Creative Zen V & Zen V Plus

creative-zen-v-plus.jpg

Creative will enter the high capacity flash market with the other players like the Z5, e200, nano, & clix. Like the others, the Zen V (Plus) will come in 1GB, 2GB & 4GB sizes. It sports a 1.5” 128 x 128 OLED screen and measures 2.7" x 1.7" x 0.6"- smaller than the Zen Micro. Creative will be releasing two different models the V and the V Plus. The Plus will add FM radio and video. Both of them will feature all the features familiar to the Zen line and will add line-in recording.

Creative once again complicates their Zen product line. They have a great brand but they are slowly destroying it by spreading it too thin. Regardless, it will probably turn out to be a pretty good MP3 player. Available next month.

Enzo, why the hell do you hate Creative ZEN so much? The Zen line has a lot of models in it, though half of them arent even being sold in Australia, not sure about other countries, and as far as I know, all they have in the store is the basic ZEN jukebox, which...sucks, and the ZV:M, which absolutley rules. This is an awsome little unit, and in my opinion, deserves more credit than what you gave it.

EnzoTen on June 21, 2006 12:17 AM

I dont hate Creative Zen players, most of the time i can be seen carrying a Vision:M. From a business and marketing perspective they are watering down thier brand and causing customer confustion by all of these off shoots of thier Zen and not to mention MuVo line of products.

Mikael on June 21, 2006 1:16 AM

I personally love the idea of this player, high capasity flash with drag and drop and a colour screen. if only it where about 30gigs, lol, i guess i just want a ZV:M lol

Enzo if you haven't been noticing they've been getting rid of a lot of their older players. Listen to their last conference call and they specifically say they are streamlining their products.

Atrax on June 21, 2006 2:36 AM

Also, they seem to be selling off alot of their older players(backing up Michaels comment), in Singapore, or taiwon, or however you spell it, they had a sale and they're selling some of their players for $1, $1!!!!!

So yes, I think they're getting rod of alot of their older models, and will eventually get rid of them, and bring in newer models, like the ones we'v seen in the muvo range, and now the ZEN range, with the 'Visions'.

I think this is a welcome new product from Creative.

roger767 on June 21, 2006 4:11 AM

Is it me or is battery life getting shorter and shorter with all these new players. Since when is it the trend to implement video in a flash player with a 1.5 inch screen. They really need to stop that, just like they need to stop putting a 2 megapixel camera in a cellphone.
I'm not gonna convert all my Divx/Xvid movies to an even smaller size, Ill just buy a PVP if i want to watch movies.
We need players with longer battery life, its also better for the long run cuz the more you need to recharge the sooner the Battery will die out, the more it will loose its umf. Yes umf

sloppy on June 21, 2006 8:49 AM

I don't think they'd start to spread themselves too thing after reporting major losses in the last financial year

CNET's Review. They say it got more than 20 hrs of battery life in testing.

Michael2k on June 21, 2006 12:21 PM

Creative makes great products; the Zen Micro, Zen Vision:M, and now the Zen V. Their only problem is that they are several months behind Apple (where it counts) and is always seen as a "me too" instead of a "me first" brand.

maaaaaan, it looks so cute!

only if there's a white and orange version for 4gb

then it's a 50% sure buy for me (to complement my w800i)

the other 50% depends on its audio playback

miyuko on June 22, 2006 2:15 PM

Actually I expect Creative to come up a MP3 with built-in Bluetooth so tat User can use for wireless earphone and wireless transfer of songs/clips/photos from friends & PC(jus like the bluetooth function on hp).

With tis BT premium, I believe consumer don mind pay a bit more cos currently MAYBE none of the manufacturers produce tis type of MP3 player yet.

atrax on June 23, 2006 6:14 AM

they'l get onto that soon enough

scarpad on June 23, 2006 3:55 PM

Geez did Apple Dillute the Ipod 5G when they brought out the Nano?
How did Creative Dillute their Hard Drive players by adding a Flash player?

Michael2k on June 23, 2006 7:33 PM

scarpad:
http://creative.com/products/welcome.asp?category=213

Which Flash player? I count two Zens and 14 MuVos.

So yes, the release of another two Flash player dilutes the branding of the 14 other Flash players advertised on their website, and the release of a two new Zens dilutes the branding of the existing 14 Zen players advertised on their website.

Does anyone know if this player has an option for the backlight on the screen to run continuously? I teach group exercize and need to see the elapsed time of the songs through the course of a program. Only the iPod seems to have this option. Help me avoid this alternative.

Thanx!

Help!!! Are there any MP3 players that have a built in fm transmitter? If no, why not?

Lee on July 22, 2006 12:17 AM

seems like a good player. Price range is really attractive too.

However, the overall look does seem a littel bit too curved. Other than that, for a little as $120, there are 1gb, nice sound quality, video playback, and decent battery life. It's really a bargain.

KO1 on October 20, 2006 8:15 AM

I guess they wouldn't be including the bluetooth function in mp3s.. or at least until they got all the copyright problems sorted out 1st.

even the unreleased microsoft mp3 player allows only a sample of the song to be shared via bluetooth. and imagine the battery life if bluetooth were to be "always on'..

Meeeee on October 31, 2006 9:03 AM

eliza on December 17, 2006 3:55 AM

My zen has frozen, does anyone know why this has happened and what i can do to unfreeze it?!
HELP!

Mira on January 8, 2007 9:57 AM

Two things:
1) the Zen VPlus does have an FM transmitter, I have the 4 GB version.
2) Mine froze as well and I have contacted customer support to see if they have any answers.

Coby on February 20, 2007 6:06 AM

I bought 2 Creative Zen V players (White 1GB)... one month apart (one for me, and I liked it so much I bought one for my wife)... Then mine died! After having to use a paperclip several times, it finally quit rebooting at all.
..
Then... exactly one month after the first one died... the second one died... all of a sudden the screen had several red lines on the screen - then went blank, and unable to turn on at all.

I have an RMA from Creative... but what good will that do me? I'll get the same cheap product back when they're done!

To be fair... when it worked it was good enough for me to buy the second one... my complaint really is that just feels like it's cheap.

fernanda on March 17, 2007 11:55 AM

This is the best mp3 player I used. My sister has Ipod, my brother Sandisk but this is much better. It has all the features I need. Line in encoding (you can record music directly from your computer without even download or pay for tracks) just go to any web site and you're ready to record. The sound quality is great. It has FM radio which is perfect (Ipod doesn't). Voice recording(I don't use it much but it's ok) and more.... The scratch -resistant screen is much much better than Ipod's which is so sensitive that you're afraid to touch it. In conclusion, I love it, it's smaller than Ipod, has more features and it's so much cheaper.

My screen has frozen. My Zen V Plus is brand new and I can't switch it off! Any advice

tom on April 2, 2007 1:46 AM

graeme on April 4, 2007 6:48 AM

I bought the Zen V plus and thought it was a great little mp3 player,a day had'nt even gone by and it died on me,now im reading on different forums that its quite common with Zen V plus,ok maybe i should have done a little research before buying but i was flying to the states two days before hand and thought it would be nice to have a mp3 player instead of listening to a plane engine for 8 hours, now i wish i never bothered, this thing cost me alot of money and never even lasted 24 hours, take my advice guys stay well clear of it,its a rip off.

VANESSA on July 16, 2007 8:37 PM

I GOT A ZEN FOR CHRISTMAS LAST YEAR AND IT WORKED FINE UNTIL
MY SCREEN WOULDNT WORK SOMEHOW AND THE MUSIC STILL PLAYED. AND I CAN'T CHANGE THE VOLUME HOWEVER I WANT ANYMORE.

HOW DO I FIX THIS??????

Tony on July 23, 2007 1:16 AM

on the left side of the player, below the power slide, there is a small pin hole that houses the reset switch. Use something like a mechanical pencil to push in the button. It is about a quarter of an inch in the hole so don't push hard.

Shorty0007 on August 3, 2007 12:25 AM

I've had my Zen VPlus for about 2 monts and its working great. It has all the features that one might want. I just wish all the colors came in all the memory models.

Moe on May 10, 2009 10:45 AM

I can't seem to get my Zen VPlus to shut off. Even when I can't hear the music and think it's off it is still on and draining the battery. Any suggestions?

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
