SanDisk Sansa e280 First 8GB Flash Player

sandisk-sansa-e280.jpg

A photo of the e280 player has surfaced in the SanDisk Sansa forums posted by someone deep within SanDisk’s Virginia based lab. (Thanks ARIN WHOIS database!) Either SanDisk is purposely leaking info or someone didn’t get the memo about posting images of beta wares to forums.

The e280 also has the ability to add another 1GB of memory via the microSD slot bringing it to 9GB total of flash memory goodness. More gigabytes? How can we argue with that?

Before you get too excited the e280 is still beta and only exists within the confines of SanDisk’s campus. There is no word on when this player will materialize on store shelves, but I would guess they are waiting for a drop in flash memory prices.

Update: The e280 is now officially out.

How come they don't have any killer accessories for the Sansa. That's my one gripe. Now that they have rechargeable batteries, they should offer a car charger accessory and a car charger & fm transmitter or aux out with amplifier like I could get for an Ipod

That would make the Sansa a true Nano killer.

Why no accessories and only some unupdated accessories for the first mp3 player in you guys made? Why not have a standard dock and make all the accessories work with all of your mp3 players?

hi everyone!!
just to say that i've found an interesting discovery about the 8GB sandisk
go on to the following link:
http://www.sandisk.com/cesreg/sansa_promo.asp#
sandisk are doing a promo on their E200 prices. Click on 360 Demo (just above the E200's photo) and this will open a new window showing a 3D version of the E200 series.
Turn the MP3 player around so you can see the back, it says 8.0GB.
They're obviously working on it and leeking little bits of info, piece by piece to keep us hanging on :P
great site guys and i love the name : anything but ipod!!

aaron on July 9, 2006 10:25 AM

Kind of a weird tidbit to release on a page that seems otherwise intended to clear their stock of inferior players.

dec g on July 9, 2006 5:44 PM

yea, maybe they're making way for the 8GB player, and they need to move some lower capacity ones.....

Ipod WOrker on August 19, 2006 4:15 PM

Anyways, Ipod Nanno Is Currently Making Their 10 GB So Its Not Going To Be Good. I heard its going to be released on the December of 23, 2006. I also heard the prices of THE 10 GB NANO is going to be LOW PRICE

John on August 21, 2006 6:21 AM

Let's say this is true. 46MB to hold 2 songs are pretty large files. What format are they using? Apple's song files are about 3 to 6MB using MP3 or MP4 (AAC format).

Hmmmm.... They will need the extra 4GBs to almost make up the difference.

technot on August 21, 2006 4:46 PM

Wow John, you are really dense. iPod zelots will say anything...

Sidd on August 22, 2006 1:18 PM

Hey, you never know, maybe its "The Odyssey" By Symphony X...that bitch is about 25 mb and its .mp3 (it's a 20 something minute long song) So think before you critiize on stupid shit.

Sidd on August 22, 2006 1:22 PM

My mistake...its 34 MB

commander bob (bow to me) on October 3, 2006 4:54 PM

I'm guessing that they're "video songs"....

Mikko on November 17, 2006 8:40 AM

How about a waterproof housing/case that is being offered by Otter Products for the iPod line of players... Especially for those on the go and about in the outdoors...

alan on November 19, 2006 2:17 PM

The European model doesn't have FM radio. If I managed to buy one from outside Europe, with a radio, would it still be ok with accessories such as chargers and pc connections?

zipper on December 3, 2006 9:43 PM

this model is now on sale at Futureshop Canada for only $224.99
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10079592&catid=

that's a darn good deal if you ask me. ( $95 off the reg. price )

that's Canadian dollars also, so that's about $199 US funds or so

gman on December 8, 2006 3:03 PM

This is my first post ever. The name of this site says it all for those of you who have issues with ipods. I paid $249 at the Futureshop in Halifax on Dec. 6 which is still $70 off the regular price for the Sansa e280. Given the fact that you had to pay that much for the 2 gb version a year ago it's a pretty good deal. Like all tech gadgets prices drop and the technology constantly improves. I hope it lives up to my expectations as the Nano seems lacking in some areas. Keep up the dialogue as relevant shared information helps us all.

Saildier in Kuwait on February 25, 2007 7:10 AM

I just got mine yesterday. I paid $179 for the e280(8GB) including the 5pc travel kit (case, screen protector, cleaning cloth, leather sleeve, spring clip lanyard). ($193 shipped) This was from B&H photo on the internet. Was the best deal that I could find.

Kenneth Hamilton on April 20, 2007 12:15 AM

dan on May 4, 2007 1:50 AM

dan on May 4, 2007 1:54 AM

'Allo Mates! This morning (Friday, 6-15-07) I ordered (from Dell)
this little jewel (SANSA e280) along with the 2 GB card, the
Philips Foldable Noise-Cancelling Headphones, spare battery,
FM Transmitter Through FM radio and the 5-piece travel kit.
I got the 15% deduction (using the number on the front of my
Dell catalogue which recently arrived in the mail) and also I used
my $50 Dell Coupon (which Dell gave me because of all the
trouble I've had with my new Dell Inspiron B-130 Notebook).
Handling and shipping were free and the final price? $315.26
(and that includes the 8.25% sales tax which we Texicans
must pay). What do you think of that?

    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 has been gaining quite a following lately and rightfully so. If you are looking for something well designed, innovative, and feature packed; you should look into this full touch screen wonder. The Bluetooth feature set is what I find to be the most intriguing, with the ability to tether to your phone to make calls or wirelessly transfer with no restrictions to other P2s. Check out the review or stop by our ever growing P2 forums to get the latest info.

  • Toshiba Gigabeat T400
    toshiba gigabeat t400

The Gigabeat T400 is without a doubt my favorite flash player at the moment. It does have one major setback in that it only comes in a 4GB, shame on you Toshiba. What makes me love this player is it's ultra slick sexy design, very easy- just pick up and use interface, and killer sound quality that would make Cowon users envious. This player is a must buy for anyone who sports a premium set of headphones. Full review to come but you should really just buy one.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • JAYS q-JAYS
    JAYS q-JAYS

The q-JAYS are great in ear phones. They offer excellent clarity, silky treble, realistic midrange, and a nice bass response. They're comfortable, incredibly tiny, and come with a huge selection of accessories. While they certainly are analytic phones, they're still fun to listen to. The q-JAYS respond well to EQing, and can be tweaked to fit almost anyone's sound preference. Recommended for anyone owning a good sounding player and well encoded audio files. Check out our review.
