Creative Zen Vision:M DLO Cases

dlo-vision-m-cases-main.jpg

According to epiZENter DLO has just released two new cases for the Zen Vision:M, the Action Jacket and the Jam Jacket. The Jam Jacket is a silicon sleeve that will protect your scratch magnet from everyday wear and tear in your choice of 5 different colors. For the action oriented the rightly named Action Jacket is a slick neoprene sleeve with an arm band that is great for the gym.

I don’t normally hype up cases, but I have an Action Jacket for the Zen Micro and I really like it. They sell for a fair price of $20 and $30 respectively and are readily available at your local B&M electronic stores.

So, I'm wondering, which would be better to have in order to keep it from getting scratched?? the Jam Jacket (silicon) or the Action Jacket????

I'll primarily be using my Vision:M for working out, and i want to protect it from shock and scratches.

Gilbert on May 9, 2006 12:05 PM

I don't know what to do with mine... It's already full of scraches...

Can i change the screen or something...?

EnzoTen on May 9, 2006 10:51 PM

@Gilbert

User the same stuff they use to take scratches out of the ipod. It will work because they are made of the same plastic. It does take some time and patience to buff them all out.

Omar on May 15, 2006 12:19 AM

nonofyobiz: It looks like either of them would protect the player well, but not the screen. At any rate, I wouldn't suggest using the ZVM at the gym, as it may damage your hard drive. If you need a digital audio player that you can use while working out, you're going to need something with flash based memory. If you're interested in one, I suggest the Creative Zen Nano or Sandisk Sansa 512MB. They are both available for about 50 bucks. I bought them for my sister and brother in law, respectively.

Banig on May 18, 2006 3:25 AM

they look cool esp the Action Jacket. i'm currently using a leather folio type from Creative and probably replace it with this one once i get tired of it.

Rintintin on May 23, 2006 1:08 AM

If you have scratches on your Creative Vision M 30GB or the face of some other MP3 player simply apply some common brass polish (e.g. Brasso) with a paper towel using circular motions, and after about 20-30 second wipe it off with a dry towel and you'll find that 95% of your scratches will have disappeared... I do it about once a month just to keep the screen looking nice and clear. Brasso is an old trick for polishing the face of a cheap Timex watch as well.

I just got a Jam Jacket from dlo's website, got to me in a week in new zealand which was surprising, especially that postage was zero. It is great, works very well I must say. Something i'd like to add: The zen touch case fits the ZVM perfectly. Found this when I was comparing my ZVM to my old Zen Touch. I even have the jam jacket on it and it still fits in the case. Yay for added protection.

craig on June 30, 2006 1:48 AM

i bought the action jacket and ill say its very nice but the plasic screen protector clings to the screen making a buble effect can i get rid of this????

Raiders757 on July 5, 2006 11:18 PM

I have an action jacket as well. I don't seem to have much trouble with the screen protector sticking. It's only done it a couple of times in small spots, and all I did was pull up slightly by the touch pad to free it.

The case is a little tight, and doesn't expose the entire touch pad, with the very bottom of it getting slightly covered. Also, the headphone jack doesn't line up all that well either. It takes a bit of stetching to get to break the jacket to break in. Still, it's nice to have smething covering my investment, and the problems mentioned are very slight in nature.

I do find $30 to be it bit much for such an item though. $10 would be much more fair of a price, but as with all MP3 player accessories, one can expect to get gouged. Sad in my opinion, but that's just the way it is.

Oh yea, do not stick this case inside the bag that comes with the Vision M. The material will rub off on the jacket, and even after a week, I havn't been able t get it all off. I got a tan bag, with an odd material. Not sure if that was what everyone else got.

Alexis on July 12, 2006 4:35 PM

You can find more accessories @ amazon.com and day deal.com they have loads of accessories

kranium256 on July 16, 2006 3:46 AM

ya i got myself a dlo action jacket too .. really does a good job of protecting ur investment! anyways .. ive had a problem of not being able to fit it properly .. when i put it tightly the buttons get pressed (esp the back button) and when u keep it loose enough .. i feel its too flimsy and the zvm would fall out! has anyone else had this "problem" ?

o n it does hide the cool blue button lights .. damnit!

Raiders757 on July 18, 2006 5:02 PM

Kranium, I have noticed after a couple of weeks use, that my jacket is starting to stretch and fit my player better. It's still not lining up perfect with my headphone jack, but the opening for the touch pad now lines up perfect.

The one drawback I am having, is the case scratched my player from pulling it so tight, when it didn't fit well in the begining. The clear plastic for the viewing window runs around the hole for the touch pad, and it rubs on the player a little. I think it is still making a few marks now, even though I am not having to pull the thing so tight anymore.

Raiders757 on July 23, 2006 10:52 AM

Alright, I'm back.

After a while of having this product(Action Jacket), I can say I am no longer happy with it. It has begun to scratch my player up beyond belief. It even gashed it pretty good in one spot. Thank God it wasn't on the screen, but I have decided to take the thing off for good. I would have done less damage to my ZVM, if I had left it off to begine with.

When I took it off yesterday, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I mean damn, my player is only a month old, and looks older than my Zen Micro, which I have had for over a year now. I havn't even taken the thing outside. It's only been used in my stereos, and hasn't suffered any abuse at all. I am not pleased at all with this porduct anymore. That's $30 down the tuves.

If your going to use this thing, I would recomend only leaving it on when you have to. Really, I would find something else. I will be e-mailing the people that made this, and give them a peace of my mind. I am rather miffed. THis product seemed prety good at first, but now I feel it is a rip-off.

Kate on July 31, 2006 12:13 AM

Raiders757, I'm going through the exact same thing.

I've had the thing on for a couple of weeks and was really happy until I took it off tonight to clean some dust from under the plastic. My zen is so scratched. The plastic from the screen protector has left a big parabola shaped scratch on the plastic bit of my zen.

Luckily I left the original screen protector on, so my screen is undamaged, but the plastic is wrecked. I'm going to order some applesauce and see if that works and then I'll probably get a BSE and maybe try some sort of silicone skin.

lenin on August 2, 2006 7:54 PM

Raiders757 and Kate, thank you i thought i was the only one that case is worthless dont even buy it, i saw the original leather case for the same price(30$) at circut city

one question for kate though where do you get this applesauce thing

Mike on August 13, 2006 7:09 AM

What's a BSE?

Ron on August 28, 2006 12:26 AM

What about the Jam Jacket? Anyone have any problems or praises for it? I wasn't even considering the action jacket at first but was curious as to how the Jam Jacket performs...

kathy on September 10, 2006 1:09 PM

DO NOT PURCHASE THE ACTION SKIN! Three weeks old it has damaged my brand new player beyond belief. It was recomended to me by a guy at Best Buy and well I am very upset because Best Buy won't help me work with the DLO to have something done about my player.

Has anyone contacted DLO about the situation and been sucessful in getting a resolution?

Chris on September 10, 2006 4:57 PM

The Action Jacket seemed cool at first, but I have some complaints. For one, the thing is rather tight (which could be a good thing) and presses multiple buttons just by having it velcroed on. I have to keep the velcro very loose just to get the buttons to work properly. It also tends to flare up around the navigation button and lets dirt in to scratch the player. I have not taken it of my player in a while, but I am afraid there may be some scratching. The screen itself seems to be fine, but be damn sure you clean the inside of the screen protector before sliding this baby on.

On a positive note, I never thought I would use the included arm band, but it works very well. As far as the headphone jack, it plugs in just fine, even if the jacket moves around a little.

Basically, I think this product needs a few revisions before it can be considered THE best protection for your Zen. I would try the leather Creative one, but have you seen the package? There is no way to even tell what it looks like on the player without opening it. All you see is the front. And their website has a single picture too....of the front black cover...thanks Creative.

Andrew on October 14, 2006 5:33 PM

Buyer Beware: This case is worthless. You have to handle your player crudely to even get it inside of the case. It isn't a snug fit, it's a death-grip on the player and will not release it if you want to remove it. The case covers up everything (minus the touch-pad), which makes it very difficult to perform even the most simple task (such as turning the player on).

If everything I've said thus far hasn't turned you away from this product, the following will:

- High priced ($30 + tax)
- Cheap materials
+ Foam-like exterior seems to tear (yes, I said tear) easily
+ Screen protector is made of worthless plastic that is very rigid and hard causing your screen to accumulate scratches.

One more thing I'd like to add.. I only used this case for thirty minutes (if that). I put my player in, had a terrible time doing so due to the tight fit, and then I removed it promptly because I couldn't even turn the thing on with this case covering it.. Upon removal I noticed the right side of my player had been coated with a sticky-film residue which I soon realized came from glue used on the inside of the case to attach the plastic video screen protector with the rest of the case.

That's how cheap this case is.. You can physically see traces of glue on the inside of the case.

I suggest you save your $250+ dollar investment, and spend less or the same amount for a player that isn't detrimental to your valuable items.

Good job DLO on making a case that protects your player from everything but the case that many consumers will (unfortunately) trust to be a quality product.

Somu on October 20, 2006 6:00 AM

I wish I'd seen this before buying mine. The DLO case is absolutely worthless -
- the controls don't work properly with it on. I have a tough time even switching my Zen on with the darn case on.
- I've only had it for a couple of days, and already it's scratched my Zen in various places. Luckily, I still have my orig. screen protector on, so the screen is OK.

Raiders757 (or whoever else), have you had much luck getting in touch with DLO?

drjerque on October 24, 2006 4:22 PM

Complete agreement. I am very disappointed with the DLO 'action jacket'. Not only does it keep some buttons completely pressed once you forcibly cram the player in it, but it also smeared my new player with some kind of adhesive when I reverse-crammed it out. Some young genius at best buy told me it was the perfect item for protecting the player. Yikes.

Jaye on November 2, 2006 2:04 AM

SAME PROBLEM HERE!!! I've had my player in it for MONTHS and just a few days ago took it out to look at the player and I find it HORRIBLY damaged! I'm going to be contacting DLO to find out what to do about this. This is outrageous. People buy this thing to PROTECT their mp3 player, but instead it ruins it! Has anyone had any success with the Applesauce or anything?

Jom from Sweden on November 8, 2006 5:58 PM

Why is this article still here!?? Remove it NOW! And you recommend the action jacket.. what a joke. I was never going to buy this crap but I tought it was a good article and the action jacket seems good.. you almost convince me. I am glad that I saw the comments. I ussually read the comments for fun but this time it really saved me from any product from the web. Thatnk you guys. I have a Silicon Case from creative and it works fine! minimum of scratches or nothing at all. I will buy protection from http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet/StoreFront for sure. The protections are made for helicopter rotes! So you can be damn sure that it will protect your player from scratches. However its not scratch proof. but close.

skitch on December 7, 2006 4:59 PM

Thank God you guy's and Gal's take the time to write in about this stuff. I will not buy this product!

Anthony on December 10, 2006 7:28 PM

Ya, the Action Jacket really does blow. I mean, it wraps around the player so tight that all the buttons end up being pushed in, which totally sucks.

Functionality = 0

ang on December 11, 2006 10:36 PM

well if this isn't a good case, what sort of cases do you guys recommend?

fez on December 24, 2006 7:50 PM

i found this shocktronic case 4 ZVM...any1 tried that? pretty confused after gettin 2 kno abt da dlo action crap...

J on December 25, 2006 3:58 PM

The Action Jacket is nice , my only gripe is its hard to turn the unit off with it on and sometimes the buttons are a PIA to use.

c-char on January 2, 2007 11:42 AM

I received my ZVM for Christmas a few days ago. I wanted to protect it and purchased the DLO Action Jacket here on sale at Best Buy in Canada. It is one of the worst purchases I ever made. It was so tight that I could not turn the ZVM on, as the other front buttons were being squeezed so tightly. I removed and re-inserted the ZVM about 8 times thinking I was doing something wrong. To make matters worse, I too found that it gummed up the left side next to the screen - exactly as an earlier reviewer had said. I am taking it back and want to get the Jam Jacket- currently on sale for $15 at Best Buy in Canada.
I am hoping I have better luck with that one. Anyone have any recent experience with it?
I only wish I had read this forum before buying the Action Jacket- what a LOUSY product.

Markus on February 21, 2007 11:38 AM

I jus took the Jam Jacket off to find the same issue as many others: tons of deep ass scratches. I am a bit peeved seeing as I paid almost $40 for it, what a rip!

I'm writing to them now to tell them my displeasure.

Best solution: use nothing on it and just take care of it since it's worth the same as a digicam.

Paul on February 24, 2007 1:21 AM

Wow, this thing is awful, DO NOT BUY. If it helps anyone, a dab of Goo Gone on a paper towel will take that crappy glue off no problem.

R.J. on March 25, 2007 10:04 PM

Hey i was wondering what is the best case to get for the ZVM. I need it to have an armband though, and i would like it to protect the screen also.
thanks for your help.

FSSAAOA on May 5, 2007 11:54 AM

what if you just cut out the window on the dlo case? And leave thye screen protector on? I have a zvm, for almost a year. Never had protection. Droped it 3 months ago, the screen cracked... but it still worked. Good thing i had it on Alpabetical order. Then my sister borrowed it without asking me, and nexxt time i used it it didn't even turn on. Now it only works when i plug it in. Is there a special type of case i can use to prevent it from cracking the screen? I'm gonna buy i new one but i wanna be prepared. Getting insurance to...

SandieK on May 13, 2007 9:10 PM

Hmm, to each there own I suppose. I got the Action Jacket shortly after getting my Vision M. After some initial problems with case allignment, everything settled just fine.
Read all the evil comments about Zens getting scratched badly while in the case, so I went through the trouble of checking on mine.
Aside from a little bit of dust that snuck through the touchpad opening, there was a few marks along the touchpad itself, mostly i suppose from being velcro'd and un velcro's so many times for charging, music/vid transfer, etc. These are easily buffed out.
Other than that, Ive had no problems.

AaronC on May 18, 2007 11:41 PM

OMG, I just got a new ZVM, and immediately noticed the tightness of the action jacket. I returned it the very next day because I CANT work my player with it on, since all the buttons get pressed. I am happy it wasn't on long enough to scratch up my player. This thing is an engineering nightmare that shows signs of having gone through NO quality assurance.

BTW, don't buy the leather case either, it pushes all the bottom buttons down.

I WILL NEVER BUY FROM DLO AGAIN. I AM ALSO GOING TO TELL CIRCUIT CITY AND BEST BUY TO STOP CARRYING THESE CASES.

mahmud on May 21, 2007 5:38 PM

look just go to nfl.com and buy a jersey then use the jersey to polish it off

Aeropolice on August 17, 2007 1:23 AM

hey i just want to know...if this cool jacket suitable for the 60gb old edition model. Where else can i get it?

heltosp on January 2, 2008 1:09 PM

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me!

I was a little skeptical after reading some of the comments and bought the action jacket anyway.

After 5 minutes of having it on and realizing I needed to charge the ZVM, I took it out. I'm returning the DLO Action Jacket right now.

IF YOU'RE EVEN THINKING ABOUT BUYING THE ACTION JACKET, DON'T! IT HAS SCRATCHED UP MY ZVM BEYOND BELIEF!!
