Samsung Z5F & New Z5 Firmware

samsung-z5f.jpg

Have you have been holding off on purchasing the Samsung Z5 because it was lacking features like: FM radio, voice recording, on-the-go playlists, UMS support and support for Asian languages? Well now you are in luck. The Z5F, a new version of the Z5, has hit the shelves with all of these features and more. Disappointingly, the Z5F has only been release in Korea at the moment and there is not mention of when it will be available to the rest of the world.

But the rest of the world will not go away empty handed. Our forum members have found out that they can update their Z5 to the latest US firmware (2.28) with the Z5F firmware found on Samsung’s site. This new firmware enables a UMS option, Asian languages as well as on-the-go playlists to name the major changes. Z5 owners have been asking these features since the beginning. Samsung is listening and Samsung is responding. Bravo.

They would have been left behind by the fact that Asia is a big market and the fact that the iPod (and probably other) MP3 players already supported the double byte characters, UMS, and on the go playlists.

Isn't competition grand?

Samsung Finland released the specs of YP-Z5F on their site a while ago. I contacted them, and they told me that the player is already out and that I should ask the retailers about it. I did some searching, and it seems that European web store Pixmania should get the player by 16th of June.

So basically, Europeans should be able to play with the player pretty soon.

Um. I'm a tad confused by something, maybe someone can clear this up for me. The Z5 is a flash player correct? And the Z5F as well. So how come at this promotion site www.blackseduction.sg it says that the Z5F is a HDD player....

Thanks much.

FYI the upgrade instructions which are supplied on samsungs website are wrong because the z5 doesn't actually show up as a removable disk drive. Follow the firmware upgrade instructions that came with your user manual and you'll be able to upgrade.

I was able to see the new UMS option, a browse files option (which is how I wish the player actually read music in the first place), but was unable to see a on-the-go playlist option. Anyone know how to get that working?

when you are browsing the song title just press the center button on the touch pad until the title of the song blinks, it will automatically be copied on the playlist folder. enjoy..

in need of help....
try to reset the settings via the player no need to reset it by punching in the hole it's only for reboot purposes so to speak. or you can attach it to your pc via usb and delete all your files.

Will the Samsung YP-Z5F come out soon in the United States because I've been waiting for a long time to get it. If you have any info please tell.

Annie on April 29, 2007 1:12 AM

Samsung YP-Z5F is simply amazing!

39+5 hours (If firmware is upgraded) 44 hours of battery life and cheaper than iPod nano with better brand.

I'm changing my Z5 with Z5F

Can someone please help with album art viewable on the player - the YP-Z5 uses Windows Media Player 10 by using sync option, mp3's transferred to player along with the album art, so long as you see the art in WMP10 in the first place.

Also have YP-Z5F which ships with Samsung Media Centre. Unable to get album art to show up on the player. Then tried again by synching with player using WMP10 to tranfer mp3s and still no luck.

  • Samsung P2
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 has been gaining quite a following lately and rightfully so. If you are looking for something well designed, innovative, and feature packed; you should look into this full touch screen wonder. The Bluetooth feature set is what I find to be the most intriguing, with the ability to tether to your phone to make calls or wirelessly transfer with no restrictions to other P2s. Check out the review or stop by our ever growing P2 forums to get the latest info.

  • Toshiba Gigabeat T400
    toshiba gigabeat t400

The Gigabeat T400 is without a doubt my favorite flash player at the moment. It does have one major setback in that it only comes in a 4GB, shame on you Toshiba. What makes me love this player is it's ultra slick sexy design, very easy- just pick up and use interface, and killer sound quality that would make Cowon users envious. This player is a must buy for anyone who sports a premium set of headphones. Full review to come but you should really just buy one.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • JAYS q-JAYS
    JAYS q-JAYS

The q-JAYS are great in ear phones. They offer excellent clarity, silky treble, realistic midrange, and a nice bass response. They're comfortable, incredibly tiny, and come with a huge selection of accessories. While they certainly are analytic phones, they're still fun to listen to. The q-JAYS respond well to EQing, and can be tweaked to fit almost anyone's sound preference. Recommended for anyone owning a good sounding player and well encoded audio files. Check out our review.
