever and outer vaja as a decent possible protection combo). the whole face of the vision:m scratches easily; it appears the vaja only cares for the top (admittedly, more important considering the screen estate) half.

also, i'm personally not diggin' the color combos options. imo the best look for them would be a solid, matching combination that also matches the color of the player (i.e. white/white combo for white player face, black/black combo for black player face, etc.)

Almoxil on June 18, 2006 12:34 PM

Yes, roger767, I also think that case from Vaja lacks protection for the touchpad. I'd prefer a flip-top case (like the ones from Capdase) that isn't as fancy as the Vaja ones, but yields a higher degree of protection for the player.

When I bought my Zen Micro I was looking for a case to protect it too, but I couldn't buy anything from Vaja -- they didn't ship to Brazil. So, I started looking for other brands and found Capdase. They have some nice cases there, and they're leather made as well. I couldn't buy anything better for my Zen Micro. I've had it for almost one year and a half, and the player doesn't show a single scratch. They also have a case for the Zen Vision:M I think it's worth taking a look.

retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (the case, not the other people who have commented :P)

Lacene on June 19, 2006 12:11 AM

It's reported at epizenter.net that Vaja will also provide a ZVM case from their "Classic" lineup, soon. I believe that case should provide a more complete coverage.

mark on June 19, 2006 9:49 AM

I was wondering if these cases are inflatable because they are awful "puffy" (just kidding of course). I wasted a lot of money on one for my iPod about a year ago (horrors! an iPod user who also uses a ZVM). They are so FAT. Fat on fat = Really freakin' fat. That's what you'll get with one of these. The physical quality is top-notch, however.

Michael on June 20, 2006 5:27 PM

Yep you're right Lacene, the classic case will be shown at Vaja in about a week. I've also provided a pretty in-depth look at this vaja case at epizenter, which you can see here: http://www.epizenter.net/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.16

@Lacene
I added a picture of the Vaja Classic.

Plus if you visit their website, specifically this page: http://www.vajacases.com/Vaja/catalogo.nsf/SelProdsEN/bcr061ik_1

you will notive some of the specs are in red, namely that you can not sync or charge with the case on. That is the part I don't like. I would get frustrated with always having to remove the case just to charge the darn thing!!

MMAdojo on June 23, 2006 12:44 PM

Don't get me wrong, not like it is hard to just slide it out the top with the case's open top design, but still. For me, the perfect case would include better all-over coverage and functionality such as being able to do everything without movement or modification to the case.

ebay. as cheap (quality AND price) as some of the stuff may be there, i found a nice leather case that i won for a penny but then paid $16.99 shipping. yeah they gig you on the shipping but it's hard to complain with the quality of the case and it's the overall cost that matters anyway. it actually feels like decent quality leather and the inside is soft. my vision m is about 2 months old now and barely has any of the tiniest faint hairline scratches on it which says alot for the case because the player is ALWAYS with me. i take it out usually once a week to wipe it down and remove any accumilated dust and dirt in the nooks and crannies but this case really protects the hell out of it. it has a sewn in screen protector too which was a plus. here's a number for a current auction for the sam case i won. i just wish there was a nice metal clamshell type case available for these like i had for my ipod before i wised up and sold it. THAT was a nice case with neoprene cushioning it it. hope this helps.

I just bought a DLO action jacket, but i was hesitating at first. This case looks kinda odd, and out of place, but i think theres no screen protector on it, just a puffy pillow around the screen lol.

I just exchanged my ZVM because of a scratch (bestbuy warranty, go figure)

and i decided to pick up the DLO case. I think it is the best case out there right now, because it is truly "form fitting", and the material is super high quality. It also covers the screen, and keeps the player as slim as possible. $30 was a high investment for me, but it is 110% worth it. It keeps the player slim, unlike my cheap Kroo case i bought for $18. Dont skim around when it comes to protection :D

quiksliver on August 2, 2006 11:24 AM

no offense but thats a pretty fugly casing...

eric on August 29, 2006 12:50 PM

Very poor design, but good craftmenship. Do not waste your money. It is
not easy to get the device out of the case and it is needed everytime you need to charge and download.

Hey ..love the new site!!! Keep up the good work. I'll send you text sometime. If you're home at any time we'll have to meet up for a pint in the Crown again. Have a good one

Ang on December 11, 2006 10:35 PM

all the cases i've seen for this player are ugly and bulky and scratch the player, i have a BSE but i want an actual case.

Apple-Maggot on December 11, 2006 10:59 PM

Uhhh... I gotta say that coasts way to much and why would you buy that when for 5 dollars more you can buy a bad ass YoTank that you could probibably kill someone with... Althoe one thing that holds me back from getting a YoTank is not knowing if the inside protects the player from scratches... That aluminum may scratch the player O_O

To Apple-Maggot:
There is material inside the YoTank that protects the player from the aluminium and I completely agree with everyone about the design. I wonder who's idea that was...

I have the official Creative Silicone skin, I can't fault it in any way. It makes it nice and comfortable to hold (soft rubber feel, and gives a good grip). I would have preferred the bluey coloured one, but the transparent is just as nice.

If you can afford it, the accessory pack is well worth the money. With the AC adapter, Skin, Screen Protector (my vision appears to have shipped with one fitted?), AV cable and decent headphones (I still have my faithful in-ear Sony MDR-EX71 and Sennheisers when it really matters) it can't be faulted for value for money.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
